Kiera’s POV

I stood alone in my chambers… the Luna’s chambers that had been cleaned and prepared for me weeks ago but that I’d never actually used. Everything was quiet, and peaceful. The kind of peace that felt wrong after so much chaos.

The artifact pulsed against my skin, warm and insistent. Since absorbing Lucien’s dark magic and completing the trials, it had changed. Become more demanding, and present.

I could feel it now, constantly. Not just the physical weight of it around my neck, but the awareness it brought. Threats brewing in distant territories. Pack tensions simmering on borders I’d never visited. Rogues gathering in neutral zones. Dangers everywhere, all the time, filtering through my consciousness like static I couldn’t turn off.

The Guardian bond, the witch had called it. The price of wielding creation’s power.

I’d accepted that price willingly. Would accept it again. But I hadn’t truly understood what it meant until now… this constant, exhausting vigilance that never

  • Runaway Luna Rider   168: The Fight Within

Darius’s POV The moment Kiera drank the potion and collapsed, her body began to convulse.I caught her before she hit the ground, lowering her carefully into the center of the ritual circle. Her eyes were open but unseeing, staring at something I couldn’t perceive. Her mouth moved silently, forming words in a language that didn’t exist.“Lay her down,” the witch commanded. “Then step back. All of you, outside the circle.”“I’m not leaving her,” I said.“You must. If you cross into the ritual space while she’s fighting, you’ll contaminate the magic. The darkness will use your presence against her. You’ll kill her by trying to help.”Every instinct screamed to ignore her, to stay by Kiera’s side. But I forced myself to step back, joining Magnus, Thomas, and Jack at the circle’s edge.Kiera’s convulsions intensified. Her back arched unnaturally, her fingers clawing at the ground. The artifact around her neck blazed with light so intense I had to look away.“What’s happening to her?” Tho

  • Runaway Luna Rider   167: The Ritual

Kiera’s POV The new moon rose over the sacred clearing, bringing darkness so complete it felt like the world had forgotten what light was.I stood in the center of the ritual space, surrounded by protective symbols the witch had drawn in silver and salt. Darius, Magnus, Thomas, and Jack formed a circle around me, guards against any threats. But they couldn’t protect me from what I was about to face. The real danger was inside me.The witch circled the space slowly, chanting in a language I didn’t understand. Power gathered with each word, pressing against my skin like invisible hands. The artifact burned hot against my collarbone, sensing what was coming.“Are you ready?” the witch asked, stopping in front of me with a small vial of dark liquid.“No,” I said honestly. “But I’m doing it anyway.”She smiled slightly. “Honesty is good. It will serve you in there.”She handed me the vial. The potion inside looked like liquified shadow, thick and strong. Just looking at it made my stomach

  • Runaway Luna Rider   166: Gut Feelings

Darius’s POV Kiera told me about the ritual in our chambers. She laid it out clearly… the darkness spreading, the artifact failing to contain it, the witch’s solution involving confronting manifestations of her traumas. She explained the timing, the risks, the specific conditions required. And then she asked me to promise I’d kill her if she failed. “No!!!” The word came out flat and absolute. “Darius…” “No. Absolutely not. Find another way.” Kiera’s expression didn’t change. She’d expected this resistance. “There is no other way. The ritual is the only option, and it requires someone I trust to end my life if the darkness wins. That’s you.” “Then the ritual doesn’t happen.” I stood, needing to move, and to do something other than stand there discussing killing my mate. “We’ll find a different solution. Ask the witch for alternatives. Contact other mystics.” “There’s no time. The darkness is getting worse.” Kiera pulled down the collar of her shirt, showing me burns I hadn’t

  • Runaway Luna Rider   165: The Poison

Kiera’s POV I stopped telling Darius about the nightmares. After that first night when I nearly killed him, when he saw my eyes go black, I knew I needed to hide how bad things were getting. He was already worried enough. Already watching me with that careful concern that made me feel like a bomb ready to explode. He didn’t need to know that the nightmares came every single night now.Or that they were getting worse.I’d wake gasping, my hands already formed into claws, the taste of violence sharp in my mouth. Sometimes I remembered the dreams—visions of me tearing through the pack, killing everyone I loved while Lucien’s voice laughed in my head. Other times I woke with no memory, just the certainty that something terrible had been happening behind my closed eyes. The whispers started three days after the first incident.I’d be going about normal activities… training with Darius, holding Margaret, reviewing biker reports… and suddenly I’d hear it. Lucien’s voice, clear as if he was

  • Runaway Luna Rider   164: The Darkness 2

Darius’s POV Kiera rode beside me, her posture straight and alert, but something was off. She kept touching the artifact… small, unconscious movements where her fingers would drift to her collarbone, pressing against the glowing metal like she was checking to make sure it was still there. “You okay?” I asked after the third time in ten minutes. “Fine.” Her answer came too quickly. “Kiera.” “I’m fine, Darius. Just tired.” She wasn’t fine. I could see it in the tension around her eyes, in the way she scanned the forest like she expected threats to materialize from the shadows. The witch’s warning about the darkness inside her had shaken something loose. But pushing her when she clearly didn’t want to talk would only make things worse. So I let it go, riding beside her in silence while my instincts screamed that something was wrong. The weeks that followed felt surreal and abnormal. We returned to Blackhowl to find the territory recovering steadily from recent battles. Damaged

  • Runaway Luna Rider   163: The Darkness 1

Kiera’s POV The journey to Stormclaw took most of the day.I rode beside Darius, with Thomas and a contingent of elite warriors surrounding us. The security wasn’t subtle… Zeus would know we came prepared for treachery. But after our last encounter with Stormclaw, nobody was taking chances. The closer we got to Zeus’s territory, the more I noticed changes. The border patrols were still present but less aggressive. The markers were clearly defined but not hostile. Guards watched our approach without immediately bristling for a fight.“It’s different,” Thomas observed quietly. “Stormclaw used to feel like enemy territory from the moment you crossed the border. This feels…”“Calmer,” I finished. “Less threatening.”Darius’s expression was guarded. “Zeus is still dangerous. Changes or not, he nearly killed us both last time.”“I know.” My hand moved unconsciously to the artifact, which pulsed steadily against my skin. “But he also yielded. Recognized my claim. That means something.”“It
