Chapter 28
Autumn POV
I awoke to the loud banging on the door. My eyes fluttered open and I was suddenly surrounded by darkness. It took me a while to realize that I had forgotten to turn on the lights before I had gone to sleep this afternoon. I carefully swung my legs over my bed and stood. The trip to the nearest lamp switch took longer than necessary since I accidentally bumped my toe with the cupboard on the way.
Once I turned on the lights and was finally able to see my surroundings, I moved to the front door. “Who is it?”
“It is me, you idiot!” I heard Jess yell from the other side of the door. “Open the damn door! I have been here for over an hour!”
I quickly unlocked the door and swung it open. “What are you--huff!” Jess jumped on me the second she saw me, putting her arms around me as she suffocated me with her super tight hug.

Autumn POV“Okay, I guess this will have to do.” I stared at the small luggage beside my right thigh. I gave the surroundings one last look as I mentally tried to remember if I accidentally had forgotten about something. Once I was sure that I had turned off the gas and locked the windows and sliding glass door to the balcony, I turned off the lamp and headed for the door.I swung the door open and plowed head-first into a broad chest covered in a white shirt and black coat. I lifted my gaze up until my eyes met his grey eyes and I suddenly remembered that first night when he’d caught me lying about where I lived. That night I ran to him the same way I did tonight, nearly knocking him off with my head (although, who was I kidding, he was pretty well-built, if anything, I would be the one who fell to the ground).

Autumn POVI had no clue how long I had slept, but by the time my eyelids fluttered open, I noticed that in my sleep I had accidentally put my head on his left shoulder. Carefully I lifted my head and turned to see him, still sleeping with his lips slightly parted.Even with his eyes closed, there was a frown on his forehead, almost as if he was pondering about something while he was sleeping. Autumn POV “Seriously, Autumn. I don’t know how you could simply throw away those two years for a guy you just met!”At Steven’s last sentence, I snapped. “Do you think I wanted it to end? I was not the one lying, I was not the one making shit up when in reality, I was actually meeting my ex.” I let out a long exasperated sigh and grabbed a glass of champagne off the tray, ignoring the startled waiter.I knew I had told myself that I would stay away from alcohol and that alcohol did not mend a broken heart yet right now, I felt that alcohol would be the only thing that would calm me down. Maybe I would become an alcoholic. I cursed under my breath as I swallowed the bubbly drink, letting the coolness soothe my troubled mind like iron on a disheveled laundry.
