Chapter 7

Author: Dewy Sheep
Sabrina then vanished from Katherine's and Cameron's lines of sight.

Cameron frowned, looking like he wanted to say something, but Katherine had already pushed him in the opposite direction.

He didn't know why, but he sensed that something about Sabrina had changed. Yet, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Cameron got into the car and closed his eyes as he recalled the events of the day. Katherine kept talking to him, but he never once opened his eyes to look at her.

Katherine bit down on her lower lip until tears appeared in her eyes.

It wasn't until Cameron vaguely heard her sobbing that he finally opened his eyes and glanced at her. He asked, "What is it?"

"Cam, are you angry?"

Katherine's eyes were red, and she looked utterly aggrieved. "Are you angry that Danny accidentally hurt Berry and made Sabrina upset, too?"

Cameron went silent for a while, his gaze shifting outside the window. "No."

"Then why did you give Sabrina another puppy? Danny—"

"It's just a dog."

Katherine wanted to say more, but Cameron interrupted her firmly, saying, "Katie, you don't need to be so petty like this."

"Cam…" Katherine couldn't believe her ears. This was the first time Cameron had disregarded her feelings.

Cameron lowered his voice and said, "If Danny is still afraid of the dog, I can place both of you in another villa."

Katherine's expression fell at once. She said, "Cam, I didn't mean it like that…"

"You'd better not." Cameron closed his eyes again, some exhaustion reflecting on his face. "Sabrina has been diligently fulfilling her duties in the Sterling household, and she's already suffered a lot. There's nothing wrong with her having a pet to keep her company.

"Also, tell Danny to stay away from the puppy next time."

Katherine dug her nails into her palm so hard she might leave scars behind. Her eyes surged with fierce hatred.

However, Sabrina was unaware of this. She dismissed Susan and then sent a text message to a private investigator, Jerry Clarkson. After all, Katherine had been acting a little strange earlier.

Then, Sabrina went into her room to pack her things.

She gathered her belongings together and packed them into boxes before placing them in the farthest corner of her wardrobe. Finally, she placed the documents Cameron had signed into her bag.

Just as she was planning to leave the villa with a simple suitcase, she suddenly heard a crisp bark from the living room.

She looked back.

The palm-sized puppy in the cage was staring at her with its pitiful eyes.

Sabrina caved. She walked over to the cage and picked it up, bringing the puppy along with her.

One hour later, the cab arrived at a luxury apartment building.

Sabrina had bought this place two years ago under Juliana's name. Back then, she had bought it because it was closer to the law firm than the villa was, and it was more convenient for her to sleep here if she worked overtime late into the night.

She never thought that this apartment would now turn out to be the only place left where she could stay.

She entered the apartment using her thumbprint, and a loud cheer rang out right at that moment.

"Surprise!"

Juliana jumped out with a large bouquet of foxtail lilies in her hands. When she saw the cage, her eyes lit up at once. "Berry?"

After stuffing the bouquet into Sabrina's arms, Juliana teased her and said, "Why did you also bring him with you? I see now that you've completely made up your mind about not going back anymore."

"It's not Berry," Sabrina said, her mind replaying Berry's tiny figure that had accompanied her for years. She lowered her eyes to hide the pain in them. "This is Lizzy."

"Lizzy?"

Juliana hugged the small puppy in her arms and asked, "Where did you steal her from?"

"Cameron gave her to me."

Juliana froze. "You… You're not over him yet?"

Otherwise, why did Sabrina bring nothing but this dog?

"You're overthinking things," Sabrina said. "I'm just worried that Lizzy would also end up with a fate like Berry's."

After all, Dante, that little devil, was still in that villa.

Still, Sabrina didn't offer any further explanation. She also didn't tell Juliana about Berry's passing.

Instead, she retrieved the documents Cameron had signed and handed them to Juliana.

She said, "Take a look at this."

"What's this?" Juliana asked, taking the documents from her. After flipping through a few pages, her eyes widened. "This… This is…"

She was so shocked that she couldn't even form a coherent sentence.

Everyone knew that the Sterlings were the wealthiest family in Lark City. If she were to collaborate with them, she would no longer have to worry about her small legal firm going out of business ever again.

But…

After the initial excitement passed, worry and anxiety began showing on Juliana's forehead. She cautiously asked, "Rina… Do you think that this… might be inappropriate?"

Sabrina was confused. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, you’ve already decided to divorce Cameron, but his company just became our client. Won't that make things awkward between you two?"

"Work is work. I keep it separate from my private affairs," Sabrina said laughingly. "Besides, the contract never said that I had to be the one in charge."

"You mean…"

Realization dawned on Juliana. Her frown eased as she said, "Well, as long as you know what's coming."

She then thumped herself on the chest and said, "Don't worry. Just let me know if there's anything I can do to help with your divorce from Cameron. I will make sure to handle it perfectly!"

"There is something you can help me with, actually," Sabrina said, taking out the letter of authorization from the sheaf of documents.

Cameron had personally signed it.

The front part of the contract was just a smokescreen. Somewhere in between, there was a statement that read, "All divorce proceedings will be handled entirely by Attorney-at-Law Juliana Dawson from Legacy Law Firm".

When Juliana saw this, she almost jumped in excitement.

"Rina! How did you manage to do that? Did you switch things out? Did you pull a fast one on him?"

Sabrina smiled and said nothing.

To her, it didn't matter how she managed to get Cameron's signature. Most importantly, with this letter of authorization, Juliana had the right to settle all of Cameron's divorce proceedings on his behalf without even needing him to be physically present.

After all, Cameron was a cripple with mobility issues.

Juliana was very impressed with Sabrina's capabilities. She saw how confident Sabrina was and couldn't help but scoff as she stared at Cameron's signature.

"The Sterling family is a textbook example of being foolish enough to not even be able to distinguish between trash and treasure. They can't even tell the difference between good and bad. And that family of yours, too…"

Juliana grew furious at the mere mention of them. "How could they even call themselves your biological parents?

"They worked with the Sterlings to hold you down and make things hard for you, as though your success would somehow rob them of their wealth. Lunatics, all of them!"

Sabrina chuckled silently. "Alright. Stop being so cynical. You know that they've always been like that."

She had understood since childhood that she no longer had a home, not after being abandoned at an orphanage.

Her family only begrudgingly acknowledged her again because she'd managed to marry into the Sterling family.

Sabrina never held any expectations toward them anyway.

She tidied up the bedroom at the apartment before returning to the villa. There were still many things that she hadn't taken away yet, but she had to move them slowly and discreetly.

She couldn't let Cameron notice her belongings disappearing too quickly. If he grew suspicious, the divorce would only become harder.

Sabrina stepped into the yard and saw that the lights were turned on. She knew that it meant that Cameron had returned with the others.

There was nobody in the living room. Sabrina couldn't be bothered to find out where they could be. Instead, she changed into her indoor slippers and began walking up the stairs.

However, just as she walked past the guest bedroom, she heard a pampered voice complaining from the inside.

"Danny just made a fuss asking for his dad again," Katherine said with a helpless sigh. "Cam, you promised me that even after I got divorced, you wouldn't let Danny grow up in a single-parent family…"

Sabrina stopped in her steps.

She wanted to walk right past them to go upstairs, but her feet just wouldn't move.

Cameron's silence and Katherine's aggrieved sobbing from inside the room pelted against her chest.

After what seemed like forever, Sabrina heard a sigh from Cameron, followed by, "Don't cry anymore. I'll talk to her about it."

Archer said, "You certainly have the guts, Mr. Sterling. You just gave up on a project worth hundreds of billions of dollars just like that."I'm a little curious, though. About your wife…"Archer leaned a little lower as he dragged out his words, saying, "Have you ever spent that much money on your own wife before?"Cameron was about to wheel himself away when Archer's words made him freeze. Sabrina's beautiful yet resolute face instinctively surfaced in his mind.He was still a human being with emotions, after all.And after being married to her for five years, he knew very well that she truly and sincerely cared for him. That was also why he would always feel ashamed and guilty whenever he had to face her.He clenched his fists and fought hard to maintain his usual gentle demeanor.Instead of answering Archer's question, however, he asked another question in return. She instinctively wanted to rush out of the bathroom, but Gianna gently stopped her.Sabrina frowned, her mind racing. She didn't know what Archer was up to, but she knew he never did anything meaningless. It wasn't easy for him to get Katherine out on bail. It was almost as if he was waiting for something else. The room fell silent for a while. After what felt like forever, Cameron finally gave in and said, "Just name your conditions, Uncle Archer.""Is that so?"A sarcastic glint flashed in Archer's eyes under the lights as he remarked, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but just a few days ago at the Sterling family dinner, didn't you act as if you were still deeply in love with your wife?"So, why are you now asking me t
