I ended up dropping a long note for Alice. I felt bad for lying to her about Shawn in the note but I had to.

I told her Shawn and I were trying to build a commitment and he wanted me around for the week. A lie. I added that I resorted to using a note to convey the message to her because I couldn't bear to break the news to her that she’d have to be alone for a couple of days. That much, was at least genuine.

I made a mental note to call her as soon as I got to the site and settled down. If at all I didn't criticize myself, I knew too well that I was a coward when it came to grappling with emotions.

I preferred to use notes or texts to communicate highly emotional issues rather than address them physically. When I call Alice later, I would at least, confess that to her. Hopefully, she understands. Well, Alice always did understand.
