MARIELLE

I cursed my own existence as the clock mocked me: 8:19. Vera had already come and gone to grab me for breakfast, but I had slept through my alarms like a corpse. Panicked, I gave my hair a frantic brush and snatched my phone, bolting out of the room.

I was going to be slaughtered by my professors today. I was halfway to the stairs when the realization hit me like a physical blow. I’d left my wallet on the nightstand.

….Dumbass….

I spun around in a blur of motion, but my momentum was too much for the polished floor. My feet slid out from under me. I felt the sickening drop of gravity, my hands clawing at the air for the railing, but they found nothing but empty space.

The world tilted.

My back slammed into the edge of a step, the air rushing out of my lungs in a violent wheeze. Then, the back of my head connected with the wood with a dull, sickening thud. My body became a dead weight, rolling down the flight like a ragdoll.

I heard screams..distant, distorted…calling my name, but they felt miles away.

Suddenly, the tumbling stopped. Strong arms hooked under my shoulders, pulling me upward to keep my head from another impact. Sharp, white-hot pain radiated through every nerve ending, but the throbbing at the base of my skull was the loudest.

"Marielle!"

The voice was a roar of pure, unfiltered concern. I knew it instantly. Cassius. I tried to open my eyes, but the world was a smeared mess of colors and shadows.

"Call the fucking doctor!"

He growled at the order, and then I felt myself being lifted. My head fell naturally against the steady beat of his heart. I heard the frantic shuffling of the family, the murmurs of panic, but Cassius was already moving, carrying me back up the stairs.

The pain reached a crescendo, a blinding light behind my eyelids, and the darkness finally pulled me under.

CASSIUS

I kicked her bedroom door open, the wood hitting the stopper with a bang as I rushed to lay her on the bed. Victoria and Giselle were hot on my heels, their faces pale with terror.

"Baby," Giselle whispered, reaching out to touch Marielle’s hand. Giselle had always been the heart of this family, sensitive and nurturing, and she loved Marielle with a ferocity that rivaled a mother's.

Victoria moved to the other side, her hand hovering over Marielle’s forehead. "My poor baby," she choked out.

"The doctor is here," Caleb announced from the doorway.

I stepped back, my chest heaving, to give the man space. Enzo must have briefed him on the way up, because he went straight to work without a word. I watched him examine her, my fists clenched so tight my knuckles turned white.

The thought of losing her... it made my skin crawl. I couldn't do this again. I couldn't watch someone I cared for slip away. Fernando's death was a wound that hadn't finished healing, and seeing Marielle unmoving on these sheets was pulling the stitches out.

"Her head has been injured," the doctor finally said, standing up. "It’s not a deep laceration, but the brain is sensitive.

The impact caused a concussion. She’ll likely be unconscious for a while, but the medication should manage the swelling.”He handed the prescription to Giselle. I gave him a curt nod as he left, my eyes never leaving Marielle’s pale face.

"I’ve told her to be careful, but she never listens," Victoria sighed, wiping a stray tear.

I didn't stay to hear the rest. The anger was bubbling up, hot and oily. I walked out of the room, pulled out my phone, and dialed my assistant.

"Cancel all my meetings," I snapped. "All of them."

I walked into my office and ripped off my blazer, tossing it onto the leather chair. I closed my eyes, trying to force the image of her falling out of my mind.

"Calm down, Cassius."

Enzo was standing in the doorway, his face a mask of cold professionalism.

"She got hurt in her own damn house, Enzo."

"It was her own mistake," he countered.

I glared at him, my eyes burning with a rage I couldn't fully explain. Mistake or not, the sight of her broken on those stairs had done something to me.

"You can't just cancel your entire day for her," Enzo continued, stepping into the room.

"She is your best friend’s daughter. I get it- you’re her protector. But Cassius Marchetti doesn't cancel the business of the empire because a girl tripped. This isn't the man I've known since we were kids."

"She is important," I gritted out, my jaw aching from the tension.

"Important, yes. But not special... is she?"

I scrunched my brows, the word tasting like lead in my mouth. "Special?"

"Don't make her special, Cassius. Control yourself. The doctor said she’s fine. Stop pacing around like a fucking lover."

"There is nothing like that! I just can't afford to lose her!"

"Will you let her walk away from you, then?"

The question stopped me dead. The thought of her walking away.. of her belonging to someone else, of her leaving this house..felt just as lethal as the thought of her dying.

Enzo actually smiled, a small, knowing thing that made me want to hit him.

"You’ve always been restless when it comes to her. You can't lose her, and you can't bear the thought of her leaving. It all points to one thing.”

"Shut up!" I growled, the sound echoing off the office walls.

"She is family! My best friend’s daughter! That is all!"

"Then make that clear to her," Enzo challenged, his voice rising to match mine.

"You’ve been intimate twice now. Mistakes happen once, Cassius. Twice is a choice. Get it through her…if it happens again, you’re going to lose a lot more than just a meeting.”

MARIELLE I looked at myself in the mirror, barely recognizing the girl staring back. It had been a few days since the world went dark. My hair was tied up in a messy, loose braid, and I was dressed in a plain white shirt and grey sweatpants- a ghost of the girl who used to wear silk and lace.My eyes fell on the white bandage wrapped thick around my wrist. I stared at it, the memory of the sharp glass cutting through my skin feeling like a dream. I was never suicidal, but …he… had driven me to that edge. He didn't care about me at all…it was written in the silence of the last few days. He hadn’t even come to check on me.Was I really that desperate to marry a man who was committed to someone else? My heart ached, a dull, thumping reminder that he wasn't mine. But why was I even sad? He was never mine. Never from the beginning.I looked at my empty hands. No matter how much you try, if it's not yours, it's not. A faint knock on the door pulled me from the abyss.“Marielle.”I looked up

CASSIUS I clenched my fists in anger. So mad.The dim light in the room cast long, jagged shadows on the walls as I paced like a caged animal, my breaths coming in ragged, heavy bursts. My nostrils flared and my jaw was set so tight it felt like the bone might snap. A storm of emotions twisted my features into a mask of pure fury and despair.I roared, a sound torn from the depths of my lungs, and slammed my fist against the cold, unyielding wall. The dull thud echoed through the quiet space, followed by the sharp, immediate sting in my knuckles. Blood began to trickle down, staining my hand, but I didn’t seem to notice- or care.My mind was a chaotic loop of Marielle. Marielle is fighting for her life. Marielle went limp in my arms. The memory made my entire frame shake.“Why did she do it?” I shouted, my voice hoarse and trembling with both anger and anguish.Enzo stood a few steps away. His face was pale but calm, though his eyes were clouded with deep concern. He reached out a ha

MARIELLE"You should have told us beforehand about your decision, Cassius," Lorenzo said, the sound of silverware against porcelain punctuating his words. We were sitting at the long dining table for lunch. I clenched my fists in my lap, the fabric of my dress wrinkling under the pressure. Vera shot me a stern, warning look before quickly focusing back on her plate."I wanted it to be a surprise," Cassius replied coolly.Valentina smiled warmly at her son. "Cassius. I am so happy. Finally, you have decided to be happy."Hearing those words, finally happy, felt like a jagged blade twisting in my gut. I struggled to breathe, my gaze rising slowly until it crashed into Enzo's.He was watching me. I looked away instantly, heat crawling up my neck. He knew. He knew what I'd done in that bathroom, what I'd begged for, and yet he still looked at me with that protective, brotherly affection."How do you know Isabella?" Isobel asked. My ears perked up. I needed to know. I needed to hear the co

CASSIUS I could feel every ounce of that attraction, that primal lust, rushing back into me like a tidal wave. My veins throbbed with the need to feel her, to make her utterly desperate for me.I watched as her juices dripped down her thighs, her perfect ass bent over in front of me, giving me a full view of that cake. She had finished cumming, her breath coming in ragged gasps, and her hands scurried for her dress. I caught her arm, stopping her cold.“Stop.”My voice was gruffer than I intended. ..Fuck… I needed to stay away from her, but something always brought me back. She was what I needed; she was what I craved.“I-I... YOU-”She stuttered, looking at me through the mirror. I stepped closer, my hardened bulge coming in direct contact with her ass. She gasped, her eyes widening.“What were you doing?” I asked, watching her body tremble under my gaze. I loved the effect I had on her.“It’s not that-”“Are you sure about that, sweetheart?”I lowered my gaze to her bare waist, tha

  • Ruined By Daddy   Chapter 21: Caught Finger-Fucking

MARIELLE I sat on the velvet couch, the condensation from my lemonade glass chilling my palm as the slow, rhythmic beat of the music pulsed through the hall. Cassius had spared no expense on this venue, yet the purpose of the party remained a mystery, a heavy secret hanging in the air alongside the scent of expensive perfume and aged bourbon.Everyone was drifting through the crowd like ghosts in designer silk. Vera had vanished with her mother to play the part of the dutiful daughter, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Then, I felt it..that prickle on my skin, the unmistakable weight of someone’s gaze.I searched the crowd discreetly until my eyes landed on him. Cassius. He was a vision of lethal elegance in a black tuxedo, his first two buttons undone to reveal the chiseled bronze of his chest. My heart didn't just race.. it slammed against my ribs. He was towering over a business associate, but his eyes were locked on me, dark and predatory.Despite the biting chill of the air con

  • Ruined By Daddy   Chapter 20: Let's Celebrate Your Heartbreak

MARIELLE I sat under the shower, still fully dressed and letting the ice-cold water soak through the layers of my clothes. My hair was wet and heavy, sticking to my skin like a shroud. The temperature was probably freezing, but the cavernous ache in my chest was so loud it drowned out any physical sensation.I stared at my hands. They were pale, almost translucent through the water. I leaned my head back against the tiles, and finally, the cold water was joined by hot, streaming tears."Why, Cassius... why?"I whispered it first, then I couldn't help it… I screamed. A raw, jagged sound that ripped through the bathroom. It was the realization that I was nothing more than a temporary fix for his needs. I wasn't the woman he loved. I wasn't the one he was proud to stand beside. I was just the girl in the house.…Bang! Bang! Bang!...The sudden thunder on the door made me gasp, but I didn't move. I stayed huddled on the floor of the tub. I didn't want to explain. I didn't want to be "fix
