Chapter 6

Author: Lynette Woods
Hearing the shouts outside, I shot up in bed.

"Aliya, don't worry about what's happening outside. How are your eyes? Do they still hurt?" Mom quickly pressed a hand against my shoulder, holding me in place.

"Healer Francis just told us that after changing your dressing, you need plenty of rest, especially over the next few months. Keep water out of your eyes, and absolutely no more injuries!"

"You don't need to stress over anything else. Your mom and I are right here. We won't let anyone hurt

I tried moving my hands, only to find myself tied firmly to a chair."You're finally awake." Connor's voice drifted over from a corner. The cloth sack over my head was yanked off. I narrowed my eyes to adjust to the light. He stood before me, unkempt with a scrawny beard and sunken eye sockets.I yelled, "Connor, have you lost your mind? Do you have any idea what happens to someone who kidnaps a werewolf princess?""Aliya, there's no turning back for me now!"Connor leaned closer to me, his expression twisted. "This is all because of you! If you had just taken the fall, I wouldn't have ended up like this, and Mandy wouldn't have died!"The door was kicked open with a loud slam, and over a dozen enforcers flooded into the room. The enforcer captain leveled a tranquilizer gun and fired a swift shot right into Connor. The latter collapsed to the ground, staring at the captain and me in utter disbelief."H-How did you…""How did they find this place?" I stood up and rolled my wr

Three hours later, Valeria ran in to tell me that Connor was kneeling outside the palace, begging for a moment with me.I simply turned over in bed. Valeria caught my drift instantly and had the guards drive off Connor, who was clinging to the fence and screaming like a madman.Mom and Dad rushed back the moment they got the news to stay by my side.Kyle informed me that thanks to my strong constitution, my wounds were healing remarkably fast, and I could undergo the cornea transplant in three days to regain my sight.Three days later, the surgery went smoothly. When it came time to remove the gauze, even Kyle was noticeably tense. "Open your eyes slowly. Take your time. Let them adjust…"A blurry light slowly seeped into the back of my eyes. It stung slightly at first, then gradually sharpened into focus.I saw Valeria's eyes, which were red from crying. I saw the beads of sweat on Kyle's forehead, and I saw the open sky outside the window.I could see everything again!Mom h

Jimmy paused for a moment before pulling up the evidence to show me."Connor just submitted a new audio recording to the enforcers as well. I take it that's why you summoned me?"I bit my lip and nodded. "How much time do I have?"Jimmy fell silent for a beat. "The enforcers have applied for an arrest warrant. They're expected to arrive at the medical center first thing tomorrow morning."I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm. "Please investigate the real identity of that middle-aged shewolf the enforcers caught at the palace. See who she's closest to among those visiting wolves."Also, check every single memory crystal at my residence. Look for any traces or scents of dark magic, and try your best to restore the original footage inside."Jimmy agreed without hesitation. His hurried footsteps quickly faded away.I leaned back against the headboard, my fingers lightly tracing the edge of the frame as I racked my brain for anything else I could do.Late that night, Ji

Though locked in pitch-black darkness, I could still clearly smell Connor's nauseating scent."Connor, have you lost your mind?"I spoke calmly, not in the least intimidated by his presence. "First, our engagement is over."Second, those privileges were gifts from my father solely because of our engagement. Now that it's broken off, isn't it only natural to revoke them? Third…"I turned toward his direction and let out a smirk. "We are long finished. Where do you get the nerve to show your face in front of me again?"Connor choked on his words. His fists clenched so hard his knuckles popped."Aliya Blair, don't think for a second I won't lay a hand on you! You're nothing but a blind shewolf now. What gives you the right to act so arrogant with me?"I let out a soft laugh. "Connor, do you really think I made a name for myself on the Hunt Festival leaderboard purely because of my eyesight? Believe me, even without my eyes, I can still rip your throat out right now."Connor sudden

I continued, "I regret not listening to you sooner and staying away from Connor. I even made you go through so much because of me…"Mom froze in surprise, but after a brief pause, she wrapped her arms around me tightly. "Good. Breaking it off is for the best. With your father and me here, no one will ever dare bully you."Just then, a knock echoed at the door, followed by an enforcer's voice outside."Alpha King, Luna Queen, the enforcer captain requests a moment with you."Dad frowned, exchanging a quick glance with Mom. "What is it?""The captain found the Crescent Bow buried in the flower beds of the palace rear garden."I shot straight up in bed. "The Crescent Bow?""Yes. It was wrapped tight in a cloth, completely stained with blood."Mom squeezed my hand gently."A healer verified the blood type," the enforcer added. "It matches the slain Luna."Dad let out a cold sneer. "How wonderful. After framing my daughter, they actually had the nerve to stash the murder weapon on

We won't let anyone hurt you again, and those who spread the rumors will pay for every word!"It was Dad's voice.I raised my head, trying to turn toward the sound, but a pair of rough, large hands gently cupped mine the very next second."Mom, Dad, I'm really okay. It's no big deal. They were just misled and didn't know the truth.""Didn't know the truth? They certainly looked like they knew plenty when they were surrounding you and throwing insults!"Dad's voice suddenly rose, filled with anger. "Especially Conn
