Zayden’s POV

The morning air felt heavier than usual, pressing down against the glass walls of my office. I’d been staring at the same document for fifteen minutes, the words blurring together, refusing to make sense. My coffee had gone cold. My patience, thinner than paper.

The problem wasn’t the report.

It was her.

Rielle.

She’d come in earlier than usual today, silent and professional as ever. Her greeting was polite, distant — too distant. The same woman who once couldn’t look at me without her eyes softening now spoke to me like a stranger.

“Good morning, Mr. Wolfe,” she’d said when she entered my office earlier.

I hated the sound of it on her lips.

She’d placed a few folders on my desk, her gaze never lifting to meet mine. The faint scent of her perfume still lingered in the air long after she left, torturing me more than any unfinished deal could.
