"Elizabeth Stone, you have to come with us and identify the body," Officer McKenzie told me when I finally regained consciousness at the hospital.

I mustered my strength and followed him inside the morgue. The icy air blasted on my face, sending shivers down my spine. The acrid smell of chemicals assaulted my senses.

I froze on my spot, feeling like I wasn't ready to confront grandfather's remains. Yet, I knew that I had to overcome the fear and do what I had to.

Officer McKenzie paused and beckoned me to follow him. He stopped in front of a table where a body lay covered by a white sheet. He pulled back the sheet, revealing the face of the deceased.

The corpse was beyond recognition, reduced to such a state that sent shivers into my trembling body. Feeling dizzy, I clung to the steel table for support.

"Are you alright?" the officer asked.

"I-I'm fine," I lied, although it was evident in my paper-white face that I wasn't.

Finally, Officer McKenzie asked me the question that I had bee

An hour had passed since Dr. Harvey left, but Crista still hadn't returned. Frustration began to bubble within me.I had made it clear that I needed her to keep a close eye on Peter, especially since his condition was unpredictable and he often experienced seizures. But she had left him unattended for far too long.Just as I was about to storm out of the room in search of my sister, the door creaked open, and Crista hurried in, surprise evident on her face when we locked eyes.“Where have you been?” The impatience rang clearly in my tone."I got caught up in a phone call and lost track of time."It was a stupid excuse, as she made it sound like the call was far more important than the dying patient.I crossed my arms under my breasts. "You promised you would watch over Peter. And you couldn't even do that for an hour? What if something had happened to him while you were gone?""I'm sorry, okay? I promise it won't happen again."I searched for any signs of sincerity but found none. My

I knew that if I didn't walk away now, I would end up hurting Carmina. I didn't want to do something I would later regret, so I turned on my heels, only to collide with the hard wall of Blaze's chest. When I looked up to meet his gaze, I realized he had been listening to the conversation. He didn't say a word. He just looked at me.I made my way to our bedroom and changed my clothes. I felt like I might suffocate from the air inside the house if I stayed, so I grabbed my car keys and headed to my car.I drove through the dimly lit highway that stretched before me, the familiar sights passing by in a blur. After what felt like an eternity, I found myself parked in front of the hospital where my younger brother was confined. My heart stopped. Does Blaze know about this?I summoned my composure and found my voice. "You disappeared three years ago, Carmina. Even your parents had no clue where you went. You didn't even show up at my wedding, and now you pop up out of nowhere claiming you and my husband have a son… How am I supposed to believe you?"“I can prove it, Claire. I can.” She challenged me, a smug smile playing on her lips. The sound of hurried footsteps made us pause. We both turned to Blaze who was wearing his robe, revealing the outline of a sculpted chest. He looked confused, his eyes darting between me and Carmina, then landing on the little boy who looked to be around two years old. He froze. "What's going on?" he asked, unable to tear his gaze from the child. The question that had been lodged in my throat finally resurfaced. "Is this true, Blaze? Is the boy your son?"Blaze was too shocked to respond. He couldn't deny everything now since the child looked so much like him. In fact, the boy re

I felt like the ground had disappeared beneath my feet. I had never expected to hear such cruel words from the man I had loved with all my heart. It was as if everything I had done for him during our marriage had been nothing but a cruel joke.I looked deep into his brown eyes, seeking any trace of the pain I felt. But there was nothing. No sympathy, no regret, no emotion. It felt as though he had already moved on.I gave him a bitter smile that reflected all the pain I felt. "I may not have lived up to your ideal of the perfect woman, but I did my best to be a good wife.”Blaze said nothing. His lack of emotion hurt more than any harsh words he could have said.I lifted my chin and asked, "Is there someone else?" The answer would hurt either way, but I needed to know.He seemed hesitant at first, but then he shook his head and replied, "There's no one."I had known him long enough to know he was speaking the truth. And as painful as it was to realize that our marriage had simply fal

Crimson gently wrapped his arms around my waist as I rested my head on his chest and closed my eyes. It had been an hour since we left Isabela's room, but her confession still lingered in my mind. Part of me wished I had never learned the truth, but another part of me was grateful for the closure it brought. "I wish I had been with my grandmother in her final moments so she could have shared the truth with me instead of my cousin. I wish I could have told her that I don't blame her; that despite her mistake, she remains the kindest person I know. I believe she wouldn't have done anything unless she was pushed to her limit.” I raised my head to look at him. Witnessing the frown on his forehead, I smoothed it away with my fingers until it vanished. "I have my own regrets too," I whispered, feeling a tightness in my throat from the flood of emotions. "I wish I had discovered the truth sooner, so I didn't chase after it blindly. And I wish I could have reunited Grandpa with the wom
