Chapter 7

Author: Cat Whisperer
Selena lost her baby. Because she fell down the stairs, her legs were severely injured. Even walking would be a challenge for her.

As she sat on her hospital bed, she cried and blamed me, "Peter, she was the one who brought this upon me. Our baby is gone!"

Only then did Peter snap back to his senses.

Once again, he had lost his child. Immersed in sorrow, he stood there motionlessly and helplessly.

Zachary couldn't bear to listen to such false accusations. He presented the video he recorded right away.

From the video, we could see that Selena first intended to push me down the stairs. Nevertheless, my retaliation made her fly into a rage.

While we struggled, she lost her footing and fell, suffering the consequences of her very own evil plan.

Selena had a moment of revelation. She pointed at Zachary and yelled angrily, "You're an asshole! You didn't leave at all! You were just waiting to record the video!"

Peter closed his eyes and shouted, "Shut up!"

Without Peter covering for her, Selena was admitted straight into a mental hospital. Even her relatives were unwilling to care for her. At this moment, she finally got to experience the helplessness I felt in the first place. I put my phone away and massaged the area between my brows. When the doorbell rang, I got to my feet to open the door. Peter lifted the lunchbox in his hand and smiled apologetically. "You are still in recovery, so you need to be eating nutritiously. I've made a few dishes for you by following some recipes. Try some," he said.I stared at the freshly-made dishes in his hands that were still giving off steam. At that moment, I was brought back to when he pursued me. In order to cook dishes that suited my palate, he forced himself to become a five-star chef. Not only that, he made unique dishes according to my preferences. Even though what he did in the past moved me, his actions in the present day disgusted me. I looked away and rejected him with

News about the harsh weather was being reported on all television channels. I thought that Peter would cower at the challenge. After all, he looked like such a weak man. To my surprise, he sent me a video call request before he departed. He had donned thick clothing and carried supplies with him to begin his journey. I sat in a warm room while I watched him walk out into the chilling winds and snow. Zachary presented me a bowl of chicken soup he had boiled for me. "Have some of this to keep yourself warm."I accepted the soup from him and prompted, "You should sit down and get some rest too." While I ate the warm soup, Peter's lips turned white from the cold. Braving the strong winds, he conquered the first peak and hung a lucky charm at the top of the mountain. He raised the charm in the wind, grinning like an idiot at the camera. "Look. I did it! You gave me the courage to do this!" I scoffed and did not respond to him. Without feeling dispirited, Peter went on to

After going through the subsequent days of torment, Peter was rendered to just a bag of bones who looked sickly.I, on the contrary, regained my health gradually. A healthy complexion returned to my face too. I chose a gravesite for my unborn child. I buried the child's checkup reports, ultrasound imaging, and clothes in the ground. While stroking the ice-cold gravestone with tears streaming down my face, I said, "Come back to me and be my child in your next life, okay?" Zachary kept me company during my unborn child's burial. Then, he brought me home. Peter was crouched at my door, waiting for us. I rolled my eyes at him. I questioned, "What are you doing here?" He fell to his knees and begged, "Let's talk in private. I won't bother you anymore moving forward." Helplessly, I pointed toward a café some distance away and said, "Let's go there." Peter fixed his eyes on me as I drank my cup of coffee. He remained silent.I lowered my cup of coffee and asked, "What is it?

The sound of intense panting and an amorous air surrounded me. A soft moan marked the end of that gratifying session between the pair. From the corner of my eye, I could secretly see the pair intertwined in bed. Agony and weariness crept all over me.Yet, there was nothing I could do. The woman on the bed put on a cardigan, then scooted over to my side. As her sharp nails rubbed against my neck, she asked, "Why are you still keeping her alive? You're not still in love with her, are you?" My husband, Peter Crawford, crawled out of bed and then smoked a cigarette nonchalantly. He snapped out of his daze only when his phone rang. After taking a quick glance, he answered his phone attentively, "Mrs. Gibson, is everything okay?" When the woman heard how Peter addressed his caller, she got back to the side of the bed and blew air at him, titillating him till his breaths began to get a little heavy. From the other end of the call, my mother asked in a concerned voice, "Are you

When Peter came back from work, he acknowledged Selena's greeting toward him. Then, he instructed Selena to get a towel to wipe me down with it. Even though Selena was displeased, she had no choice but to obey his instructions. Peter pulled off his necktie that was restricting him, then walked around the couch to come to me. He pulled a stool over and sat down by my side. All of a sudden, he stood up and stroked my face gently. "You are still as beautiful as you used to be. I remember when I spent five years sucking up to you to pursue you before finally touching your cold heart. "Now, it is your turn to experience unrequited love. For some reason, this is thrilling." In the past, I was the only one he had eyes for. Now, however, his eyes contained a whole plethora of complicated emotions. He gulped as he brushed his finger across my lips. "You are now like a sleeping beauty," he remarked. Then, I felt a cooling sensation on my lips. He was kissing me affectionately.

Peter emerged from the study and scrutinized Zachary. Zachary clipped his identification to his collar and was about to step in when Peter extended his arm to stop him from doing so.In an arrogant tone, he questioned, "Why wasn't I informed about this?" With a composed look, Zachary retrieved a letter of appointment from his backpack. "You may call the person who appointed me if you have any doubts." Peter picked up his phone immediately and made an outgoing call. "Mrs. Gibson, there's a man at my door who claims to be a rehabilitation therapist whom you appointed."Mom answered in a gentle and soft voice, "Yeah. It isn't convenient for us to visit today, so we appointed him to go over. His name is Zachary Jenkins. You may check the letter of appointment." Peter snatched the letter of appointment from Zachary. After noticing that there weren't any problems with it, he ended the call in a hurry. Zachary patted his outfit, then indicated to Peter that he wished to enter. W

I moved back to my own place, and Zachary was my caregiver. The month-long cooling-off period before my divorce could be finalized was sufficient for me to pick up the ability to handle my own matters. I rejected all of Peter's calls. Whether he wanted to reconcile or question me, I would not entertain him. It was only after I recollected myself mentally that I allowed him to come to the clinic. As Zachary massaged me gently, he would check in with me from time to time. "Am I using too much force?"I closed my eyes and lifted the corners of my lips. "It feels just right." Knowing that Peter and I were about to talk, Zachary helped me into the wheelchair attentively while Peter watched him with his teeth clenched. I coughed to draw Peter's attention back. Now filled with regret, Peter agreed to the divorce. With that, I managed to get my hands on our divorce papers. When Zachary checked up on me briefly, he grinned. "Wonderful. You've been recovering well. Let's go to your checkup at the hospital together today." I sat in my wheelchair as he pushed me forward. Cautiously, he navigated me through the crowd. When I saw Selena at the end of the hallway at the hospital, I knew that something was going to happen. She hurried toward me. Unabashedly, she said, "I'd like to have a chat with you." I leaned back in my wheelchair slightly and replied, "Sure."Selena shot Zachary a glare before clarifying, "What I want to talk about is very personal. He cannot be here." I took the hint and nodded. Zachary, however, knitted his brows together. He leaned forward toward me and said, "I'm worried about you." Selena interjected, "Please help her get her medical report, Mr. Jenkins.
