Elara’s POV

Before the sun could rise and force me to smile at people I didn’t trust, I slipped into the woods behind the training grounds, letting the cold air bite into my skin. My wolf paced beneath my skin, restless, unsettled, hungry.

I needed space. I needed to breathe.

I hadn't even gotten too far when a rogue came out of nowhere, barreling through the underbrush. I barely turned before it was on me, claws catching my shoulder, teeth snapping too close to my throat.

I screamed, bracing for the impact, but it never landed.

A monstrous growl ripped through the trees. And then he was there.

Kael, in full shift, silver fur stained red as he slammed into the rogue, his jaws locking onto its neck. One shake. One crunch and then silence from the rogue.

Blood dripped from his muzzle as he stood over the twitching body, panting.

I couldn’t move, I couldn’t look away from the terrifying beauty of him, feral, glowing, wild.

He shifted back. Naked. Breathtaking and alive.

His eyes locked o

Kael’s POVSelene’s voice was still in my ear when I tore the envelope open. The paper was thick, the wax seal pressed with the High Moon Summit’s crest, a crescent overlaid with the runic circle of the Council. An official summons.I scanned the neat, looping script.“Alpha Kael of the Bloodpine Pack, you are hereby invited to attend the Annual Alliance Gathering, hosted in Blackthorn territory. Attendance is strongly advised. Pack alliances will be reaffirmed, trade agreements negotiated, and future defense strategies discussed. Neutral ground. Four nights’ duration. Arrival expected within three weeks.”Beneath the formality, I could see the underlying truth. “Strongly advised” meant mandatory if you valued your political standing. I’d attended once before, years ago, when my father was still alive. Selene stepped closer. “Blackthorn. Hm. They’ve expanded their patrol routes this year. Interesting choice of host.”Her tone was light, but I could feel her watching me. We’d played t

Kael’s POVMy fists rammed against the punching bag violently, trying to inflict as much harm unto my hands as I could. The pain usually distracted him from his thoughts but it seemed that was not to be the case today, my mind was all over the place.I had dreams of Elara again. “Ha”, I laughed out loud at myself without any humor whatsoever in it. There was no night I hadn’t dreamt of Elara since she had left, she haunted my every dream, just lingering beyond the edge of my consciousness like I could touch her if I put enough effort.I knew it was a lie, it had never worked like that before, no matter how much effort I put in, I could never touch her. She was gone.I had accepted the fact, but I still never gave up looking. Everyday, there was a scout on the lookout for Elara. After a few more minutes of punching the bag without yielding the pain I wanted, I took off the bandages wrapping my knuckles and tossed them on the floor, they were bloodied, as I hoped. I would have to make

I woke to the sound of laughter. It was loud, messy and layered with the thudding footsteps of half a dozen little ones running over the dirt yard outside my window.Eren’s was the loudest. Four years old now, taller and far more stubborn, with a head of wild curls that refused to obey combs or logic, he’d become the unofficial ringleader of the pack’s younger children. I could hear his voice, high and delighted, barking out orders for some imaginary battle that involved sticks and an alarming amount of mud.I sat up, rubbing sleep from my eyes, and for a moment I just… listened. Four years ago, the pack had been smaller, quieter, a place where every home was next to the other. Now, the air was filled with the clatter of life: pots clanging in the kitchen, bubbly voices trading gossip over the courtyard, the occasional bark from the dogs we’d trained to keep watch at night.I never wanted to leave this place. The mark on my hand, still hidden under Lera’s cloaking, tingled faintly, li

  • Run Little Mate   Chapter 39

Elara’s POVI woke to the smell of bread baking. For one blissful second, I forgot about the mark on my hand, the Moon Blessed, and everything Leah had said. Then my gaze fell to my palm, the faint silvery crest still pulsing under my skin like a heartbeat, and reality came rushing back in.Eren was already up, sitting cross-legged at the foot of the bed with a piece of bread so big it looked like it had been stolen. He grinned at me with crumbs all over his cheeks.“Mama, you eat,” he announced proudly, thrusting the mangled chunk in my direction. I sat up and took a bite just to make him happy. He beamed like he’d just fed me the finest feast in the realms. When we stepped into the kitchen, Lera was there instead of Leah, her hair loose for once, sleeves rolled up, the air around her humming faintly with something that made the little hairs on my arms stand up.“You’re finally awake,” she said with a smile that didn’t quite hide her watchfulness. “Good. I thought we’d start your da

Elara’s POVLeah didn’t answer immediately. She just sat there, her jaw tight, shifting Eren to one arm while her other hand traced the faint glow still lingering on my skin, like she was trying to make sense of it without speaking the words. Finally, she let out a breath.“Alright, listen carefully, because I’m only saying this once. That tracking dust? The glittery stuff you can’t see but apparently burnt into your skin?” She gave a humorless smile. “It’s outlawed in the magical world. According to Lera, it’s one of the most dangerous things anyone can create. And guess who made it first?”The way she paused told me she wanted me to guess, but my brain was already a tangled knot of panic. “…The Moon Blessed?,” I asked slowly.“Bingo.” She shifted Eren again, pressing a kiss to his soft hair like she was grounding herself. “They’re the only ones who could craft something so precise it can latch onto a person’s aura and follow it anywhere in the realms. It’s… not the kind of magic nor

  • Run Little Mate   Chapter 37

Elara’s POVThe purple slime in the cauldron rose ominously and all a sudden, it flew out of it, darting straight for me. I could see it coming at me but for some reason I was completely frozen and couldn’t move to block it or dodge.I felt a shove at my shoulder that pushed me out of the way, making the purple slime creature bounce against the walls. It was Lucan, he had pushed me out of the way.“Thank you”, I said shakily. I had no idea what the thing they had concocted was, I couldn’t feel any sort of energy or smell anything from it, but it was clearly…alive.“Catch it”, Leah yelled, jumping across the room to seal her hand over it. True to its nature, it was slippery and escaped from her grasp, jumping over to the door and squeezing under it. Uncle Ro quickly opened the door to see that it had headed over to one of Eren’s cots in the apothecary building. As though it was looking for something, it jumped away from the empty cot and ran out of the building. My heart lurched in my
