LOGINAMELIA’S POV
I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my chest when I heard his name, Julian Pierce.
So, Ethan was wrong. Julian was exactly the kind of man I would like, he's definitely my type of man, if my heart didn’t already belong to someone else.
“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Harper,” Julian said, his voice smooth, a soft smile curling his lips.
His dark hazel eyes seemed to trace every detail of my face, as if he were memorizing me.
“Or may I call you Amelia?” I tilted my head, keeping my tone polite but firm. “I’m sorry, Mr. Pierce, but we’re just getting acquainted. Only my friends call me by my first name.
“I understand,” he said, his voice warm.
“Though I do hope I’ll earn a spot in the friend zone soon.”
“Time will tell, Mr. Pierce,” I replied, offering a small smile of my own.
His hand was still stretched out so I hesitated, then placed my hand in his.
Before I could react, he turned it gently and pressed a soft kiss to my knuckles.
I pulled my hand back quickly, heat creeping up my neck, why did he do that. What if someone saw us? Or better still Ethan? I wouldn't want to cause more pain Ethan.
“Alright, Julian. Nice meeting you.” A chord of music floated through the air, and Julian’s smile widened.
“May I have the honor of your first dance tonight? Mrs Harper”
I shook my head, my mind already elsewhere.
I didn't know whether to say No or look for an excuse.
“Actually, I’m looking for someone, so I’ll have to go now.”
“Second to the last, then?” he pressed, his tone light.
“Surely you’ll be done with whoever you’re searching for by then.”
“I’ll look forward to it,” I said, managing a polite smile.
He bowed, of course being a gentleman and said, “Thank you, Mrs. Harper.”
I nodded and turned away, weaving through the crowd.
The party looked really lively but my thoughts were tangled up on Ethan.
Earlier, the way he’d looked at me, the sting of his words, either ways he had left me unsettled. I’d walked away to clear my head, but now I was searching for him, hoping to talk things out.
I didn’t expect to feel so drawn to someone like Julian in the meantime, and it left me feeling off-balance.
As I moved through the room, I caught sight of Ethan. He was standing alone, with a drink in his hand. My heart sank. Has he seen me with Julian? I just hope he didn't, the thought made my stomach twist.
I wanted to go to him, to explain, but before I could, a man approached me, he looked familiar until it hit me, it was Nathaniel Brooks.
He greeted me with a warm smile, and soon we were laughing, his easy humor making me forget about Ethan for some seconds. He leaned in to whisper something, and I couldn’t help but laugh again, the sound bubbling up despite the weight in my chest.
When I glanced back to check for Ethan, he was gone. My heart gave a painful lurch. I excused myself from Nathaniel and scanned the room, but Ethan was nowhere to be found.
The music swelled, and I found myself pulled onto the dance floor by another guest, my body moving to the rhythm while my mind stayed totally on Ethan.
I swayed in the man’s arms, but all I could think about was the hurt I’d seen in Ethan’s eyes earlier.
I caused this Or was it something else? After the dance, I slipped away before anyone saw me again and asked for a dance, and I needed air.
I stepped out onto one of the balconies, the cool night wrapping around me like a balm.
The moon cast a soft glow over the gardens below, illuminating the roses and the lilies growing side by side.
Lily. My namesake. I used to love them, their delicate white petals and sweet scent.
But now, knowing how Ethan felt about them, or rather about me they seemed tainted.
I leaned against the railing, my fingers brushing the cool metal, and took a deep breath. The party hummed behind me, but out here, it was just me, my thoughts and the night.
I didn’t know where Ethan had gone or what he was thinking, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was definitely wrong.
Julian’s charm, Nathaniel’s laughter, the music, the lilies it all mixed up together, pulling me further from the one person I wanted to be so close to.
I closed my eyes, the scent of the lilies drifting up from the garden. They were beautiful, but dangerous, just like Ethan thought I was.
And maybe he was right. I was definitely dangerous
XAVIER'S POV●●●● “You're okay? You seem a bit off, what's going on? I mean, we're both seated, yet you seem to be the only one lost in thought.” She spoke softly, her voice calm and sweet as ever.“Why do you say so?” I matched her curious tone with a question of my own. If only she knew the naughty thought that just crossed my mind_to have a taste of her, she'd probably react the same way she did in my imagination. She'd definitely go wild for real, either splash her drink on me or worse, slap me across the face in front of everyone and cause a full-blown scene. Can't really blame me. She's just too damn hot to handle and irresistible to ignore. “Alright, enough with the dumb act already. You should cut the clueless act and stop playing dumb for a second. Since you've refused to tell me what this is all about, I might as well take a wild guess. This is about Lisa, isn't it? Wait a minute. Do not tell me you two are kinda pulling some stunt on me.” She set down the crystal gl

And no sooner had I turned off the engine when Etha swung the car door open before I could even reach out to. She didn't stay seated, instead, slid out of the car without giving me a second glance. I climbed out, banging the car door shut to fall into step behind her as we both headed into the club. And in, were red, blue, and green light which shone through the smoky haze, strobes flashing, a stripper twisting around a pole, the bartender moving around with a silver platter, drinks already set down on tables, people dancing in pairs while other danced in solo, all blending into the soundtrack of laughter and music. Without a word to me, Etha moved past the partiers, making her way to a vacant table at the corner to settle down. I trailed behind her, moving cautiously in order not to bump into anyone. She turned around and
𝐃𝐎𝐂. 𝐄𝐃𝐖𝐈𝐍'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕●●●●I leaned back in my swivel seat, my eyes fixed on the monitors blinking in front of me. The lab had been in turmoil ever since we discovered the switch in Rhianna's test results. "Alright!" I rubbed the top of my nose, exhaling slowly to speak. "Let's take a look at the CCTV footage. I need to know who managed to get into the lab without being seen. I want to see what the so-called culprit looks like." I added."Still in progress." Nurse Helen adjusted her glasses, clicking on the first camera feed. I inched closer, keeping my eyes fixed on the screen as it blinked on and off. Beside me, Dr. Karim stood in his white coat, navy shirt, and black slacks, the polished surface of his shoes sparkling in the light. He was having a wristwatch on his wrist too, every strand of his hair neatly combed back. "I've set the system to playback in slow motion, starting from when the lab doors were first unlocked." He said."Hmm..." I hummed. "Wait, pause the fo
𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕●●●●"Who are you and what exactly are you doing here? May I know why you're here, if you don't mind at all?" I couldn't help but ask the dumbest question ever, my hand still lingering on the door. I mean, from her outfit alone, she's clearly a nurse, which I already know and her face isn't unfamiliar, since she normally comes to run checkups on either the emperor, empress or even Rhianna. In other words, she works under the family doctor, which I and the other servants know."And what do I look like to you? A baker? A chef? Or a maid like you?" She scoffed, rolling her eyes before responding back to me. Geez....Huh?!!! Did she just insult me? Who would have thought she can be this damn rude despite her calm looks? "Hold on, did I just hear you insult me?" I blurted out the question before I could even stop myself. And seriously, I was done with her attitude. She was making my blood boil even more. "Insult you? Oh, come on. You are a maid, aren't you? Or a
𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕●●●●As I walked down the corridor with a magazine in my hold which I causally flipped through, I overheard the other maids talking nearby. At first, I thought I was just imagining things, but as their voices became even louder, I realized they were talking about me, for my ears picked up on my name in their gossip."I'm completely blown away. Who would have thought that the empress and princess would choose Angel for the role of a surrogate mom? I don't just get it. What makes her more suitable than me? What does she have that I don't? Is something wrong with me or my body?" "I mean, out of us all, it should have been me, not her. She isn't better than me."I paused mid-step, closing the magazine and lowering it to my side, my eyes narrowing as I stared at them. "What if the child turns out to be a girl? What if she messes up even after giving birth to a boy?""She's likely starting to fall for Freddie already. It's pretty obvious, don't you think?""I can't
𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐀'𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐕●●●●Already at the entrance of the mansion, I slid my spare key into the door lock, twisting it with a swift click. As the door didn't just click but clicked right open, I stepped into the mansion, dashing upstairs to go grab my purse from the bedroom. My expensive purse, at that...Climbing the stairs, I slipped into the bedroom where I snatched my purse before turning to head back downstairs. Just as I stepped into the living room, about to head out, a sudden hard knock came on the door."Yes, who is it?" I asked loudly, expecting whoever was at the door to reveal his or her identity. But my question was met with silence. Since no voice answered back, I figured out it could be Xavier, that silly brother of mine. Maybe he came with Etha to check on me, to see what's been keeping me so long. "Give me a minute. I'm coming." I said, reaching the door already. Without bothering to look through the peephole like I usually do when someone knocks at the door, I t
