GILDA'S POV

I was shocked to hear the words that had poured out of his mouth. My hands were shaking, my body won't stop reacting to the message.

I felt I did not hear correctly, but I could not lie about that; I heard it so well. It was clear, I did not need an interpreter for it. There was no need for one.

I held the bed and just stared, too shocked to speak. Next, I felt the little girl's hands on my skin; it seemed like she was urging me to accept the offer, but it was too dangerous for me.

I did not spare her a glance because I was scared I might give in.

" I know you heard me, you heard what I asked of you," his voice came on again.

It was now clear that I was not dreaming or thinking things on my own.

" I can not do it," I finally made up my mind.

What are people going to say? They are going to talk about how I have seduced him and thrown my body at a helpless man in a wheelchair.

I closed my eyes and imagined what the headlines would be. I shook my head. That's impossib

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 30

GILDA’S POVI rushed out of my room that morning. I knew very well that Japheth had instructed the guards not to let her in, but there she was at the gate.I was right, they wouldn’t let her in, so she had to stay outside and wait for me.My legs felt heavy, and lifting them from the ground to walk toward her seemed like an enormous task. I hated that she was here; I hated that she even thought of me. I wanted my face erased from her memory. How hard could that be? Why couldn’t that request be granted?I approached the gate, though not too close. I needed to keep my distance so she wouldn’t harm me.Vera could be violent when she wanted to be, and I was trying to avoid that side of her.“What do you want? And be fast about it. You know you’re not supposed to be here, I told you this last night. The last time you came, Japheth warned you to stay away and not come near this place. What are you doing here?” I asked. She looked around, glanced at the building, and sighed.I recognized the

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 29

GILDA'S POVThe way he looked at me, the way he would listen to me while I read the lines in the story made me want to keep on reading forever, just to see him looking at me that way, but Angel had already fallen asleep."I think I'll have to stop for now. She is already asleep," I said."Right. Even though I would want to continue the story, I don’t want to stress you, so you can go to bed," he said.I carefully returned the book to where I had taken it from and went ahead to tuck Angel to sleep.I covered her with the duvet and ensured she was fine."Thank you," he said.I wondered why he was thanking me; it was my job. I was paid to do this."You do not have to thank me. I enjoy taking care of her; besides, she makes it so easy for me," I said.He nodded."I know. I mean, I have tried several nannies, and she ends up disliking them, and that caused the constant changes of nannies. I'm happy she likes you, and you've been very helpful," he said.I could feel it. I could feel his gra

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 28

JAPHETH'S POV She stood in front of the camera as she made the video. She followed the script, saying everything we wanted her to say without leaving anything behind. As she spoke, she would look at me, and her eyes would return to the paper in front of her. I was not moved by the way she kept stealing glances at me; it irritated me. She finished, and the paper was taken from her. The video was posted by her as well. "This is not fair," she said.It was not fair to me as well. I get to be on the internet for the wrong reasons, I have built a solid reputation, and she was not about to get it ruined. " Will you shut the hell up?" I raised my voice. " I did not expect things to go the way they did. I thought I was going to get your attention from it, but look what you are making me do," she said. She was trying so hard to make me appear as the bad person, like I was doing something wrong to her. It was insane, but I kept my cool. "'Are you going to continue with this? Don't you

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 27

JAPHETH'S POV A call came in on my phone, and there was also a knock on my door at the same time. "Come in," I said. I picked up the call at the same time. It was Jay; he was the one at my door and calling at the same time. "What's wrong?" I asked. I knew something was wrong; he has never acted like this. Even the look on his face was worrisome. "The picture, the lady from the mall," he said in a rush. He ran his hands through his hair in so much frustration. I was confused as well. "What lady?" I asked him. "The mall…the lady from the mall, she is doing something that might be dangerous to your reputation, and it's only wise that we fix this right now," he said. He paced from one place to the other. The lady from the mall? The picture? I remember now. What was going on? "What is going on? Can you explain it to me clearly?" I asked him. "The picture she took at the mall yesterday is all over the place; she claims to be your wife, and everyone seems to be believing her cl

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 26

JAPHETH'S POVI took the items she had chosen from her hand; she seemed shaky and scared. How could I make her feel comfortable around me? I wanted her to talk to me without bowing her head to the floor."You should pick more. There are so many things here; you can’t possibly take just these small items," I said. "Okay, sir," she replied, bowing her head again.I didn’t want that. It felt like she was afraid of provoking me, and it made me uneasy."I want you to join her. You can pick things for her too," I told one of the storekeepers.I wheeled myself back to the other room, waiting for her and Angel to return. While I waited, a group of girls walked in.I looked down at my phone, trying to stay unnoticed, but I realized it was too late."Hello," I heard one of them say. She approached me with a bright smile."I knew it was you, Japheth Williams. I wasn’t wrong," she exclaimed.I sensed her excitement, but I could also see something else—desire."I’ve been wanting to see you, to h

  • SAVING ANGEL    CHAPTER 25

GILDA'S POVI couldn't tell anyone about it. I also couldn’t tell Japheth; I didn’t want to cause trouble for his family.I didn’t want to be the reason he got into any trouble. "Is something wrong?" Angel wrote.I snapped back to reality after she tapped me. I was supposed to feed her, but my hands felt glued to the plate. My mind was racing, and I held my hands still while I thought about what to do next.I was furious that things weren't going the way I wanted. Still, there was nothing I could do."I'm good," I said. Was I really good? It was obvious that I wasn't, but I had to put on a brave face so no one would worry about me.I was already dealing with too much, and I didn’t want to be a burden. So I had to maintain that facade. "That's not true," she replied.I smiled at her. Whether it was true or not, did anyone really care that much about me?I smiled at her again and kept feeding her. Once I was done, I took the plates. The other maids said nothing. They just stood th
