VIOLET

The phone slipped from my fingers and landed on the bed with a soft thud, but the sound echoed in my ears like a gunshot.

My breath caught in my throat, and for a second, the entire world narrowed down to that one awful message, still burning itself into the back of my mind.

Lucian Sinclair is a monster, and you’ve just thrown yourself right into his claws.

I sat there, frozen, staring at the crumpled bedspread like it would somehow provide the answers I desperately needed.

My mind whirled, trying to make sense of it.

Was this some cruel prank? Someone's idea of a sick joke? Or was there truth buried in that warning?

The sound of the door clicking shut downstairs jolted me out of my stupor. I scrambled for my phone, shoving it under the pillow like a child hiding a broken toy. Heart hammering against my ribs, I strained to listen.

Lucian’s footsteps were unmistakable. It was all calm, deliberate, powerful. I swallowed hard.

Pull yourself together, Violet.

LUCIANIt had been about three days since the dinner with Kane and Marissa. Two since Zayn told me about West Creak brokering an alliance with Ashborne Pack. Five since I’d noticed something unusual with Violet. She’d been pretty good at her role as Luna, no doubt about that. I had to give it to her, she had a knack for being open and there for the pack members whenever they needed it.Whatever complains it was they had, especially when it was something that required utmost attention, she was always quick to lay it to me. Which was one of the things I actually found amusing about her. What I did find unusual though was certain actions I’d picked up on from being her roommate for quite some time now.It mainly happened when she was asleep. I’d been skeptical when it happened the first time. She’d mumbled somethings in her sleep, her whole form shrinking into what had seemed like a fetal position.I still remembered how she’d woken up with a start, her whole body lightly trembling. She

LUCIANPunch. Then another punch. And another.I couldn’t quite tell how long I’d been going at the punching bag for but I reckoned it was a substantial amount of time.I wiped a sheen of sweat of my forehead before moving to grab the small towel that laid to the side of my training bag.It felt good to let all the week’s steam into one sole target. Didn’t matter if it was a damn punching bag or someone else’s face. What felt good was the sweet calm that settled on my body with each jab.“Do you ever take a break or you just want to maintain that ‘monster’ title you’ve got going on?”I turned just in time to see Zayn walk in. He’s dressed casually, fully rocking the joggers and a simple t-shirt.“Fuck off.” I growl, turning back to the punching bag. Each jab I make is followed by a small grunt from my mouth. My attacks were calculated, the image of Tristan’s face slowly forming in my head with each strike. If I concentrated hard enough, I could feel the vibration of his bone crunching

LUCIAN This wasn’t my first meeting with delegates from other packs—especially when said delegates happened to be the Alpha and Luna of that pack. However, it wasn’t the same as it’d always been. I had Violet beside me this time, and we had to make sure everything panned out to perfection.I held out a hand to her which she eventually took. Reluctance? Maybe. But that wasn’t something to care about. I’d been pretty intentional with what I did with the knife. It spelled everything I wanted her to know.Mess up, and she’d be taught an unforgettable lesson.Hand-in-hand, we made our way to the entrance of the house where the Blue Stone convoy had just come to a stop.I stood beside Violet and watched as Alpha Kane gingerly stepped out of the car. He went over to the other side and helped his mate out. They both stuck close as they ascended the steps towards us.Alpha Kane’s face was a mask of steel. That was until he stopped before us. His smile was near blinding.“Told you I’d hold my

VIOLETMy hand continued to hover over the drawer. Each breath I took poured harder into the pool of uncertainties that was my mind. There were moments where it was paramount that you take the leap. Now was the time.“Fuck it.” I cursed under my breath before pulling the drawer open.It was empty.“Huh?” I didn’t know when those words left my lips. What the hell was going on? I’d known for a fact that there were papers here, documents too. Where had it all gone? My mind was whirring with the various possibilities of what could be going on.“What the hell are you doing?”If it was possible for my soul to leap out of my body, it would have done so by now. I whipped back just in time to see Lucian’s sneer directed at me.His eyes slowly moved to the drawer and then. He did not look pleased in the slightest. One step…then another.Soon enough, Lucian had closed the distance between us. Save for my heart pounding violently against my chest, I was perfectly fine.“Snooping around people’s t

Violet’s POV“Oh, to have someone that spoils me as much as my brother does to you.”Was there ever a moment when Reese didn’t put her dramatics to play? I highly doubted it. But there we were. She had taken to groaning and then throwing herself on the bed.I’d have thought Lucian would come up to the room to maybe take a small break before going to do whatever he wanted but he’d made a point of staying far away. Had he sensed that Reese was here? I wasn’t so sure.“So,” She turned to face me. There was a small smile playing on her lips. “A meeting with Blue Stone Pack.”“Dinner,” I corrected. “I’m not entirely sure what to even expect. It’s not like I’m exactly conversant with having exquisite dinners and the likes of that.”“Oh please, I’m sure you’ll do fine. No need to put yourself down so much.” Reese had a cheeky smile as she stared back at me.Oh to be so carefree as she was. She had someone who didn’t play about her and that would be enough for me.I didn’t have that luxury th
