~~Kate~~

“Welcome to the Reid’s!”

Yssa exclaims as she grins from ear to ear. She spread her arms, showing their huge front door. We’ve been friends for almost two years and this is the first time I came over. Yssa’s the one who always comes to visit me and spends sleepovers at my place.

“So, what do you think? Isn’t it nice that you’re finally able to come over?” She holds my hand and leads the way inside. “It’s been a while since we have a visitor. Even Dad was surprised when I told him my best friend's going to spend the holiday with us,” she chuckles.

I can’t help but smile as I watch my friend laugh. Yssa’s always laughing when we’re together, but seeing her so cheerful now feels different. I heard she grew up without a mother and is living with her dad all this time. She sometimes mentioned about not wanting to hang out in the house when we have no classes or plans to go out.

Yssa’s not saying anything, but perhaps there are memories in this house that makes her sad. So, seeing her so cheerful puts my heart at ease.

“Thanks for inviting me,” I say, smiling back at her.

Yssa stares at me briefly before nudging me with her elbow. “Don’t mention it. It’s me who should be thankful that you agree to join us. I’m no longer going to spend holidays with just my Dad.”

My eyebrows slightly meet. “Why? Aren’t you close with your Dad?”

Yssa shrugs. “We’re okay, but you know. Sometimes I also want someone else to talk with in this house… There are things I can’t exactly talk about with my dad,” she sighs. “Anyways! Let me show you the guest room. I told Amando to prepare the largest one for my best frien,” Yssa squeals and drags me to the stairs.

“H-Hey! Slow down, Yssa,” I puff, catching my breath as I clutch my chest.

“No way. You promise to help me make some dessert for dinner. We should hurry or we won’t be able to finish it on time,” she retorts and keeps dragging me along upstairs.

Before I can protest, Yssa already pulls me down the hallway. In no time, we stumbled in the guest room where I’ll be staying.

“Woah,” I look around, appreciating the room Yssa prepared for me. “This is nice. Thank you,” I smile, loving the delicate arrangement in the bedroom.

“I know you’ll like it. I ask Amando to try imitating the vibe you have in your room so you’ll feel comfortable while staying over,” Yssa says, beaming at me.

I feel a surge of warmth filling my chest, and it’s nice.

**************************

“Ah, finally! I can’t believe it’s this hard to make gingerbread cookies,” Yssa sighs, wiping off the sugar on her apron.

We’ve been in the kitchen for hours and just barely made a dozen edible cookies. “We did good for our first time, though we need more practice,” I say, patting the floor off my face.

We failed several times and ended up making a mess in the kitchen. Armando, Yssa’s housekeeper looked more frustrated than we were while watching us. His arms crossed with his eyebrows knitted as he stood in the corner, probably debating whether to step in or stop us from what we’re doing.

“I can’t say you were good at all,” Armando protests, shaking his head. I can already guess what he has in mind. Well, he’s been very patient.

We only managed to get a hang of it and successfully made a proper cookie. Thanks to Armando’s guidance, we finished our baking session. Though by the time we’re done, thick flour clung to our hair and sugar dusted our clothes, leaving us no choice but to laugh at the mess after tasting the cookies that somewhat succeeded.

“It’s almost time for dinner. You should get ready before the Master arrives,” Armando says, checking the time on the wall clock. “Go ahead and do your thing. I’ll clean up.”

“Ugh! It’s sticky. I’m gonna get a shower,” Yssa says, taking off her apron.

I did the same and turned to Armando with an apologetic look. “I’ll go too. Are you sure you can do this alone?” I ask him, guilty.

Armando nods and smiles. “Don’t worry. Besides, I can’t let the guests do my job.”

I smile back and head upstairs to my room. I step out of my clothes as soon as I get in the bathroom. Humming, I turn on the light and the shower. The warm water feels so nice I can’t help closing my eyes and relaxing while massaging my scalp with shampoo.

It feels so good and didn’t occur to me that when I finally open my eyes, I’ll be welcomed by a pair of round, unblinking eyes staring back at me. Clinging to the tiled wall just above the showerhead is probably the biggest house lizard I ever seen in my life.

“A-Aaaaaaaaaahhh—” My screams are cut off when I cover my mouth the moment I realize the lizard may jump into it. With my helplessly shaking legs, I take a step back, not taking my eyes off its tiny frame.

“H-Hik!” I stumble by the bathroom door, still having a staring contest at the lizard. I crawl away, and the moment it moves, I get up faster than I could imagine and sprint out of the room, naked.

“H-Help…” I scream, voiceless. As much as I want to yell, no voice comes out of my mouth. My chest tightens as I stumble forward, colliding with something hard.

“Ouch,” I groan, rubbing my nose. I lift my head slowly and freeze. Towerering over me is a man I don’t recognize.

His expression is unreadable as his gaze sweeps over me from head to toe. His eyebrows furrow when his eyes meet mine.

“Who are you?” His deep voice echoes through my head, sending electric waves in my nerves.

~Kate~His words didn’t land like normal words. They didn’t sit politely in my ears and wait to be processed like language usually does.No. They went straight through me. Clean. Unfiltered. Dangerous.“You really thought I would let you move on that easily?”My breath caught so fast it almost embarrassed me, like my body reacted before I had the chance to remind it who was supposed to be in control here.Nathan sat across from me like he hadn’t just tilted my entire world with one calm sentence, like he hadn’t just reached into my chest and stirred something I had been working very hard to bury. The rooftop breeze brushed past my skin but it did nothing to cool the sudden heat rising in me, and I hated how quickly my mind tried to act innocent when my body clearly refused to cooperate.I forced a small laugh, because that was what people did when they wanted to pretend they were fine.“I didn’t know there was anything to move on from,” I said, and even I could hear how fake that soun

  • Ruin Me Slowly, Daddy~~   Fifty six

~Kate~If someone had told me three weeks ago that I would willingly enter a car with Nathan Reid again after everything that happened between us, I would have laughed directly in their face and probably quoted three bible verses immediately after. But life apparently enjoyed humiliating me.Because there I was.Sitting in the backseat of a black SUV beside Yssa while the literal source of my current emotional instability drove us through the city like nothing had happened.Like he did not almost ruin my sanity during Christmas.Like I did not spend the past two weeks trying to convince myself I was over him.Like he did not completely destroy the peace I had finally started rebuilding the moment he walked into that restaurant. And worst of all…He looked good.Too good.Annoyingly good.It should actually be illegal for one man to look that calm after causing this much psychological damage.“Daddy, if you are trying to buy my love back, just know it is working,” Yssa announced dramat

~~Nathan~~Two weeks. That was how long I stayed away, like distance alone could fix something that had already gone too far, like putting miles between us would somehow quiet what she had already stirred inside me, but the truth was ugly and simple, and I was done pretending otherwise. It didn’t work. Not even a little.Because no matter where I went, no matter who I surrounded myself with, no matter how busy I kept my schedule or how many distractions I forced into my life, she followed me.Not physically. That would have been easier. She stayed in my head.In my thoughts. In the way my body reacted at the most inconvenient times, in the way her face would show up uninvited, clear as day, like she had every right to be there. It was frustrating.Annoying.And worse part of all this shit was seeing her face when I was fucking another, I even moaned her name, I fucking called another woman her name, this shit was insane. Only the thought of her made me hard, others don’t even arose me

~~Kate~~“Maybe.”That was the last thing I said before everything shifted in a way I did not see coming, because one second I was sitting across from Daniel, smiling, relaxed, letting myself enjoy something simple and calm for the first time in what felt like forever, and the next second I heard a voice that did not belong in this moment, a voice I knew too well, a voice my body recognized before my mind could even process what was happening. My fingers tightened slightly around the glass in my hand as my entire body went still, like something inside me had just pressed pause without asking for permission, and for a brief second I told myself I was imagining it, because there was no way he was here, no way he could just appear in the middle of my night like this, no way the one person I had worked so hard to push out of my head would show up right when I was finally starting to feel normal again.“Kate?” Daniel called softly, his voice pulling at my attention, and I turned back to hi

  • Ruin Me Slowly, Daddy~~   Fifty three

~~Kate~~“You look beautiful,” my blind date said the moment I stepped out, his voice smooth, warm, and confident in a way that didn’t feel forced, and for a second, I just stood there, blinking at him like my brain needed a moment to catch up with what was happening.Because wow.My mother did not come to play.“You don’t look bad yourself,” I responded, my lips curving slightly despite myself as I took him in properly, and I hated how accurate my words were because “not bad” was actually an understatement.Daniel was… composed. That was the first thing that came to my mind. Not just good looking, because yes, he was that too, tall, clean, well put together like he stepped out of one of those “perfect son-in-law” conversations mothers love to have, but there was something else.Something calm.Something steady.Something that didn’t make me feel like I was about to make a bad decision. And that alone felt… new.“Pardon my manners, I’m Daniel,” he said, extending his hand toward me, h

~~Kate~~Her excitement was so loud it should have come with a warning sign, like caution, chaos ahead, because the way she grabbed my arm and started jumping like I had just announced free money instead of a blind date made me question every decision that led me to this moment.“Oh my God, we need to prepare,” she said, already dragging me again like I didn’t have legs of my own, like I was just an accessory she could carry around when needed, “this is serious, Kate, this is your first official grown woman date, we cannot let you show up looking like you’re going to a group discussion.”I blinked slowly.“First of all,” I said, trying to keep up with her pace, “I have gone on dates before.”She stopped so abruptly I almost walked into her back. Then she turned. And gave me a look. Not just any look.A look that said she was about to disrespect my entire dating history.“Those don’t count because you I practically dragged you to those date,” she said flatly. My jaw dropped.“Excuse me
