Chapter 3

작가: Frosted Crane Call
I had clenched my right hand into a tight fist without even realizing it.

I had let it slide every time, no matter how blatantly Alissa took Rhys' side. But I never imagined her to humiliate me to this extreme.

A flash of annoyance flashed across Alissa's face. She left her outstretched hand right where it was, showing no intention of backing down.

At this point, even Winifred—someone just watching from beside—sensed something amiss. "What's so great about this watch? Come over to my place tomorrow, Rhys. I'll pick out two watches for you," she said.

Nevertheless, Rhys' face fell. "Didn't we already agree before the games began? Those who couldn't afford to lose were free to opt out of the games."

Alissa jeered, "Stanley, I urged you to head home earlier, didn't I? You were the one who wanted to join in on the games. Like I said, hand it over."

My hands trembled uncontrollably as I took a deep breath and removed my watch.

Alissa tossed it to Rhys without even taking a glance at it. Yet, he simply examined it briefly under the light, then pouted. "Now that I've taken a look at it, it doesn't look spectacular at all."

He callously tossed it onto the table. As it happened, someone knocked against the table, causing a glass of red wine to topple and its contents to spill all over the watch.

I balled my hands into tight fists, feeling like a massive weight was pressing down on my chest.

That feeling of suffocation continued until Rhys urged loudly, "Keep it moving! Why has everyone frozen stiff?"

In the third game, I rolled a total of seven, which was a pretty average score.

Rhys rolled a nine, and to my surprise, Alissa rolled a total of two points—the lowest possible roll. Rhys stifled a laugh. "Such bad luck, darling."

Alissa disregarded him, somberly reaching for her penalty drink. Nonetheless, Rhys beat her to it. He caught her hand, downing her glass of alcohol on her behalf. He even gave her a playful wink and said, "All done. We're together as one tonight, aren't we?"

As I listened to everyone's cheers, I became increasingly numb. Over the next few rounds, I seemed to always be hovering on the edge of the cliff.

I downed one glass after another until I'd lost almost every accessory I had on me. I even lost the car I drove today to Rhys.

I threw the keys down. My face was heavily flushed by now, and my vision was starting to blur. There was even a subtle shake in my hands as I held the dice cup.

To those watching, I was clearly showing signs of someone who was getting carried away.

The next round began, and as the dealer, Winifred called the rules. "Basic high-low is boring. Let's mix it up this round. We'll bet on the totals. Those who feel like they're able to roll a total of eight or higher can double down on their bets.

"We're upgrading the pot, too. It's getting boring just playing for chump change."

Rhys responded immediately, "I'm in! I'll put up my luxury boutique in Westown!"

He had several businesses under his name, and this boutique shop was one of them. It was worth quite a good sum.

That caused an uproar around the table, and everyone began to up their bets.

Alissa shot me a look and said emotionlessly, "I'm in too. I'll put up the yacht under my name, The Stalissa."

This yacht was worth a few million dollars. But more importantly, it was named after both of us.

Now, the pressure was on my side. Everyone had their eyes on me.

In the end, Alissa couldn't help but urge, "Stan, enough is enough. You may leave now."

Rhys burst out laughing immediately. "Alissa, you don't have to play if you can't handle the consequences. Who knows? Mr. Fisher might just be on a roll."

As if provoked by his words, I turned abruptly toward Alissa and said, "I'm in too! I'm putting up… my apartment at Shoreline Bay!"

The moment I said those words, even Alissa was stupefied.

I had bought that apartment with my own hard-earned money the year I graduated from college. It was in a prime location, and its market price was way higher than Rhys' boutique's.

Once again, the dice cups were lifted.

Rhys was first to lift his dice cup, scoring a total of nine points. He raised a brow with glee. As for Alissa, she rolled a total of seven.

Instinctively, I took a deep breath, my hands a little shaky as I held onto the dice cup. I lifted the cup, revealing a three and a five. That came to a total of eight.

I had lost the game by just a hair.

I slumped back onto the couch, hearing Rhys's shout of joy by my ear. He leaned in close to me, whispering in a voice so soft that only both of us could hear, "How does it feel like to lose? I want everything you have."

I lifted my head, my face completely flushed crimson red because of the alcohol. Even so, my gaze remained bright.

"One more round," I said.

The very last time I saw Alissa and Rhys was at a charity dinner. That was the very first time—since the night at the bar—when I stepped out in public. The moment I stepped into the hall, everyone turned their attention toward me. There were gazes of sympathy, curiosity, scrutiny, and admiration.I took in everyone's stares with complete composure, keeping my back straight the entire time. Then, Alissa practically tore through the crowd, rushing straight up to me. She had gotten even thinner, her bloodshot eyes filled with immense exhaustion."Stan… Can we just have a chat? I'm sorry. I really am. Rhys and I have signed our divorce papers. That day was just a ridiculous joke…"I stared at her calmly, the same way I would if she were a stranger. "I believe I have been very clear in our last conversation. Also, there's no need for you to update me about your marriage status with Mr. Pritchard."Instantly, her face paled. There was a tremor in her lips, and she was completely spe

All color had drained from Alissa's face. She stammered, unable to say a word."Each time you forgot our plans and cast me to the periphery because of him, or when you stood by while he taunted and humiliated my feelings, you were perfectly sober. "When you allowed him to hold you and put his arms around your waist, and when you said he was your husband for the night, you knew exactly what you were doing too."When you sided with him as he forced me to remove the watch my grandfather left for me, and when you watched on as all that red wine was spilled all over it… You were more sober than you had ever been in your life!"Although I hadn't raised my voice, Alissa suddenly lowered her head and buried her hands in her hair. She let out a whimper like a trapped animal. "Stop talking, Stan… Please… Just stop…" Her shoulders shook violently, as if she were about to burst into tears. "I was wrong… I'm the most horrible person in the world. I didn't know… I didn't know I did so man

Alissa spent a few consecutive days trying to get in touch with me. After realizing that she couldn't reach me over calls or text messages, she began to camp out at the bottom of my apartment all day and night.Through my apartment's entrance video intercom, I could clearly see her standing in the freezing wind. Her hair, usually meticulously styled by professionals, was now disheveled. Her expensive dress was also now a wrinkled mess. She made a few attempts to force her way into the building, but she was thrown out by the security guards downstairs every time.It went on like this until the building management finally called me, sounding rather apologetic."Mr. Fisher, she… she simply refuses to leave. There's really nothing else we can do."I let out a sigh. In the end, I relented and agreed to meet with her. After all, I had to put an end to this drama personally.I wrapped my coat around me and met with Alissa at the apartment lobby. Though only a few days had passed, she h

Outside the window, the city lights had just turned on.I wrapped my coat tighter around myself as I looked down at the night scenery that this city had to offer. I had renovated this apartment only because Alissa had a fondness for these massive floor-to-ceiling windows.I had genuinely wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. But it was just such a pity.Behind me, the muffled murmurs between my attorney and assistant blended with the rustle of flipping pages. After a while, they approached me. "Mr. Fisher, the preliminary ownership change for The Stalissa, the yacht under Ms. Coleman's name, the three commercial properties on the east side of the city, and five percent of Coleman Group's floating stock have been completed."Mr. Pritchard's assets are also being inventoried as we speak. Everything should be fully settled by this afternoon." I hummed an acknowledgement and didn't look back. The Stalissa once symbolized a sweet romance. But now, the yacht, the assets that

Lying under the dice cup were not just two dice, but three. There were two sixes in bright red dots, just like the maximum roll that Alissa achieved earlier. But there was another die, one showing a singular, bright red dot. They claimed victory over me with this singular dot earlier. At this moment, I had used this singular dot back on them. The three dice came to a total of 13."Th-Three dice?"Winifred was the first to exclaim in shock, her eyes almost popping out of her sockets. "H-How could there be three dice in the dice cup?"I let out an involuntary scoff. As long as the technique and force were right, I could break a die in two with much ease. That was how I ended up with this roll that added up to 13 points. At this moment, my eyes were bright and clear. Even though my cheeks were still flushed, I behaved exactly like a sober man would."I rolled a total of 13. A bet is a bet. You both have lost." Since the moment I sat down here, I never once considered turning

The moment the floodgates of gambling were flung open, they were nearly impossible to close.Soon enough, the stakes in the next few games evolved into more tangible assets. At times, I lost some of my relatively insignificant shares or minor investments. At other times, I was lucky enough to win some of them back.I behaved exactly like a typical gambler who was losing his mind. When I lost, all color drained from my face, and when I won, I was wildly ecstatic. The thrill of alcohol and gambling games made me appear somewhat out of control. On a few occasions, Alissa attempted to stop me. However, she was always held back. The frown on her face deepened. I couldn't help but laugh bitterly at myself. To Alissa, I was probably just acting out recklessly. Perhaps she was waiting for me to return to her side as I always did, ready to be at her beck and call. The dice-rolling game seemed to have become a miniature battlefield. When I pulled off yet another insanely-close win, seizing
