AMELIA’S POV

I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my chest when I heard his name, Julian Pierce.

So, Ethan was wrong. Julian was exactly the kind of man I would like, he's definitely my type of man, if my heart didn’t already belong to someone else.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Harper,” Julian said, his voice smooth, a soft smile curling his lips.

His dark hazel eyes seemed to trace every detail of my face, as if he were memorizing me.

“Or may I call you Amelia?” I tilted my head, keeping my tone polite but firm. “I’m sorry, Mr. Pierce, but we’re just getting acquainted. Only my friends call me by my first name.

“I understand,” he said, his voice warm.

“Though I do hope I’ll earn a spot in the friend zone soon.”

“Time will tell, Mr. Pierce,” I replied, offering a small smile of my own.

His hand was still stretched out so I hesitated, then placed my hand in his.

Before I could react, he turned it gently and pressed a soft kiss to my knuckles.

I pulled my hand back quickly, heat creeping up my neck, why did he do that. What if someone saw us? Or better still Ethan? I wouldn't want to cause more pain Ethan.

“Alright, Julian. Nice meeting you.” A chord of music floated through the air, and Julian’s smile widened.

“May I have the honor of your first dance tonight? Mrs Harper”

I shook my head, my mind already elsewhere.

I didn't know whether to say No or look for an excuse.

“Actually, I’m looking for someone, so I’ll have to go now.”

“Second to the last, then?” he pressed, his tone light.

“Surely you’ll be done with whoever you’re searching for by then.”

“I’ll look forward to it,” I said, managing a polite smile.

He bowed, of course being a gentleman and said, “Thank you, Mrs. Harper.”

I nodded and turned away, weaving through the crowd.

The party looked really lively but my thoughts were tangled up on Ethan.

Earlier, the way he’d looked at me, the sting of his words, either ways he had left me unsettled. I’d walked away to clear my head, but now I was searching for him, hoping to talk things out.

I didn’t expect to feel so drawn to someone like Julian in the meantime, and it left me feeling off-balance.

As I moved through the room, I caught sight of Ethan. He was standing alone, with a drink in his hand. My heart sank. Has he seen me with Julian? I just hope he didn't, the thought made my stomach twist.

I wanted to go to him, to explain, but before I could, a man approached me, he looked familiar until it hit me, it was Nathaniel Brooks.

He greeted me with a warm smile, and soon we were laughing, his easy humor making me forget about Ethan for some seconds. He leaned in to whisper something, and I couldn’t help but laugh again, the sound bubbling up despite the weight in my chest.

When I glanced back to check for Ethan, he was gone. My heart gave a painful lurch. I excused myself from Nathaniel and scanned the room, but Ethan was nowhere to be found.

The music swelled, and I found myself pulled onto the dance floor by another guest, my body moving to the rhythm while my mind stayed totally on Ethan.

I swayed in the man’s arms, but all I could think about was the hurt I’d seen in Ethan’s eyes earlier.

I caused this Or was it something else? After the dance, I slipped away before anyone saw me again and asked for a dance, and I needed air.

I stepped out onto one of the balconies, the cool night wrapping around me like a balm.

The moon cast a soft glow over the gardens below, illuminating the roses and the lilies growing side by side.

Lily. My namesake. I used to love them, their delicate white petals and sweet scent.

But now, knowing how Ethan felt about them, or rather about me they seemed tainted.

I leaned against the railing, my fingers brushing the cool metal, and took a deep breath. The party hummed behind me, but out here, it was just me, my thoughts and the night.

I didn’t know where Ethan had gone or what he was thinking, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was definitely wrong.

Julian’s charm, Nathaniel’s laughter, the music, the lilies it all mixed up together, pulling me further from the one person I wanted to be so close to.

I closed my eyes, the scent of the lilies drifting up from the garden. They were beautiful, but dangerous, just like Ethan thought I was.

And maybe he was right. I was definitely dangerous

MS. WHITE'S POV●●●●The tyres had barely rolled past the school gate when Jerry and Ella started their mini quarrel again. “You truly deserved that grade!” He said to her bluntly.Ella on the other hand, twisted towards him, her face tightening into an ugly scowl, “Don't talk to me like that, Jerry.”“Not until you stop acting like you didn't bring this upon yourself in the first place.” He responded, not even flinching.I kept my eyes on the road, my grip tightening on the steering wheel and my knuckles paling as they threw words at each other inside the car, not having even the slightest regard for me. “You think you're so smart? Just because you like books doesn't mean you're anyway better than me.” Ella snapped at him once more.“Jealous, huh?” Jerry laughed dryly.“You're just so annoying. You shouldn't have been my brother in the first place.” She sounded so pained.“If I'm so annoying like you've just stated, then you're lazy.” He countered with hesitation.“Take that bac

MS. WHITE'S POV●●●●I parked neatly inside the school compound, turning to face them who were still at the backseat. “Stay here!” I instructed. “The both of you. You hear me, huh?” Jerry nodded reluctantly while Ella on the other hand, sighed but complied. As soon as I got out of the car, I spotted Ella's mistress standing near the administrative block, speaking to another mistress like herself. However, the moment her eyes landed on me, her expression changed, so she quickly dismissed the other mistress with a polite nod. “Ms. White?!!!” She greeted, forcing a small smile. “Good day!” I responded coolly. “Please come with me.” She gestured toward her office. I walked behind her, my heels clicking sharply on the tiled floor. And behind us through the glass, I could see Jerry pacing the compound while Ella sat on a bench, swinging her legs. I could vividly remember asking them to stick their butts in the car, but I guess they chose to be this disobedient on their own…The mi

MS. WHITE'S POV●●●●I stood at the front of the staircase for a long moment, my fingers tightening around the car keys in my palm.“Jerry?!!! Ella?!!!” I called out, my heels clicking softly against the marble floor as I took a step forward. “Go upstairs! Pack your bags. We're leaving.” I continued.Ella appeared first, coming down the stairs with a tablet in her hold. “Okay, mom!” She simply said. Jerry followed seconds later, his hands clenched into fists at his sides. “Leaving?” He asked. “Like…leaving for good?” “Yes!” I swallowed hard. “For now.” “But Dad…” “Jerry!” I cut him off by uttering his name once more. “Go grab your stuff, we're leaving.” “No!” He shook his head immediately. “You can't seriously do this. You and dad can still sort things out. He's truly sorry. I heard him begging, so why won't you forgive?” Behind him, the nanny stood frozen near the hallway, her hands clasped in front of her apron, and eyes glossy with unshed tears. “Jerry! This isn't somethin

ELLA'S POV●●●●The smell of chicken Alfredo pasta filled the dining room. I sat at the table, twirling my fork in my plate slowly through the pasta before bringing it to my mouth to savor. Jerry stood near the wall with the nanny, his shoulders slumped in a way I had never seen before. While I chewed slowly, I watched him from the corner of my eye, the fork in my hold clinking on my plate.“Eat your food before it gets cold.” The nanny said gently, her voice trying too hard to sound normal. “But I'm eating as you can see.” I responded immediately. She nodded, Jerry bowing his head with his hands clenched into fists by his sides. “She's really leaving, isn't she?” He asked suddenly, my fork dropping back in my plate. I looked up at him fully this time, meeting his eyes, “She didn't say that. And just so you know adults say a lot of things when they're angry.” I said quickly, even though we both knew the truth.“She packed her bags, Ella.” Jerry scoffed softly. The nanny shifte

PRISCILLA'S POV●●●●The school bus pulled to a stop in front of the apartment building, me tightening my grip on the straps of my backpack as the door creaked open. Kids rushed past me in noisy excitement, laughing, pushing each other, calling out names and doing whatever, while I moved slower, stepping down carefully like I always did.The sun was already leaning toward evening. Whereas, my stomach growled the moment my feet touched the ground. “Mom should be home by now.” I murmured to myself as I walked toward the building, my school shoes scuffing lightly against the pavement. When I reached the door, I opened it with my spare key, stepping in quietly with my backpack and lunchbox. However, the apartment seemed too quiet. There was no sound of pots clanging or the smell of food. “Mom?” I called softly, letting the door shut behind me. There was no response from her, my shoulder dropping slightly as my stomach growled once more. I'm starving…I kicked off my shoes near the

MIMIE'S NANNY POV●●●●An unexpected call came early in the morning, telling me a family had just arrived from New York and needed nursing immediately without delay or excuses.By noon, I was standing at the gates of a mansion so large I had to lift my head just to see the roof. Georgia's sun was warm, me continuing to walk till I saw him, Mr. Freddie. He stood on the wide steps with a baby cradled against his chest, his arm being protective while he fixed his gaze on the baby's tiny face. “This is Mimie!” He said, adjusting his hold on her slightly.I nodded immediately, and from that moment, my role began. “She's pretty!” I smiled, collecting the baby from him to hold.●●●●Documents were signed in the study room, papers spread across a long wooden table, travel files and folders marked with names I didn't recognize. I watched him sort through them with steady hands, pausing only when Mimie stirred. He was preparing for a search which was clear, and though he did not explain it
