Mon stood in the middle of it all, wearing a wide smile. He spotted Thersa and walked over quickly. Without warning, he pulled her close to him and wrapped an arm around her waist.

“This is the woman of my dreams!” he said loudly, making sure everyone heard. “Didn’t I tell you all she had something special?”

He kissed her cheek as cameras flashed around them.

Thersa gave a small smile, but her eyes didn’t shine. She looked around the room trying to free herself

Mon went on. “I always knew she had it in her. My wife is full of surprises.”

People clapped again. Thersa stood still, her hands folded in front of her. She wondered how Mon could pretend so easily...like he had never once doubted her.

Someone from the crowd suddenly asked, “But Mr. Mondragon, you weren’t at the fashion show yesterday?”
