GILDA’S POV

I tried so hard to keep my composure, to remain calm, to make sure I didn’t react in a way that would later be used against me. Every muscle in my body felt tense, like it was waiting for something to snap.

What the hell was going on?

The hall still buzzed with quiet murmurs when Vera walked toward me, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. She waited until the man had completely left before stopping in front of me.

“You should go home,” she said, her voice dripping with false concern. “I feel so terrible that you’re here. You want to take my life, don’t you?”

I stared at her in disbelief.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I snapped. “Who cares about your life?”

She blinked, clearly offended, but I didn’t stop. She always believed everything revolved around her, her career, her space, her misery. I had stayed quiet for too long, swallowed too many insults, endured too much humiliation.

Maybe it was time to speak.

“You’re a terrible actor,” she continued bitterl

GILDA’S POVJapheth had been treating me well, too well.It wasn’t subtle anymore. It wasn’t hidden behind polite instructions or brief conversations. It was open, deliberate, and frequent. The way he spoke to me, the way he watched me, the way he always made sure I was comfortable, it was becoming noticeable. And in a house where people watched everything, nothing went unseen.Jane noticed. She always did.She barged into my room without knocking, grabbed one of my dresses from the wardrobe, and pressed it to her nose. Her brows pulled together as she inhaled deeply.“Not this one,” she muttered, tossing it aside. She reached for another. Then another.Soon, my clothes were scattered across the floor like they had been violently rejected.“What you’re doing doesn’t make any sense,” I snapped. “You look ridiculous. You’re honestly very dumb for even thinking this way.”“Shut your mouth,” she hissed. “You’re doing something disgusting, and I’m trying to find proof.”“Proof of what?” I

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 39

GILDA’S POV“Jane, not today,” I said sharply. “I don’t have the energy or time for the madness you enjoy creating.”I pushed past her again without waiting for a response. At that moment, I genuinely did not care if she stumbled, fell, or embarrassed herself. Whatever happened to her was no longer my concern. I had carried her cruelty on my shoulders for far too long.I entered my room and shut the door behind me, finally breathing freely. My hands trembled slightly as I dropped the shopping bags on the bed and began pulling the clothes out one after another. This was real.I was officially attached to a film label. The weight of that truth settled slowly, beautifully. There was no better news in the world. Nothing else compared to this moment, nothing Jane said, nothing Vera threatened, nothing Ethan implied. That night, I slept deeply, peacefully, like I hadn’t in a long time. It was a long, dreamless sleep, the kind that heals parts of you that have been aching silently.I woke up

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 38

GILDA’S POVI got back inside the house, went to my room, and found an envelope lying on my bed. I picked it up and looked at it. There was a card inside.I wondered who might have sent it. I held the envelope in my hands, staring at it for a long moment, then dropped it.“Who could have sent this to me?” I wondered aloud.I tried to think of someone, but nothing came to mind, and that unsettled me.I decided to leave it alone for the moment. Then it occurred to me that Jane might have placed it there to trap me. I moved the envelope aside and sat down. It was going to be a long day, and I prepared myself for it.I went into the shower and stayed there for a while. I washed thoroughly and came out refreshed. After I was fully dressed, there was a knock on my door.I was sure it was Jane, probably coming to accuse me of something about the card. I opened the door, but it was one of the guards. He smiled at me, which made me uncomfortable. I was about to close the door when he held it b

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 37

GILDA'S POV I was ready. I was ready for anything at all, whatever it was that he wanted to do to me. If he wanted to get me out of the house without his brother's interference, I was ready to do that. I looked at the building again and just could not believe that I was called up here to be sent out. My legs found their way into his office, a small smile escaped his lips, he seemed pleased to see me but I was never going to let that get to me. I knew he was doing all of that so I do not feel bad when he says what he wants to say to me. My heart was beating so fast, it was never the way I expected things to end but there was little I could do about it, absolutely nothing. " You asked me to come, I know she must have called you and said something to you" I said. I knew why I was there, there was no reason acting like I was going to hold up or something. " What are you talking about?" He frowned. Why was he acting like something was wrong? " I'm talking about Jane, I know she

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 36

GILDA’S POVI got to the main building and walked inside the house. The moment I stepped in, I knew something was wrong. They were all waiting for me. Their eyes followed my every movement, lingering, judging, whispering without words.I met their gazes one after the other, forcing myself not to look away.“When are you leaving?” one of the maids asked bluntly. “I’m sure he’s already asked you to go.”I could see the smiles creeping onto their faces. They looked more than pleased, excited, even, at the thought of my departure.“He hasn’t said anything like that,” I replied calmly, even though my chest felt tight.“Are you sure?” another voice chimed in. “We all know Japheth doesn’t tolerate thieves. He can’t keep someone like you here. You must be lying.”Jane stepped forward then, her lips curling into a cruel smile.“You’re going to leave this house shamelessly. It’s only a matter of time.”They were already celebrating my exit, already convinced I was done for.I ignored them and h
