ELLE

Eliza’s laughter rang through the garden as she scrambled away from my tickling fingers. We had set up a small picnic in the middle of the garden with the blanket on the grass and a basket with all her favourite food.

“You are not playing fair, Ellie” she pointed an accusing but short finger at me as a pout framed her face after she recovered from the tickles.

I raised both hand innocently as a chuckle escaped my lips “But I am a villain. Bad people don’t play fair”

She giggled and threw herself at me “I guess so” she flashed me a bigger smile “but I won this time since you cheated”

“Nope” I shook my head “I won fair and square. There were no rules”

Eliza huffed and plopped down beside me. She reached for her juice and took a bit sip before handing the cup back to me.

I groaned as she wrapped her sticky hands around me then giggled mischievously because she knew she had just stained my dress.

“You little brat” I laughed “I thought you were a princess? Princesses don’t cheat”

AUTHOR’S POVIf it wasn’t for the disbelief on Theon’s face, Elle would have thought it was all a mistake and he didn’t know who she really was, but the silence wasn’t just because he didn’t hear, it was because he was struggling to believe it.Elle. No. Eleanor Sterling stood still, head high, as Theon fought to find a trace of the woman who had walked out of his life five years ago, but there was not a single trace left of her. This wasn’t Eleanor. She was someone else who was claiming to be her. But Theon knew this was just him struggling to refuse the words she had just spoken.“You are Eleanor?” Theon found himself asking again, even though she had already admitted she was.Elle nodded slowly, that bitter smile not leaving her lips. The masks were off. The truths were out, and the emotions of anger and hatred she thought had disappeared with Theon’s love came rushing back, harder and stronger than she remembered.“That’s right, Theon. It’s me. Eleanor Sterling. The same woman you

ELLEWe had been waiting for a while now. It’s been hours since the doctor took the blood from Theon and disappeared behind those doors, and yet, we have had no update on whether it was successful or not.Sophie squeezed my shoulders gently almost every second while my grip on Jeremy tightened with each second that ticked by.Seconds bled into minutes, minutes into an hour, and every tick of the hospital’s clock grated against my nerves. I had never been good at waiting, and it didn’t help at a time like this.“Elle,” Sophie whispered as I jumped to my feet. I had alternated between pacing and holding Jeremy in a death grip multiple times this night.“You are going to make yourself dizzy if you continue like this,” She sighed. “Please, sit down.”I shook my head, “I can’t relax. Not until the doctor gives us the update that I want to hear,”She sighed in defeat, knowing she wouldn’t be able to persuade me. After what felt like hours, the doors opened and the doctor stepped out. I rush

THEONAt that moment, I forgot how critical the situation was as the world came to a halt, and I forgot how to breathe. I looked from Elle to the doctor, to make sure I heard correctly.“What?” I whispered. That was all I could say because her words made no sense. It sounded like a joke, an expensive prank that was not right for the place we were in.How could she say something like that when our child was fighting for his life? We couldn’t waste more time, and here she was, spewing rubbish. Did the grief get to her? Because there was no way that was the truth.“What… what did you just say?” I whisper, not recognising the sound of my own voice. “Elle, what do you mean…?”But Elle was done listening to me. Her hands slammed against my chest, weak and trembling as she shoved me in the direction of the nurse, “Just go, dammit! Go and do the damn test!” she screamed, and her voice cracked on the choked sob. “If you care at all about him, if you love him even a little, then don’t argue wit

ELLETheon was angry at me when I got to the car. “Couldn’t that have waited until we took him to the hospital?” He snapped at me when I entered the car, and I flinched. It was the first time he had ever yelled at me.But I wasn’t angry. I understood. One look at Milo in his arms, and I broke down again as the car began to move.“I’m sorry that I couldn’t protect you,” I cried out, clutching Milo’s hand as gently as I could so I didn’t hurt him more than he was.“He is going to be fine,” Theon whispered, his voice had lost all the hostility. “He is still breathing. Our baby is holding on, Elle, so we can’t give up on him. Wipe those tears,” Theon commanded softly, and I nodded, wiping my tears with trembling hands.I clutched Theon’s shirt to maybe borrow a little bit of courage from him as the car sped towards the hospital.Every passing minute was like a ticking time bomb. We didn’t say anything. We didn’t have to. The silence carried all our unspoken words. The grief, fury, and hop

ELLEIt happened in slow motion. One minute, I was filled with relief when I saw Milo at the top of the stairs. All I wanted was to run up to him, grab him and run out and let the police deal with Mira. The next, my baby was falling. It was so fast, yet so slow. I will never forget the sound of his body hitting each step as he fell, and the way I flinched with each sound, frozen by terror as I watched.Mira’s hands were outstretched as though she was the one who pushed him, but at that moment, I couldn’t be bothered with her.The final thud as Milo’s body dropped a few feet away from me unfroze everything. My scream tore past my throat. “Milo,”My legs buckled, but I forced them to move, lurching forward, as every part of my body shook violently. My heart threatened to cave in as I rushed towards my baby, but Theon was faster.“Milo,” He bellowed, moving past me as he scooped Milo from the ground like he weighed nothing, and Milo’s hand fell limply to the side. He wasn’t moving.“Theo

AUTHOR’S POVMilo’s cries echoed through the empty warehouse. The place was quiet, empty and cold like a building out of a haunted house documentary. It was a miracle that the lights were still on.Elijah grunted as he pushed the door open while dragging the sobbing boy into what used to be the hospital’s lab when it was still functional. The building appeared to be a warehouse to others, but it used to be a hospital in the past until it was turned into a warehouse, and the new owners didn’t care to change some things before they abandoned it as well.Mira entered behind them just as Milo cried, “I want my mummy.” He wailed, his small voice cracking with fear and exhaustion.“I want my mummy!” Milo wailed, his small voice cracking with fear and exhaustion. Milo was scared. He didn’t like the man who had been holding him painfully, and he still didn’t feel comfortable around Mira. The sneer on her face wasn’t helping either.“Oh my God,” Mira groaned, glaring at the crying child with s
