Mama Bear

Sunlight gleamed in through the windowpanes, warming up his face and rousing him up from his heavy slumber. It was hard to open his eyes and his body felt like it had just survived a car crash. He turned his head left and right, trying to process the situation he was in.

"You're awake..." He squinted down at the fatigued feminine voice.

"Alexa?" He blinked off the sleep from his eyes. His vision was blurry because of the heavy dosage of anesthetics.

Slender fingers knitted through his tousled hair. A calming sensation settles in his head.

"God, I thought I lost there." Her voice broke. Was she crying? She pressed her forehead against his. "I'm sorry this happened to you." She sobbed.

With all the strength left in his depleted body, he drew her against him, rubbing a hand up and down her back. "You have nothing to apologize for, love." He kissed her cheek, tasting her salty tears.

She moved away, a frown lining her forehead. "Are you okay? Should I call the doctor?" She asked,
