Chapter 1

"Chloe," I whispered, my voice trembling. "In three days, after the coronation… I need you to detonate a silver bomb."

Her eyes widened in horror.

"Aurora, are you insane? Silver? That's a death sentence!"

I held her terrified gaze. "You have the power to get me out during the blast. To make it look like I vanished without a trace. Everyone will think I'm dead."

“You’re the future Luna of the Black Moon Pack. Alaric's whole world. If you got so much as a paper cut, that madman would tear the North apart. Everyone says the Moon Goddess cursed him with a possessive madness, and you're his only cure."

A cure?

A bitter laugh escaped my lips.

My stomach churned. I fought back the nausea and took a sip of lemonade.

"You said it yourself. That's just what 'everyone says'. He has a child with Rowena."

Chloe's eyes went wide, her face a mask of disbelief. "Even if he cheated, you can't fake your death! You're fated mates! The bond will let him feel that you're still alive!"

I looked at her and gave a broken, mocking smile.

"The mark he gave me was never real."

The air froze between us.

"What?"

"The fated pull between us was real. But the bond… he faked it all with a witch's potion." I pointed to the delicate crescent moon mark on my neck. "Including this."

The color drained from Chloe's face, but she fought to control her shock and came toward me.

"Aurora…" Her voice trembled. "That bastard! No wonder you didn't feel the bond snap when you found out he cheated!"

I nodded. "Now do you get it?"

Chloe clenched her jaw, her eyes blazing with fury. "Alright. I'm in. I'll go get everything ready. Let that son of a bitch think his mate is dead!"

As I watched her leave, I walked alone down the stone path back to the pack house, a wave of heartbreak washing over me.

Three years ago, I was just a rogue.

Worse, I was an Omega.

The bottom of the food chain. Easy prey.

Even after I managed to join a pack, I was given the worst jobs, ordered around by everyone.

Then one night, while gathering moonpetal herbs in the wilderness, I found Alaric. He was injured and unconscious.

The scent of his blood, mixed with the raw power radiating from him, made my inner wolf stir.

Fated mate.

I realized this man, as beautiful as a god, was the mate the Moon Goddess had chosen for me.

I used what little healing talent I had to save him.

The moment he opened his eyes, his golden gaze was filled with surprise, then a burning possessiveness.

"You're mine," he said.

The next day, he brought me back to the pack house and announced he was mating with me.

The entire council of Elders erupted.

"She's just an Omega!"

"Rowena is the perfect choice!"

"This will ruin our bloodline!"

But Alaric's power silenced the entire hall.

"She is the future Luna the Moon Goddess chose for me. Anyone who questions that, questions me."

I had my doubts.

Even as fated mates, the gap between our statuses was massive.

But Alaric's gentle pursuit made me fall for him completely.

He broke off his engagement to Rowena. He showed me every corner of the pack lands, telling me it would all be mine.

To make the pack accept me, he not only conquered three rival territories with brutal force, he also made a blood oath in front of all the Elders.

From that day forward, Omegas of the Black Moon Pack would receive the highest protection.

He abolished the ancient law forbidding Omegas from becoming Luna.

With his own power, he carved a bloody path for me to the Luna's throne.

I remember our mating night. He was so gentle.

"I don't want to hurt you," he whispered, his lips brushing my eyelids. "I promise to make the marking pure pleasure, not pain."

Everyone envied my journey from a nobody Omega to the future Luna.

Until… I found the hidden manor.

Rowena lived there. With her child.

Alaric's child.

My heart shattered. My wolf nearly broke.

But strangely, I never felt the legendary tearing sensation of a betrayed mate bond.

I went to a witch and learned the truth.

The mark was fake.

Our connection had been a lie from the very beginning.

Even though I was ready to leave, when I got back to the pack house, the anger and despair overwhelmed me. I collapsed in the great hall.

When I woke up, I was in our bedroom.

Alaric was sitting by the bed, his eyes full of worry and love.

"Aurora, you're awake." He took my hand. "The healer said you were just exhausted."

I stared at his face.

The face I had fallen for now looked like a stranger's.

I could feel his love for me, but I couldn't understand his betrayal.

He had rejected Rowena for me. When she bullied and tried to poison me, he stabbed her with a silver dagger and exiled her entire family.

And now he had a child with her.

"Why?" A tear slid down my cheek.

Alaric immediately leaned in, gently kissing the tear away.

"Baby, have you been working too hard with pack business?" His voice was thick with concern. "But I have some good news."

He squeezed my hand, his eyes shining with pure joy.

"Aurora, you're pregnant! And in three days, it's my Alpha coronation ceremony!"

"The Moon Goddess has given us an heir, right before my coronation... It's the perfect gift! The whole pack will be ecstatic for you!"

Aurora’s POVThe sea breeze brushed against my face.I stood in the doorway of my small shop, looking out at the endless blue horizon.A year ago, I came to this seaside town in the southern hemisphere, starting over with the new identity Simon had given me.No one here knew my past. No one knew the werewolf world existed.I was just Anya, a quiet perfumer."Anya, we sold out of perfume again today!" my new assistant, Leah, ran over, beaming. "Especially your 'Ocean Whisper.' The customers all say it smells like freedom."I smiled and nodded. The scent of freedom. It was the first perfume I created after arriving here.Sea salt, mint, and a tiny bit of the moonpetal Simon had given me.It really did smell like freedom.Besides making perfumes, I would sometimes, late at night, secretly use my faint healing powers to help the small animals caught in traps. My wolf hadn't died. It just existed in a gentler way now."Oh," Leah added, "the owner of the coffee shop asked if you want to go t

Aurora’s POVI was reading in Simon’s study when there was a soft knock on the door."Come in."Simon entered, his face grim."What is it?" I put my book down. "You look terrible."He sat on the sofa across from me and was silent for a long time."Aurora, I have some news. It's about Alaric."My heart gave a little jump, but I quickly stilled it."What about him? Did he make a fool of himself again?""He's dead."The two words landed with the force of a physical blow, stealing the air from my lungs. It didn't feel real. A name like his wasn't supposed to end in a whisper."When?" I heard my own voice, eerily calm, as if I were asking about a stranger."Last night. At the cliff where you two first met," Simon said softly. "He sent me one last message."He took out his phone and handed it to me.On the screen was a text:Tell her... I'm finally letting her go. Tell her she was the only part of me that was ever real. And tell her not to look for me in the next life. She deserves peace.I

Alaric's POVAfter the disaster at the full moon festival, my blood temporarily stabilized the pup, Lucas.Simon didn't banish me. He just gave me a look of profound disappointment before turning to calm his guests. That look hurt more than any punishment.Rowena clutched the slightly recovered child, hope rekindling in her eyes."Alaric, I knew you wouldn't abandon us…""Enough," I cut her off, my voice cold and empty. "This is the last time."I pulled a document from my jacket and threw it at her feet."What's this?" Rowena asked, confused."A decree of severance," I said, my voice dead flat. "As of this moment, you and that child are nothing to me. Nothing to the Black Moon Pack."Her face went white."You can't do this! Lucas is your blood—""A pawn in your pathetic scheme doesn't deserve my bloodline." I turned away, not wanting to look at her anymore."Alaric!" Rowena shot to her feet. "You can't abandon us! After everything I did for you—""Did for me? Betray Aurora? Use my guil

Aurora’s POVSimon’s car drove through the city streets and finally stopped in front of a magnificent estate."This is my private territory," Simon said, opening the door for me. "You'll be safe here."I stared at the castle-like mansion before me.High walls, imposing guards, and an aura of power in the air strong enough to make any Alpha bow."For how long?" I asked."What?""How long do I have to stay here?"Simon was quiet for a moment. "Until you want to leave."On my seventh day at Simon’s estate, it was the full moon festival, one of the grandest celebrations in the North. All the leaders of the vassal packs and their young heirs came to pay tribute to the Alpha King and display their strength and loyalty. The housekeeper brought me a silver gown that shimmered like moonlight."Miss Anya, the King has invited you to attend tonight's banquet as his guest of honor."I looked at the stranger in the mirror and nodded. The banquet was held at a grand open-air altar, with bonfires rea

Aurora’s POVThe next morning, I woke to the sounds of someone in the kitchen.I pushed open the door and saw Alaric busy at the stove. He was in a simple white t-shirt and black pants, stripped of his usual Alpha authority. He looked like an ordinary man."You're awake," he said, turning around, a flash of joy in his eyes. "I made breakfast."The table was set with perfect food: fresh bread, fried eggs, and blueberry scones, my old favorite."I'm not hungry.""Aurora, you have to eat something. Your wolf is still stabilizing. You're weak."I walked to the table, picked up a plate, and dumped all the food into the trash can.Alaric watched, a flicker of pain crossing his face, but he said nothing."I'll make something else.""Don't bother." I turned to leave."Aurora," he called out. "I know you hate me, but you can't hurt your own body.""What do you care about my body?" I looked at him coldly. "Don't you have Rowena? Go worry about her and your pup."His face went pale."It's over wi

Aurora’s POVAfter I locked the door, I quickly packed up my supplies.Whether Simon recognized me or not, I couldn't stay here.I had to move to another city. I just needed to grab my essentials from my apartment.I wasn't home long before the doorbell rang.My heart hammered against my ribs, but my hands were steady. I walked to the door and looked through the peephole. The hallway was empty.Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, I heard a familiar voice from behind me."Aurora."I spun around.Alaric was standing on my balcony. He'd climbed up eighteen floors.Six months. He was so much thinner. His eyes were sunken, his jaw covered in stubble. But his eyes were the same golden color I remembered, and right now, they were locked on me."How did you get in?""The window." He walked toward me, step by step. "You changed your hair. You've lost weight. But I'd know you anywhere."I backed away until my back hit the wall."This is a human city. You shouldn't be here.""I shoul
