ELLE

I didn’t expect Theon to agree to go with me to the gala hosted by my parents, but I guess he also wanted to see who this Eleanor was.

He hadn’t said anything since he agreed to accompany me to the party.

“Are you okay?” I asked, hiding a smirk.

Theon turned to me with a frown. He eyed me silently before focusing on the road.

He had decided to drive us to the party instead of a driver, and I had no complaints.

I must admit that it was a bit unnerving how quiet Theon had become. He wouldn’t answer any of my questions; neither did he even glance my way.

Should I say I hated it that he was ignoring me?

No. That wasn’t it. I enjoyed it. I loved how rattled he looked.

He was obviously affected by the news of Eleanor’s return, and I anticipated the look on his face when he would finally meet her.

My eyes fell on his hands, which were tightly gripped against the wheel. His knuckles were almost white, and his brows were furrowed.

The sight brought a pleased smile to my face. The almighty

ELLEIt felt so good to spend a day without worrying about anything. It was late afternoon, and the kids were playing without signs of stopping. It was a hassle to get the both of them to sit for lunch before they ran off again. Now, I was more than grateful for not listening to Sophie and getting a smaller house as I watched Eliza and Milo chase bubbles in the spacious backyard that Sophie was blowing with a theatrical flair. I smiled as they giggled happily while popping the bubbles that got close to them. I hadn’t seen either of them this happy when they were alone. Maybe I should have made sure they met earlier. I sat on a cushioned bench, an iced drink sweating beside me, my eyes drinking in the sight of them. My son and the girl I’d grown to love played together, carefree, radiant. If anyone saw them now, they’d think they were siblings. The way they trailed each other, sharing toys and shouting each other’s names, it felt as though they had known each other longer, even for

THEON I decided to come to the agreement that Eleanor had changed, and she was no longer the person I was supposed to marry five years ago. Part of it was my fault along with her parents and whoever tried to frame her especially since I didn’t know what happened to her the last five years and there were no leads. She wouldn’t talk and I didn’t care to force her anymore. It had happened regrettably, but I had Elle now and I didn’t want to change this reality anymore. I was fine with it. I glanced back at her as she stood, watching the car as it rolled into the compound. She had a fearful expression on her face that rubbed me the wrong way, but I decided to shrug it off. A notification came into my phone, and I saw it was from the Sterling hospital’s director. The DNA test I had asked him to conduct was ready and he was asking if I could come and pick it up. “To the Sterlings Hospital” I told the driver who turned the car around at my order. I sent a quick text to Julian that I

AUTHOR’S POV The shrill sound of her phone ringing woke Amanda up from her sleep at the early hours of the morning. She blinked at sound, still groggy with sleep as she reached for the loud device with a groan. She was about to cuss out whoever was disturbing her when she froze, and chill replaced the anger when she saw it was Mira calling. Amanda blinked to make sure she wasn’t dreaming but Mira’s name was still flashing boldly across the screen. She sat up quickly as she stared at the phone. Mira didn’t call in the early hours of the morning. It was barely 10 am. The thought that something could be wrong made her stomach churn as she answered the call. “Hello?” She answered with a small voice. “Get to the house. Now.” Mira practically screamed at her and then the line went dead. A cold sweat broke on her forehead as her heart began to pound frantically. She tossed the covers to the side and jumped down from the bed. Mira never shouted because she never needed to. All s

ELLE It was a Saturday, but the house seemed gloomy. Eleanor had disappeared first thing in the morning and Theon had to go to the next state for a business meeting. He said he would be back the next day, so I considered staying the night with Milo. I knew he would love it. The only problem was Eliza who was coming along. I couldn’t keep her overnight. It would make Amanda curious and the last thing I needed was for her to get curious and start poking her nose in my business when she became suspicious. I poked my head inside Eliza’s room to see her sitting on the bed while whispering to her doll and giggling like they shared a secret. She was dressed in a blush colored long sleeved top, denim overalls and sneakers. Her hair had been curled and put into pigtails, and she wore a cute luxury pause and a thin gold bracelet. I had to admit, Theon was very generous when it came to her needs. He may not spend a lot of time with her which he felt guilty about, but he spared no expenses

ELLE I had a lot of things on my mind. I had to make a tough decision, and I didn’t know if I wanted to do it. I sighed for the millionth time as I stirred my coffee slowly, watching the cream swirl into the dark liquid like a storm. Theon sat across from me in his usual crisp, tailored suit, skimming through his emails on his tablet. I noticed he looked at me whenever I let out a sigh, but he said nothing as he if knew I was gathering my thoughts and probing me would do no good. The air between us was comfortable. Too comfortable for my liking. That was probably why I was even considering telling him about my plans for tomorrow, but I couldn’t not tell him. It would make no sense to disappear for a day, and I couldn’t not go either. It wasn’t an option. The fact that I was comfortable and had no issue against telling him unnerved me. When had I gotten used to him in my life? When did I stop seeing him as an enemy? I shook my head. Regardless of what my stupid heat thought,

AUTHOR’S POV Amanda couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as the car rolled to a stop in front of the Blackwell’s mansion. She hadn’t stopped smiling and didn’t plan to. She had mapped out a whole plan in her head that was going to succeed no matter what now that she had the money and her hands were itching to start. She didn’t wait for Eliza as she practically jumped out of the race and raced towards the house. She could feel victory at the tip of her fingers, and she could not wait to catch it. Behind her, small Eliza could barely keep up. The shoes her grandpa had bought for her were in a bag which she held as she ran after her mother with a smile on her face. Today was one of those rare days her mother treated her kindly and let her pick what she wanted to she was eager to spend the rest of the day with her as she never made time for her. To Eliza, this was a golden opportunity. “Mummy?” she ran after Amanda who didn’t bother to turn back as her head was buried in her phon
