AMELIA’S POV

I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my chest when I heard his name, Julian Pierce.

So, Ethan was wrong. Julian was exactly the kind of man I would like, he's definitely my type of man, if my heart didn’t already belong to someone else.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Harper,” Julian said, his voice smooth, a soft smile curling his lips.

His dark hazel eyes seemed to trace every detail of my face, as if he were memorizing me.

“Or may I call you Amelia?” I tilted my head, keeping my tone polite but firm. “I’m sorry, Mr. Pierce, but we’re just getting acquainted. Only my friends call me by my first name.

“I understand,” he said, his voice warm.

“Though I do hope I’ll earn a spot in the friend zone soon.”

“Time will tell, Mr. Pierce,” I replied, offering a small smile of my own.

His hand was still stretched out so I hesitated, then placed my hand in his.

Before I could react, he turned it gently and pressed a soft kiss to my knuckles.

I pulled my hand back quickly, heat creeping up my neck, why did he do that. What if someone saw us? Or better still Ethan? I wouldn't want to cause more pain Ethan.

“Alright, Julian. Nice meeting you.” A chord of music floated through the air, and Julian’s smile widened.

“May I have the honor of your first dance tonight? Mrs Harper”

I shook my head, my mind already elsewhere.

I didn't know whether to say No or look for an excuse.

“Actually, I’m looking for someone, so I’ll have to go now.”

“Second to the last, then?” he pressed, his tone light.

“Surely you’ll be done with whoever you’re searching for by then.”

“I’ll look forward to it,” I said, managing a polite smile.

He bowed, of course being a gentleman and said, “Thank you, Mrs. Harper.”

I nodded and turned away, weaving through the crowd.

The party looked really lively but my thoughts were tangled up on Ethan.

Earlier, the way he’d looked at me, the sting of his words, either ways he had left me unsettled. I’d walked away to clear my head, but now I was searching for him, hoping to talk things out.

I didn’t expect to feel so drawn to someone like Julian in the meantime, and it left me feeling off-balance.

As I moved through the room, I caught sight of Ethan. He was standing alone, with a drink in his hand. My heart sank. Has he seen me with Julian? I just hope he didn't, the thought made my stomach twist.

I wanted to go to him, to explain, but before I could, a man approached me, he looked familiar until it hit me, it was Nathaniel Brooks.

He greeted me with a warm smile, and soon we were laughing, his easy humor making me forget about Ethan for some seconds. He leaned in to whisper something, and I couldn’t help but laugh again, the sound bubbling up despite the weight in my chest.

When I glanced back to check for Ethan, he was gone. My heart gave a painful lurch. I excused myself from Nathaniel and scanned the room, but Ethan was nowhere to be found.

The music swelled, and I found myself pulled onto the dance floor by another guest, my body moving to the rhythm while my mind stayed totally on Ethan.

I swayed in the man’s arms, but all I could think about was the hurt I’d seen in Ethan’s eyes earlier.

I caused this Or was it something else? After the dance, I slipped away before anyone saw me again and asked for a dance, and I needed air.

I stepped out onto one of the balconies, the cool night wrapping around me like a balm.

The moon cast a soft glow over the gardens below, illuminating the roses and the lilies growing side by side.

Lily. My namesake. I used to love them, their delicate white petals and sweet scent.

But now, knowing how Ethan felt about them, or rather about me they seemed tainted.

I leaned against the railing, my fingers brushing the cool metal, and took a deep breath. The party hummed behind me, but out here, it was just me, my thoughts and the night.

I didn’t know where Ethan had gone or what he was thinking, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was definitely wrong.

Julian’s charm, Nathaniel’s laughter, the music, the lilies it all mixed up together, pulling me further from the one person I wanted to be so close to.

I closed my eyes, the scent of the lilies drifting up from the garden. They were beautiful, but dangerous, just like Ethan thought I was.

And maybe he was right. I was definitely dangerous

I tried to push myself upright, but the pain brought me back down, leaving me shaken with my breath hitching in wild bursts. “No, no, no…this isn’t right,” I rasped, pointing at the baby in the doctor’s hands. “Check again! I had a boy. A boy.” “Ma’am, this is the baby you delivered.” The doctor responded, blinking her lashes. “You’re lying!” I choked out. “I know my baby. I carried a boy. He kicked my belly like one. So that is not my son.”I jabbed a finger at the crying baby girl in her hold. “Please calm down, Rhianna. I think the clinic where you visited got the scan wrong.” Suzy said. “No. The scan was clear.” My throat tightened, my heart beating painfully against my ribs. “Ma’am, ultrasound mistakes do happen.” One of the nurses in a blue uniform attempted to smile gently. “Don't tell me that. I was expecting my child to turn out to be a boy. You

RHIANNA’S POV●●●●Suzy seized my arm, holding on like she feared I might slip away. “C'mon Rhianna. You can do this.” She whispered these words into my ears, wanting me to believe in myself that I could do this. That I could push the baby out without any complications… I cried out in pain, clutching my belly, “Su…zy, the baby! It's…it's coming…ahh!!!” “I know. That's why I need to get you in the car.” She said, helping me rise to my feet. I held on to her, who helped me walk towards the door, trying to keep my composure. “Do you think…maybe…I can finish the salad, you know. I'm starving.” “Are you being serious right now?!!!” She blinked at me. “No, Rhianna. You should forget about that. You're having your baby. And trust me when I say you will be fine.” I groaned dramatically, lurching forward a little. “You're doing this. Trust me, the route is already stamped in my head. No traffic, I promise. Just hold on.” She said, fingers closing around the car keys which she grabbe

RHIANNA'S POV●●●●MONTHS LATER "I want a bowl of chicken salad and some pasta with ice cream on your way back.” I stretched out on the couch like a queen issuing commands, rattling off cravings without even thinking. Whereas, Cassie and Suzy, who were fully dressed and set to head out, stared at me like I'd just said something outrageous. “Huh, what?!!! Why are two staring at me like that? Have I said something wrong?” I raised an eyebrow at them both, who exchanged glances before turning to look back at me. “The fact that I'm indulging my cravings? Is that really the issue, huh? C'mon, it's the baby, okay? This isn't on me, honestly.” I added, letting my words flow. “Oh really? So the baby inside you told you he's craving for a bowl of chicken salad, pasta, and ice cream?” Cassie looked me straight in the eye and asked. “Can you imagine?!!!” Suzy couldn't help but interject on her own. “Ever since she stepped foot into this space after her dramatic action about her husband's

RHIANNA'S POV●●●●I drove out of the clinic and headed straight for the mansion, my mind fixed on how Freddie would react to the good news. Once I had already parked the car in the compound, I got out to walk towards the entrance, opening the door before stepping in fully.I found myself almost skipping up the stairs, smiling at the thoughts of how Freddie will feel when he learns we'd be having a son soon. At the top of the stairs however, voices reached my ears, pulling me to a slow stop. "Huh?!!!" I stopped cold, my brow furrowed. It was his voice, mingling with a woman's breathy moans. For once, I didn't stop to think or blink like I normally would. Instead, stormed forward to shove the bedroom door open so hard with such force that it slammed against the wall. "Fre..." I managed to get out the first syllable of his name, the rest choking back in my throat. My eyes just couldn't believe it, as on the bed that was supposed to be ours, was him, in a compromising position with t

PRISCILLA'S POV●●●●● “Mom, I'm sorry. I truly am. I shouldn't have said that in front of the driver. I guess I shouldn't have sounded that way. Will you ever forgive me mom?!!!” I pressed my mouth into a small pout, my lashes batting really fast. Having slipped past the doorway, now in the apartment, she settled down on the couch while I reminded on my feet, squarely in front of her. “I still feel bad. Moreover, you do owe me an explanation on how you knew all of that.” She said. “Your…your diary.” I managed to say, my fingers nervously tracing the back of my neck. “Oh really?!!! So you go through my stuff the moment I'm out of the house. Is that it? C'mon, that's exactly what an untrained child would do. And here I was thinking I raised you better than this.” She said. “I didn't mean to. I'm sorry, Mom.” I muttered another apology, refusing to meet her eyes. “You know what? I'm not longer mad at you, Priscy. I forgive you wholeheartedly.” She said. “You're not? Oh my go

RHIANNA'S POV●●●● “Rhianna, please…just let me drive you. I'm only being concerned about you and our unborn child and you know it. So why give me a hard time?” He gave me a gentlemanly look, one that is capable of making any woman melt right on the spot. “I am not a baby, so spare me the lecture this time because I don't really need it. Now hand me the keys.” I snatched the car keys from him so quickly before he could even realize, spinning towards the car to get in and drive off. I did, sliding into the front seat behind the steering wheel and shutting the door, while he stood there to watch me drive off. The little pumpkin in my womb however kicked so much that I nearly pulled over, but I kept going till I soon arrived at the clinic. “Good morning ma'am! You must be princess Rhianna, right?”One of the nurses quietly approached me the moment she saw me step foot into the reception. I looked her over from head to toe, giving her an unmistakable unpleasant look now that she was
