TIA POV
The morning flew by fast. After making the last of the suggested changes, I sent my finished manuscript to my editor. This will be the fourth and final book of my book series. I love a good murder mystery. Add a sexy mountain-shifter, bad boy recluse with a dark past and a lot of love to give, and I am all in. And apparently, so are my readers.
I envied other shifters. Cats and bears didn’t need packs to be happy. Some cat clans kept groups small, like lions, which had small clusters of pride. Tigers travelled in groups of no more than three or four, and Bears, although they had clan options, were often spaced out for territory aggression issues.
What I would give for that option. Lone wolves rarely survived. There was a fine line between a lone wolf and a rogue. I was born of a pack, which meant my odds of disbanding from the Cherry Ridge pack and going lone wolf were unlikely. The more likely option was that my scent turned rogue, and I would become hunted. The problem was, I didn’t trust wolves enough to want to be part of a pack. I was stuck.
I know it sounds absurd, but it was true. Ever since my kidnapping, I haven’t been able to let my guard down to any wolf. The closest I have ever been was with Beta Miles and Luna Sarah. I also don't mind Alpha Tyson, but even then, it was minimal doses. I knew they knew I was hiding, but they never pushed for more. I appreciated the respect.
Instead, I poured my pain, wants, and self into my pages. My family had no idea about my writing career. I am sure they’d consider it beneath the family status. I have been writing for a few years now, and what started as online blogs for short stories somehow worked into a publishing deal and genuine income under my assumed pen name El Henry. Most people assumed I was a man. Let them think what they wanted as long as they bought my books, I didn’t care.
I always knew that if I were married off as planned, I wouldn’t be allowed higher education or a career, so writing was something I could hide and keep to myself.
Watching Beta Miles and Alpha Tyson drive away this afternoon was disheartening. It was time to raise the walls and put my armour back on. I had no more allies within the pack. The only two I had driven away, returning home to a peaceful place.
Only my father and brother were with me to see them off. My mother and Hilary were still out enjoying their therapy together.
“Did you get your wolf yet?” Simon finally asked after the SUV containing my only allies disappeared from sight.
“Nope.” I popped the p to punctuate the response.
“Useless!” Simon scoffed and stormed inside, leaving my father and me alone on the front step.
“I always enjoy our sibling affection,” I mumbled.
I heard my father sigh. “Tia,” he began. He sounded pained at the mere idea of having to address me. That hurt, but again, I push it away. “I know this is hard, but you should be aware of the pressures this puts on us. The Ravens' Peak pack offered us a great alliance for you. You aren’t the warmest of females; this is your best bet to gain a mate. After all, I doubt your true mate would accept someone so—cold and distant.”
I hated it when my father was political with his approach to me. It felt disingenuous when he did.
“So, because I have no wolf, is the Ravens' Peak pack pulling out of the agreement?” I asked bored.
“They are considering their options. That is all we know for now. You must let us know if you feel any pressure to shift. It would greatly help the pack if you could shift, even once.”
I turned to look at the man who was meant to be my father. At this point in my life, he was nothing more than a distant acquaintance.
“Alpha Markus, if I could shift for you right now, I would. I don’t feel any signs of having a wolf, and I suspect I won’t be any time soon. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you and your ambitious endeavours, but you can’t bleed a stone.”
I watched my father's face tighten at my words. I addressed him without warmth or familiarity; it was simply a polite and neutral response. It revealed my lack of affection towards him as a family member, only recognizing him as my Alpha. I watched as his wolf flickered in his eyes. I knew his wolf recognized me as his pup; it was just unfortunate that the human side did not. His human vessel was the reason for our discord, not his wolf.
“Perhaps we should see one of the healers? See what is wrong with you.” He suddenly suggested.
“I already have, Alpha. She suspects that what was done to me while kidnapped had taken away my wolfen spirit. With the injections given, it most likely killed her before she was fully developed. Perhaps if you had taken me to a healer for a check-up earlier, we might have saved her.” My answer was simple and logical. I was injected with serum, but it didn’t kill my wolf. It was designed to advance my puberty, starting it to develop much earlier in life. That was why I had curves and a desired hourglass figure early on—another reason I have had to maintain the icy exterior. I will not allow myself to be used by unworthy males and their despicable desires.
“Fu.ck!” My father cursed as he ran his hand through his dirty blonde hair. “Very well. Let me know if there are any changes, and I will try to smooth this over with the Ravens' Peak Pack.”
I watched my father offer no more conversation or an attempt to comfort me. I had just reminded him of my torment, but he only saw what he was losing. However, I was used to this—the stain no one wanted to discuss.
With that, my father turned and walked away. Heading inside, most likely to update Simon on my failed presence.
The sound of clanking armour, swords and battle-axes clash with aggression. The scene before her was absolute chaos. How could this have split so far, creating an actual dark age of violence and despair? Hundreds of her glorious wolves lay slaughtered on the ground before her feet, yet the battle showed no desire to whine down. He did this. He should have been stopped years ago, but hesitation and uncertainty prevented her from doing what was necessary. She loved him once. Only a man who held such a void and darkness within could truly accept a being of her dark station in this universe. It was too easy to become lost and lonely in the darkness; she knew that better than anyone else, but he accepted her. He never judged or condemned, and she found herself more drawn to him above all others. Her sister had a station in creation that was honoured and respected, but who truly honoured or respected her?No one thought to see beyond the mask she was forced to wear. The darkness e
EPILOGUE PT. 2NARRATIVE POVTia’s eyes drifted from her pups over to the love of her life. She hadn’t reached the age of full accession yet, but every day, she saw Miles becoming stronger as her protector. Once she reached twenty-five, their strength would become limitless. It made sense why the Goddess granted this power to a female over a male. Alphas are very easily led astray at times; Lunas tend to be the calm balance of the pair. Not that she ever doubted Miles to be honest and trustworthy, but many respectable Alphas would love to have their hands on the power upgrade that Miles received after fully mating her. Many despicable Alphas still tried to propose an upgrade of Alpha, as they called it. Tia would never abandon her Alpha, however. Only Miles would love her the way she wanted and needed to be loved. After all, he was her true love.It pained Tia to know the rift in the Robert’s family. Although Miles wouldn’t say it, she knew that he was deeply hurt by his mother's blat
EPILOGUE PT. 1NARRATIVE POV (2 years later)“I still can’t believe that you are now the new High Alpha and Luna.” Tia gushed as she sipped her mocktail beverage with her group of closest friends. It was the annual celebration at the Cherry Ridge pack; all four of the packs' Alpha pairs and pups gathered in the backyard and had a community BBQ to celebrate another year of success and growth.Around her sat Raven, Sarah, Victoria and the guest of honour, High Luna Carissa. The men stood around the massive BBQ grill, pumping out hundreds of burgers for the pack members who decided to attend. That was what Tia loved about Miles. He loved to take care of their pack. He had warriors running food out to the patrol guards, ensuring they knew how much they were appreciated for their roles. Tia also knew that the moment Miles talked her into the massive industrial-sized grill, he would find any excuse to use it.Boys and their toys.“I honestly can’t believe how far Alek and I have come. NARRATIVE POV Shortly after, Tia and Miles opened up the pack to start accepting new pack members. First in line were two rogues named Johnny and Dave. They were misguided in the past, and have answered for their wrongs. Meadow saved them for a reason all those months ago, and since joining, Johnny has proven himself to be an incredible warrior trainer.Dave was a bit more nurturing and soft compared to Johnny, so he requested to oversee the production of the crops. As a pup, Dave always enjoyed gardening with his grandparents before everyone passed on, and he turned rogue. For him, reconnecting with nature brought a sense of belonging and nostalgia to his restless soul.“We are making a stopover at the New Dawn pack on our way home.” Sarah smiled as she sipped her tea.“Oh? It’s been a little while since I reached out. Could you give them my best? Once the twins are born, I plan to have them all here, and you three are invited.” Tia winks at baby Elliot as she speaks. The New Dawn p
NARRATIVE POV ( 6 months later)Tia and Miles quickly settled into the Cherry Ridge pack. They were both eager to start fresh and build the pack they both desired. One that gave hope and second chances to those who needed help.“Tee, Ty and Sarah are pulling up. Are you ready?” Miles called out as he helped his four-month pregnant wife to her feet.It was a complicated pregnancy, with the stress of building a pack from the ground up, recruiting members and now carrying twins, all in such a short time. Tia has been stressed.Tia groaned. “You’re lucky they’re twins, because now I can cut you off since there is more than one.” She mumbled, causing Miles to grin.“Is my sexy Queen grumpy today?” he teased, earning himself a playful glare.“Keep it up, and you are cut off, Mister!” she shot back, causing them both to laugh.“Just a few more months, baby. After that, we will be holding our two precious babies, and you will forget all about the swollen ankles, the sore back and the bladder
NARRATIVE POVHis closest childhood friend, Alpha, his brother in arms, was fighting for his life, and there was nothing that Beta Leo could do about it. The mirror was solid; he could not enter the dark realm where his Alpha was trapped.“Dark Sister”, Beta Leo murmured. It had to be her doing. He stood there, helpless. Watching the man he’d respected most being torn to shreds before his very eyes. The screams seemed to echo; no doubt that they would haunt him for years to come.“Ben!” Beta Leo cried out. He was desperate to aid him, but was lost in how to achieve it.The image began to fade, and Beta Leo’s face reflected back to him. It was full of tears and pain. Never had he felt so helpless in his life, and the feeling of failing his Alpha pressed down on him.But all that raw emotion froze cold within him the moment he realized there was a second reflection in the mirror.A mysterious female figure. Her hair was long, black as night. Her face was as pale as the moon. There was a
