“What the fuck is going on?”

“Your brother thought it was wise to let the girls see a doctor. He said we haven’t been treating them well” Dad’s voice was laced with anger.

I looked at Maverick.

“Is it true? You’re doing all this for the help?”

“Yes. Ivy said they weren’t being fed regularly and that some of them haven’t seen a doctor in years. They need to be looked at. We can’t expect them to do the work we want them to do if they’re not healthy. We don’t’ even provide them with enough food. Most of them are underweight, Maddox.”

“This is ridiculous. This is wasting everyone’s time.”
