FREYA’S POV

“Why would you say something like that? People might get the wrong idea.” Vivian said, holding back the wave of excitement she tried to hide.

“People like you—” I said curtly.

“Freya.” Killian’s voice pitched in a sharp warning. The fork he was holding already tilted as he squeezed.

Lady Maeve’s eyes shifted from me to Killian.

“Stop saying nonsense.” Killian said, before turning his attention back to his food. His chewing was quick and aggressive.

“Why?”  I chimed“Who knows… she might be your next Luna.”

Killian’s fork clattered on the table when he dumped it. His jaw flexed.

We stared at each other. The only thing keeping us apart was the table between us.

They started it—why do I have to back down?

As long as they take the first strike, I won’t spare anyone who tries to drag me down—including him. Especially him.

“Alpha, the shrimp are ready.”

The maid’s tiny voice broke through the tension.

Alpha Killian rolled his tongue inside his mouth, nodding before adjusting his hips.

Vivian’s eyes lit up like  fireworks as the maid set the plates in front of Killian.

Killian doesn’t eat shrimp. I held my breath when Killian wore the plastic hand gloves and started peeling the shrimp.

Vivian moved closer. “Killian, you don’t like shrimp.”

Killian kept his expression straight, like the shrimp were the only thing keeping him sane. He nodded. “Hmmm.”

So it was for Vivian.

I stuffed the food into my mouth, sensing Lady Maeve’s smile.

Now I couldn’t wait for this moment to be over.

Killian’s gaze stayed fixed on his plate, but I felt his eyes on me, and my skin prickled.

“Wow, Killian, you didn’t have to peel them for me.” Vivian cheered once Killian started taking off the gloves.

The corner of his brow arched. “You want shrimp?”

I paused.

Vivian’s smile crumbled into dust. She swallowed, letting out softly, “It’s for me, isn’t it?”

Killian blinked like he was genuinely stunned. He signaled the maid with his fingers.

To Vivian, he said softly, “It’s for my wife. They are her favorite.”

The spoon slipped from my grip, shifting the attention back toward me.

How did he know?

The maid placed the plate in front of me, giving a low bow.

I stared at the shrimp, feeling my heart pulse softly, barely able to move.

Looking up at Killian, his eyes were still stern. I wanted nothing more than to see what was going through his head.

Motioning at the plate, he scoffed. “A little protein might help you start thinking clearly.”

My lips pressed together, balling both my hands into fists.

“My dear wife, eat.” His finger lingered on his bottom lip, the corner of his mouth curling into a dangerous, twisted smile. Every inch of him screamed control.

He didn’t need to try too hard.

“I hate shrimp. Throw them out.” I said, voice cold and stern.

The maid bowed her head, reaching for the plate, hands trembling.

Killian’s groan across the table rattled the poor girl so hard the plate slipped before she could hold it.

She swallowed hard as Alpha Killian slowly tilted his head.

The maid turned back to me, whimpering slightly. “Luna…”

Keeping my gaze on Killian’s haunting eyes, I snapped, “Didn’t you hear me?”

The maid bit her lip, narrowing her pleading gaze at me.

The room was like a taut wire, ready to snap at the slightest wrong move.

The maid, not getting a reaction from me, crouched down to lift the plate again. Killian’s voice, cold and menacing, echoed through the walls, burning against my chest.

“Move that plate. Don’t expect to use those hands—ever.”

This madman…

I could feel the sides of my eyes twitch as he smirked.

He folded his arms and motioned, and I knew what he meant.

He knew I would do anything to help others. I just had to get the money needed for the divorce settlement and be truely done with him.

Since he didn’t want to end things peacefully, I’d go to the council myself.

Scooping the fork into my palm, numbness crashed like a tide through my arm, making the fork heavier than usual.

My pulse hitched. Every moment, he watched as if one wrong step would make me vanish.

The crisp taste was like fire as I munched.

Killian nodded, finally letting out a deep sigh. “Nicely done, pup.”

I chewed, forcing a low smile. He was going to regret this.

Chop!

The fork clicked when it collided with the plate as I took another piece.

Vivian’s face was already red like a tomato, her sharp eyes doing things she wished she could with her hands. I beamed at her.

Lady Maeve had been silent, probably plotting the next possible move to humiliate me.

This wasn’t so bad after all, but I was no one’s puppet.

“Alpha Killian.” I called softly, and Killian’s smile faltered.

“What is it?” he said smoothly, reaching over to the glass of water beside him.

“Doing things like this, people might get the wrong idea.”

Killian’s hand paused mid-air. He sighed, taking up the glass to his mouth.

Heat flushed across my cheeks when I found my gaze on his neck, noticing the way his throat dipped with each sip he took.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because we will be getting a divorce.”

Silence.

Chill.

Tension.

Everything twirled at once.

Killian shot up—his chair scraped lightly against the floor, slicing through the silence.

“Divorce?” Vivian said quietly, staring at Killian. “What divorce—”

“Killian, is this true?” Lady Maeve asked in disbelief. I didn’t miss the hidden excitement in her tone.

Crash!

Killian growled, smashing the glass on the floor.

His wolf aura emanated from him, filling the room with raw, dangerous energy. “No one is getting a divorce.”

Vivian shivered in fright, scurrying away from him.

I went back to my meal amidst the chaos.

Tap! Tap!

Killian yanked me off my seat, and the fork clattered to the floor.

His rage filled the room and, strangely, fueled my own delight.

Since he refused to let me go, I planned to drive him insane.

You haven't given me a response.” I forced the words from my lungs, even as the air shrunk between us.“Why are you asking for a divorce?
