Terrible Decision

last update publish date: 2026-09-09 11:21:17

For once, the newspaper on my desk had absolutely nothing to do with a Belcourt. I had considered framing it. THE WOMAN HE CHOSE EXTENDS SOLD-OUT RUN AT THE AINSLEY. Four additional weeks. The announcement had gone live that morning, and by six o'clock, Marcus informed me that the first extended Saturday performance was already over fifty percent sold. I read the headline again, then once more, just because I could.

"You know you wrote the press release," Marcus said from the doorway.

  • Revenge Dating My Ex's Brother   Making Up

By Monday morning, I had decided two things. First, I was not going to let Paul Belcourt occupy another entire day of my life. Second, I was still annoyed with August.Unfortunately, the second decision was proving harder to maintain than the first. August had texted me Sunday evening to ask whether I'd eaten dinner. I'd replied that I had. He'd told me to sleep well. Perfectly pleasant, but also a little awkward.I put my phone away and walked into Ainsley, where Marcus was waiting with two coffees and the expression of a man who knew things."Don't," I said."I haven't said anything.""Your eyebrows have."He handed me a coffee. "How was Sunday?""August came over. We argued.""About Paul?""About August explaining Paul."Marcus winced. "Ah. The Belcourt family hobby."I laughed despite myself."Are you two okay?""Yes. We're just annoyed with each other.""Good. Because I refuse to referee a dispute between you and a man who could buy the building we're standing in.""He wouldn't."

  • Revenge Dating My Ex's Brother   Taking Sides

Sunday morning, I woke up alone in my own bed.I lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling.Yesterday morning, I'd woken up beside August. We'd made breakfast, eaten on his balcony, and spent an entire afternoon doing absolutely nothing.Last night, his brother had called me a whore in my own theater.Quite the fucking weekend. My phone was on the nightstand. August had texted after I got home.August: Glad you're home. Try to get some sleep.Me: You too.August: Good night, Melody.I'd wanted to call him. I'd also been too angry to talk about Paul for another second. Both things were still true.I was making coffee when Marcus called.“Morning,” I answered.“Before you ask, yes, I slept. No, I haven't murdered anyone.”“Good. I'd hate to have to recast you.”“Your concern is touching.”“What did you find?”“A recording.”I stopped pouring coffee.“Of last night?”“Part of it. One of the crew started recording when Paul raised his voice. She was worried he might get physical.”“D

  • Revenge Dating My Ex's Brother   Sleeping With Brothers

By six o'clock, I was at Ainsley, dressed, caffeinated, and pretending I hadn't spent most of the afternoon naked in August Belcourt's apartment.Marcus took one look at me and narrowed his eyes."What?""Someone got laid," he said jokingly."I had a nice Saturday.""Clearly."I pointed at him. "Don't."I left before he could get worse. The Saturday night crowd was nearly sold out. By seven thirty, the lobby was buzzing, the house manager was checking tickets, and I was backstage reviewing my notes. Everything was normal. Until Marcus appeared in the dressing room doorway."Mel."Something in his voice made me look up."What?""Paul's here."My stomach sank. "Here where?""In the audience.""Of course he is.""He bought a regular ticket. Orchestra, row H."Not the box. Not a conspicuous seat reserved for a Belcourt. Just another paying customer."Has he said anything?""No. But he looks like someone pissed in his champagne."I closed my script. "Fine. He paid for a ticket. He can watc

He led me into the bathroom without letting go of my hand. The space was all pale stone and glass, the shower itself a wide, open expanse with dual rainfall heads and a built-in bench along one wall. August turned the water on, testing the temperature with his free hand until steam began to rise.I reached for the hem of the shirt I’d borrowed. He stopped me.“Let me.”He peeled it upward slowly, palms skimming my sides as the fabric lifted. The air was already warm; the shirt dropped to the floor. I stood bare in front of him while he looked at me the way he had the night before. He looked hungry, focused, unhurried. Then he hooked his thumbs in the waistband of his sweatpants and pushed them down. He was already hard. The sight of him sent a fresh pulse of heat low in my belly. We stepped under the water together. It was perfect. Hot enough to loosen every muscle, soft enough that it felt like being wrapped in warmth. August’s hands found my waist first, then slid up my back, drawin

I woke up to sunlight on my face and the unfamiliar sensation of having absolutely nowhere I needed to be. For a moment, I kept my eyes closed, enjoying it. Then I remembered where I was.August's bed. August's apartment. August.I rolled over. He was asleep beside me, one arm resting above his head, dark hair falling across his forehead. I'd seen him asleep in Paris, but back then I'd been trying to work out whether waking up in his arms was something we should discuss or pretend hadn't happened. This morning, I could simply look at him.I brushed a strand of hair away from his forehead. His eyes opened."Good morning," he murmured."Is it?"He looked at me. "Are you complaining?""I'm conducting a performance review.""And?""I may need additional time to reach a conclusion.""How much time?""You cleared your schedule, didn't you?"He smiled and pulled me closer."I did.""Excellent planning, Mr. Belcourt.""I thought so."We stayed like that for a while, talking about nothing in p

I found Marcus in the prop closet attempting to convince a junior stagehand that the missing hat was not, in fact, a crisis of national proportions.“I’m leaving,” I said.He looked up. “With August?”“Yes.”“Have fun. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”“That leaves almost nothing.”“Exactly.” He grinned. “Text me if you’re not coming in tomorrow.”“I’m coming in tomorrow.”“Sure you are.”I collected my bag from the dressing room, checked that my phone and keys were inside, and walked back to the lobby.August was waiting exactly where I’d left him, hands in his pockets, looking entirely too composed for a man who had spent the last two hours watching me perform and the night before making me forget how to form a coherent sentence on my own couch. The second our eyes met, his composure cracked just enough for me to see the anticipation underneath.“Ready?” he asked.“Yes.”He held out his hand, and I took it.We stepped into the cool night air. His car was waiting at the curb, and he
