RAMON

I stormed out of the hotel the moment Phoebe walked away. My chest was tight, and I could barely breathe. I didn’t even wait for the elevator…I took the stairs, needing to move, to burn off the anger and confusion swirling in my head.

Why did she leave like that? Why didn’t she give me a chance to explain?

That message. That stupid message.

I wasn’t even sure how it got through. I hadn’t spoken to Ciara in months. I blocked her number, deleted every trace of her from my life. I had no idea how she was still managing to get to me.

And now… she ruined everything.

By the time I reached home, my head was pounding. I didn’t even notice the extra car parked outside until I opened the door.

Then I saw her.

Ciara. Sitting comfortably on the living room couch, sipping wine like she lived here.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked, frozen in place.

Her face lit up like she’d been waiting for me all day. “Ramon! Oh my God, finally!”

She got up and came straight toward me, arms wide

PHOEBEI didn’t wait. I couldn’t.The moment he said nothing, I turned around and picked up my bag with shaky hands.“Phoebe, please,” Ramon said, standing up and moving toward me. “Just listen…she means nothing to me. I’m not involved with her.”I refused to look at him. If I looked at him, I’d crumble. And I didn’t want to cry in front of him again.“She called you baby, Ramon,” I said flatly, my voice cold. “She asked if you were still busy with your uncle’s little pet project. That’s me, right? The project?”He stepped closer, his voice soft but urgent. “You’re not a project. Don’t ever say that again. You’re everything to me. I was going to tell you….I was. But you didn’t let me talk.”I didn’t answer. I just pulled open the door and walked out.“Phoebe!” he called behind me, his voice breaking. But I didn’t stop. I didn’t turn back. The drive back home felt like hours, even though it was less than twenty minutes. I kept wiping my tears, trying not to let the driver see my tears.

PHOEBEThe phone slipped from my fingers and fell to the floor with a loud thud.I just stared at it, frozen. My chest felt tight. I couldn’t breathe.Pet project? Was that me? Was I the pet project?I slowly stood up, trying to stay calm, but my head was spinning.I walked to the bathroom like a robot. Every step felt heavier than the last, like my legs didn’t even want to move anymore. My chest was tight, and my head was spinning. I could barely breathe. My hands were shaking. My lips quivered as I tried to swallow the lump growing in my throat. My eyes were already burning with tears before I even shut the door behind me.The moment the lock clicked, I broke down.I slid to the floor at first, then pulled myself up and sat on the edge of the tub. My arms wrapped tightly around myself like I could hold all the broken pieces together if I just squeezed hard enough. But nothing worked. Nothing helped. The sobs came before I could even fight them. Big, loud, ugly sobs that echoed off t

PHOEBE I curled into Ramon’s arms, resting my head on his chest. His heartbeat was slow and steady, and for the first time in a long while, I felt peace. Real peace. Like the world outside didn’t matter, and all I needed was right here with me.He ran his hand slowly up and down my back, whispering soft things I could barely hear.“You feel like home, Phoebe,” he murmured, his lips brushing the top of my head. “I don’t think I’ve breathed properly until tonight.”I smiled, feeling warm all over. “That’s cheesy.”“I’m serious,” he said, chuckling lightly. “I don’t deserve you.”“Stop,” I whispered. “Don’t say that.”“I’m scared this will all go away,” he whispered, his eyes fluttering shut. “I don’t want to wake up and find out this is a dream…”I placed my hand on his chest, feeling the slow rhythm under my palm. “Then don’t sleep. Stay awake with me.”He smiled softly. “I’ll try.”But in less than five minutes, I felt his breathing slow. His arms were still wrapped around me, but hi

PHOEBE“Phoebe,” Ramon started, staring at me as he turned around. “There’s something I need to tell you before anything else. It’s important. Please.”I quickly shook my head and pulled him closer, leaving no space between us.My hands were shaking. “Not right now, Ramon. Please don’t start with more confessions. I can’t handle more words now.”“But I have to,” he insisted, taking a step forward. “I’ve kept something from you, and if I don’t say it….”“I said not right now!” I cut him off, my voice rising louder than I meant. I took a deep breath and turned to face him, my eyes burning. “Can you just… stop? Just for a moment?”He paused, startled. “Phoebe…”“I’m so tired,” I said, my voice cracking. “Tired of crying. Tired of asking questions. Tired of wondering what’s real and what’s not. I just want to feel something other than pain tonight.”His mouth opened slightly, as if he wanted to keep talking, but I sat on him. I looked up at him.“Please don’t ruin this moment,” I whispere

RAMONDane shifted under our grip, tense, breathing heavily. He wasn’t fighting us anymore, but his muscles were still tight, like he could snap at any moment.“Put him on the platform, let me see what I can do,” the warlock said, pointing to a stone slab surrounded by glowing runes.Zane and Kane helped Dane up, guiding him as gently as possible. He didn't speak. He didn’t even look at me. My heart twisted in my chest. The warlock moved quickly, placing his hands over Dane’s head, chanting low under his breath. Blue light pulsed from his fingers, washing over Dane’s body. Dane winced, like the magic burned his skin. I reached out, but the warlock snapped, “Do not touch him!”I froze. For the next ten minutes, the warlock worked in silence. Dane trembled, his body arching slightly as the magic worked through him. Then, suddenly, the light dimmed. The warlock staggered back a step, eyes wide.“What is it?” I rushed forward. “What’s wrong?”“He’s bonded too deeply,” the warlock said slo

RAMONI stood near the corner of the street in the car, heart pounding harder than it should. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows, but I barely noticed. My eyes were glued to the store across from me. I knew Phoebe was in there. I’d followed her and her friend, Winnie, from a distance like some kind of lovesick creep. But I didn’t care. I had to see her. I had to explain. She needed to know the truth. When she stepped out of the store, laughing lightly at something Winnie said, my chest tightened. God, she looked tired. Thinner maybe. But still…beautiful. She didn’t see me at first. And I wasn’t sure I could move. I froze.“This is your chance,” I whispered to myself.I waited until Winnie walked ahead to get her car, and then I moved.“Phoebe,” I called softly. She turned, her eyes scanning until they landed on me. Her face dropped immediately. She took a step back.“No,” she said instantly. “No. What are you doing here?”“I just need five minutes,” I said quickly, raising my ha

PHOEBE“I just don’t understand what went wrong,” I said for probably the hundredth time that week.Mom rubbed my back gently while Grandma held my hand. I was curled up on the couch in my pajamas, blanket wrapped tightly around me, even though it was warm inside. My eyes were tired from crying, but somehow the tears still kept coming. It didn’t matter how long I stared at the ceiling at night or how much I tried to stay distracted during the day, Ramon was always there in the back of my mind. Every little memory felt like a fresh scratch across my heart.“I wish I had the right words, baby,” Mom said softly, her voice calm and patient, the way it always was when I was hurting. “But I need you to hear this… falling in love isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s not bad. It means you’re human. It means your heart works.”I sniffled and wiped my nose with the sleeve of my hoodie. “Then why does it hurt so much?”Grandma squeezed my hand tightly. Her palm was warm, her grip soft but stea

SHAWNAI stood at the door, watching Phoebe storm out.“Phoebe, wait…” I called after her.She didn’t even look back. Her shoulders were stiff, her steps fast and angry. The door shut behind her with a heavy thud, and I felt like the air was knocked out of my lungs.I stayed there a moment longer, listening to the silence.God, this girl was breaking my heart. With a sigh, I turned and headed down the hallway. Damien was in his study, reading something on his laptop, a pen tapping against his palm.“Damien,” I said softly. He looked up immediately, concerned about flooding his face. “What happened?”I shut the door behind me and leaned against it. My legs felt weak.“It’s Phoebe,” I said, rubbing my temple. “She told me everything.”He sat up straighter. “What do you mean, everything?”I walked to the chair across from him and sank. “About Ramon. About what she’s been going through since meeting him. The pain. The confusion. The lies. Damien… She was manipulated. Lied to. And she’s be
