Ethan Oliver Harrison's POV

“What are you staring at?” Daniel asked, trying to see what I was looking at.

I furrowed my brows, feigning ignorance. “Staring? Who is staring? I wasn't staring,” I replied and quickly looked away.

Daniel looked unconvinced, but he shrugged, and we went to join our other teammates.

Roger’s eyes were red, and he looked like he hadn't slept. Coach Marshall stood by his side, but he looked more relaxed.

“Is Marshall aware of your parents' plan? He looks too peaceful,”

Daniel's POVOur trip back to Canada was quiet for a while. We both had things occupying our minds. And although Carl didn't say it, I knew he was worried about Ethan's health, and Kane's acceptance.“Do you think he has woken up?” Carl finally asked.I glanced over at him from the driver’s seat, the highway lights streaking across his tense face. His fingers drummed restlessly on his knee, a habit he only fell into when he was trying not to fall apart.“I hope so,” I said quietly, keeping my voice steady for his sake. “The doctors said the surgery went well. If there were any complications, someone would’ve called by now.”Carl let out a breath that sounded too close to a sigh of relief.“You think Kane’s still there?” he asked after another stretch of silence.“Definitely.” I switched lanes, the tires humming steadily beneath us. “He hasn’t left Ethan’s side since we got the call. You know how he is. I mean he's like a brother to you after all.”That did the trick, and the smile on

  • Hockey Rivalry: Bed first, game later    Father or boyfriend?

Kane Hau Alexander's POVHave you ever felt caged? Like you are trapped inside a complex box with walls that keep shifting. You know the way out is right there, you can see the exit, but the more you struggle and push against it, the tighter everything closes in around you. That was exactly how I felt standing beside Ethan’s hospital bed, watching the monitor beep steadily beside him. I wanted to scream at him. I wanted to grab his shoulders and tell him straight that he was not going back to Canada, not stepping foot on any ice rink, and definitely not playing in that damn championship. I wanted to remind him that I had stepped up as his acting guardian while Catherine recovered, and it was my responsibility to keep him safe, even when he fought me like a wild animal. But I did not say any of that.I stayed quiet, my hands clenched at my sides, because when I looked at him lying there in that white hospital gown with the IV line taped to his arm, I did not see someone I could control

  • Hockey Rivalry: Bed first, game later    Who are you, mister?

Ethan Oliver Harrison's POVMy eyes fluttered open slowly, heavy like they had been glued shut for days. I stretched my arms out with a groan, then yanked them back when the movement pulled at something in my hand. The bed felt surprisingly comfortable, with soft sheets and a pillow that actually supported my neck. For a second, I just lay there, blinking at the ceiling. I had slept better than I had in months. No tossing, no waking up every hour with my mind racing. I had the most ridiculous dream too, something about being in a hospital.A small smile tugged at my lips. *Fuck. I'm late for training.* Today was the day I was supposed to fully resume with Team Canada. The thought sent a rush of energy through me. I sat up quickly, swinging my legs over the side of the bed, a bright grin spreading across my face. Then I paused. What was that beeping sound? Why did the room smell like antiseptic and plastic instead of the usual faint sunflowers and coffee from my kitchen? And why was

Kane Hau Alexander's POVThe doctor cleared his throat and leaned back in his chair, the papers on his desk rustling slightly. I stood there, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, trying to brace myself for whatever he was about to say.“We ran several tests and scans on Mr. Ethan,” the doctor began carefully. “We discovered he has been suffering from long-term insomnia, a gastrointestinal ulcer, and a severely damaged appendix. We performed an emergency appendectomy to remove the appendix. The ulcer and insomnia cannot be fixed surgically, but they can be managed with proper medication, diet, rest, and therapy if he commits to it over time.”I felt the blood drain from my face. “He has all that… and he never once complained about pain?” My voice came out shaky. My hands dropped to my sides, and for a second I thought my legs might give out. I had to grip the back of the chair to steady myself. The doctor nodded sympathetically. “From his build and physical condition, it is clear he

Kane Hau Alexander's POV*IN THIS IS CHAPTER, KANE WILL REFER TO CARL'S AUNT AS HIS.*“Carl…?” I froze in place, the words dying in my throat. Seeing him standing there in the doorway, oil still staining his clothes, eyes wide with betrayal, hit me harder than I expected. I had spent so long trying to protect him from this exact moment, and now it was crumbling right in front of me.“You have hidden so much from me?” Carl’s voice cracked, raw and broken. “Why? You claimed you loved me like a brother, so why did you lie to me all this time?”I opened my mouth, searching for the right words, but nothing felt adequate. To be honest, I had never imagined Carl finding out like this, overhearing the worst of it in a kitchen filled with the smell of spilled oil and chicken soup. “I am so sorry,” I started, stepping closer. “But I never meant to hurt you. It was not my secret to tell. I was trying to—”Before I could finish, Daniel burst into the kitchen, breathing hard. He nearly slipped on

Carl Kōnoshima Akihiko's POVWe landed in New York late in the afternoon, around five thirty. The sky had started to darken with thick clouds gathering overhead, threatening rain any minute. The flight attendant kept assuring everyone that the weather would clear up soon, but I was not so sure. Daniel, on the other hand, seemed to be having the time of his life despite the long journey. Gamma, my sister, had taken it upon herself to keep him entertained the entire flight. She told him all kinds of stories, including some she had sworn to me years ago that she would take to her grave. I could only shake my head and smile as Daniel laughed at her wild tales. We had not told my aunt we were coming. The whole plan was to surprise her. When we finally pulled up to her duplex, I parked the car in the garage and cut the engine. Music drifted out from inside the house, lively and warm. My aunt might not be swimming in money like Kane's side of the family, but she was comfortable. Before my

Carl’s POVI watched Daniel storm out of the house like he was escaping from a fire. The front door slammed so hard behind him that even from across the driveway, I felt the vibration through the side of my car. Daniel’s POV“...A housewarming party?” my father repeated slowly. The knife in his hand stopped mid-air.
