AMELIA'S POV

I watched Ethan stride toward the bathroom, his broad shoulders tense under his tuxedo, and made a mental note to find him as soon as my dance with Lucas ended.

The ache in my chest from our earlier encounter still lingered, his cold words, the way he’d fought for a dance he hadn’t even asked for, only to spite Julian.

I needed to understand what drove him, why he seemed to care one moment and push me away the next. When the dance finished, I slipped away, my heels clicking softly on the polished floor as I headed to the men’s room.

He wasn’t there. My eyes had been fixed in that direction, so I hadn’t seen him leave. Confusion gnawed at me as I wandered down the hallway, my heart pounding with a mix of hope and dread.

Then I saw a door marked ‘staff only,’ slightly ajar.

Maybe he was there, seeking a moment of solitude like I often did.

I pushed it open, and my world collapsed.

I stood frozen, staring at Ethan and the lady locked in a passionate embrace.
