Nehmetawy’s POVThe heart of my power swirl within me, desperate to return to its former master. The movement of my power alerts me to Thoth’s presence within my Temple, causing my body to stiffen as I look in the direction of the only hallway leading inside. Reaching across the space between us, I grab Jamari’s hand with mine. “There are enemies all around you Jamari, you must be careful who you trust.” I would have rather spoken to her a little while longer, but I can’t let Thoth capture her spirit while it is housed in Duat. Using my power, I blast Jamari back to her body in the Mortal Realm, waving my hand in front of her sofa, making it disappear. Leaning back, I put on a show of nonchalance moments before Thoth comes walking through the door, whistling to himself softly. His whistling stops abruptly when he enters the room and sees only me sitting within. His face contorts with anger, his eyes narrowing as he turns to me. “Where is she?” He growls, taking quick steps in my dir
Jamari’s POV“Take your hands off of her.” I demand of the unknown man holding Nehmetawy by the throat. Levi and Kenji both groan in unison as they move to my side, ready to fight the unknown threat. The man’s eyes widen in surprise as they roam my body from head to toe, eliciting a growl from Ren as he bursts from Kenji’s body. His eyes flicker to Ren for a moment before dismissing him as if he wasn’t a threat. “Who are you to demand things from me?” He asks, standing up straighter, his body growing two more feet, putting him at around eight feet tall.My brows scrunch together as I size up the threat in front of us. ‘Do you know what you are doing Mari?’ Rieka asks, moving forward so she can peer out through my eyes, causing their color to change to her startling blue. The man pauses, turning his head to the side as he watches me. “You’re the one she was looking for.” He says matter of factly, a laugh bubbling up from his chest. “You foolish mortal.” His voice comes out condescend
Remiel’s POV“Something is wrong with Jamari.” I hop from my seat on the sofa and start pacing Uncle Luc’s cozy living room. His eyes lift up from his reading in surprise, a frown forming on his brows. “I can feel it inside that she is in danger.” Fear grips my heart at the thought of something horrible could happen to Jamari and I’m not there to protect her. Uncle Luc sets down his book before slowly rising from his place in his favorite rocking chair. The speed of my pacing increases the longer this feeling of danger builds within me. Uncle Luc walks to the center of the living room floor, blocking my path. “What is it Remiel?” He asks, concern in his voice. “Someth…” My words are cut off as the air stops flowing into my lungs. The feel of someone’s hands being wrapped around my throat drops me to my knees, my hands moving up to pry the invisible force off of me. Uncle Luc drops down beside me, helplessness causing his hands to shake as he quickly moves over my body in search of
Levi’s POV“I’ve known about Damballa since the moment he left purgatory.” Nehmetawy tells Thoth, a devious smile on her face. What the hell is happening? How did we get stuck in the middle of a feud between Gods? ‘Thisss isss my fault Levi. I brought all of thisss on you all when I chossse you asss my hossst.’ Guilt radiates from Damballa’s words. ‘I didn’t think I would grow to care about my hossst. I wasss only going to ussse you asss a meansss for revenge.’Shame fills me from Damballa. ‘It’s okay, Dami.’ I chuckle lightly at my use of Rieka’s term of endearment for him. ‘We can all be selfish at times in our long lives.’ I run my fingers through my hair as the memory of Pompeii flits through my mind. Damballa lets out a laugh. ‘That wasss definitely not your finessst moment.’ He says.‘Is she a threat to Jamari?’ I ask Damballa, unsure whether we can trust the Goddess that just admitted that she knew about me and Damballa. My eyes move from Thoth to Nehmetawy, uncertainty deep
Jamari’s POV Eve looks at us with an evil smirk on her face. “That can be arranged.” She says smugly, signaling to her vampires to attack. The Gods standing beside her let out a sigh before bracing themselves for an attack as well. Kenji leaps in front of me, growling out in warning, daring any creature to step forward and come after me. Rieka stirs within me, preparing herself in case she needs to come out to protect us. The sound of bones snapping draws my attention away from Ren standing in front of me and over to where I last saw Levi. His body conforms as his human appearance transitions into that of Damballa’s, well Damballa’s Demon version. Levi’s frame becomes more slender as he gains a couple extra inches, putting him at almost seven foot. His skin changes to the color red as scales appear all over his body, giving him more armor against physical attacks. A tail burst through the back of his jeans, swirling upwards, going further up than Levi’s head. A menacing growl er
Kenji’s POV “We have been searching this disaster of a library for over twenty minutes.” My voice coming out a bit whiny. I don’t know what is going on with Jamari right now, but I can’t shake this feeling of her being in danger. Thankfully it doesn’t appear that she has suffered through any more attacks since that one. Uncle Luc stops looking through the pile of books in front of him, letting out a heavy sigh. “I never realized just how many of my books are the color green.” He says to me, turning around to face me. He leans against the table behind him, a thoughtful looking gripping his face. Uncle Luc’s eyes roam around the room, eyes focused on the different piles of books spread out around the room. He crosses his arms over his chest, pulling one hand up to rub at his goatee, something he is known for when deep in thought. I set down the book I was looking at and move in his direction. Somehow I don’t think the spell will be in ‘Cooking For Ogres 101’. Not even sure why Unc
Kenji’s POV Without consulting Levi, we both launch ourselves into the horde of Undead that are getting ready to attack us and steal away our mate. I take a step back in my mind, giving Ren control of our body so he can set his savage side loose. We rip through warrior after warrior with our massive teeth and claws, leaving scattered body parts in our wake. Tuning out the chaos going on around us, our only focus is to slaughter as many of the enemy as we can in order to keep them away from our mate. Levi jumps into the madness by our side, slashing and tearing at warriors alongside us. The floor becomes littered with the remnants of our prey within moments of us jumping into their midst. When there are no other enemies standing before us, we turn to look over the battlefield, searching for more enemies to take down. Out of the corner of our eye we see the General of Osiris’s army making his way over to where Jamari stands all alone, his two sickles rising in the air as he slams t
Jamari’s POV “You are in DUAT.” Osiris’s voice grows louder when he says the word Duat. “This is the place where the dead reside.” A cocky smirk appears on his face. “Did you really think that you could take down my army so easily?” Laughter bubbles up from his chest, echoing off of the walls, surrounding us with its evil sound. “I told you we should have handed over the girl Nehma!” Thoth exclaims, fear leaking from his pores, stinking up the space. “We are no match for an army that cannot die.” His eyes widen in horror as more bodies start to rise from the floor, reattching limbs as they come back to life. Levi and Kenji flank me on both sides, a worried look crossing between them as they stare out at the army they had just killed, all coming back to fight once more. “We won’t be able to keep this up forever.” Levi says, his eyes roaming the enemy forces. “Why did you come back?” Nehmetawy asks me suddenly, causing my brows to rise in surprise. Her eyes meet mine, her fear evid
