LUCIAN

The car slowly rocked past stony paths before finally pulling on to a clear road. From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Zayn turn his head in my direction.

“You could have just said we’d be going to see her,” Zayn sounded a bit annoyed.

“I wanted it to be a surprise,” I shrugged, trying to fight back the urge to smile.

The prospect of seeing my girl seemed to calm down all the nerves that were fighting deep within me.

She was the one thing that seemed to tether me down when it felt like I was spiraling. Today, I wasn’t going there for any special reason whatsoever. I just really wanted to see her.

“Sure you did. Reese is going to have my head today,” Zayn sighed.

I took a quick glance at the man and noticed his attention was on his phone. He was probably talking to his mate. There was no doubt about that.

Not like that was something that bothered me. Deep down, I knew it was something I could never have. I didn’t want one, never have and never will.

“What did you do?” I asked.
