CHAPTER-4 CHARITY GALA BALL

6 MONTHS WENT BY JUST LIKE THAT~

Life is all set. Everything is happening according to how I wished and planned things to be. Perfect career, a very happy family, slightly annoying but lovely sister, friends, money, respect, everything.

I have everything except one thing…my so-called love life. But that’s fine. I’m more than happy with my life right now.

After that night, I joined the embassy and started working as a translator. Currently, I’m in my training and development period. After three more months, I’ll be ready to fly to the moon like a rocket.

Someone smacked my head, which made me jerk forward and killed my thought process.

Rubbing my head, I whined “What the hell, Roman?” I didn’t even have to look up to know who did the honor, because I knew there was only one person who could do something like this to me.

“No hi, no hello, is this the way you greet your best friend?” He said, putting his hand on his heart and showing a hurt sign. That earned him an eye roll from me.

Annoyed, I said “You little vixen, how dare you spoil my hair?”

But he was not at all affected by my pissed behavior. He said “Hey hey, easy there. Don’t forget we’re still in the embassy.” He narrowed his eyes at me.

I turned my head 180 degrees and saw everyone looking at us. I gave them an apologetic smile. I turned my head towards Roman again and continued talking in a lower voice. “Why did you come here? You better have some important news. Otherwise, after office hours, I’m going to smack your ass until it turns red.”

“For your kind information, I came here to tell you that tonight we’re going to a charity gala ball held by Aiden Maxwell and Roseline Maxwell, founders of Max Corporations. This is going to be a worldwide event and that’s why we’re all invited. And you, my friend, are going with me. I’ll pick you up at 8 sharp tonight. Be ready as flawless as ever. And before you start arguing with me, let me tell you. I’m not taking no for an answer and this discussion is over here!”

I looked at him with my jaw hanging open. He just left me speechless with the determination he said his words with. There was no room left for argument and I knew it was better to agree than to resist. “Okay, fine. I’ll be ready on time. We’ll go together.”

“That’s my girl. Now back to your work.”

Here came Jessica with her evergreen smile on her face. She asked “What’s going on, guys? Did I miss something?”

In a very short period of time, we three became very close friends and I was lucky to have them.

“Nothing much. Just letting her know about the charity gala.” Roman answered her question.

“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about that. So you’re coming, right?” She asked me.

“Of course. This little vixen here left me no choice.” I replied, pointing at Roman and stifling a laugh along with Jessica.

“I heard that.”

“Good for you.”

And we burst out laughing but soon regretted our action because the whole room was giving us weird looks. We gave them our apologetic sheepish smiles with the word “sorry”. After that, we went back to our respective work.

Two hours went by just like that. Now it was time to leave for home at 5 pm so that we could get ready for the gala on time. I rushed back home in my black baby. Janice was out at her friend’s house for group study. This girl never stayed at home. Mom was at the market for grocery shopping. I texted her while leaving for home from the embassy. So the conclusion was: I had to get ready on my own.

I didn’t know what to wear. I didn’t want to make a fool out of myself. I had never been to a gala before. This was all new to me. After taking a shower, I slowly reached my closet and pulled out a dress that mom had bought for me some time ago. I guessed this would do! I wore my red dress along with my heels and let my natural wavy curls loose on my back. I didn’t wear much makeup, just a natural look. I was ready to go when my doorbell rang. Right on time, Roman. I smiled wickedly and went downstairs. I opened the door and there stood my date for tonight, smiling at me.
