LOGINLights flicker.
Lina lifts her head. The holding level hums low, metal walls breathing with the estate’s power grid. The air smells like cold steel and recycled air. Then— An explosion, Dust shifts from the ceiling. Lina closes her eyes. It’s too soon… she whispers. Another blast. Closer. Boots thunder above her. Not the estate guards. She stands before anyone tells her to. The emergency lights snap red. Screams echo through the corridor. Then the door at the end of the holding wing blows inward. Smoke floods the hall. Black figures move through it. They don’t shout her name. They already know where she is. — Upstairs— Kael runs. The corridor blurs past him. Red lights. Gunfire. A body drops near the stairwell. Aaron keeps pace beside him. “Lower level’s compromised.” Kael doesn’t answer. Another explosion hits below. The floor trembles, They’re not here for Vera. They’re here for Lina. — Door slams open. Gun smoke in the air. Vera standing, Body at her feet. Kael stops short Their eyes lock. Another explosion below. They’re not here for you, he says. She nods once. “I know.” She hands him the weapon she picked up from the fallen guard. Grip steady. They went down, she adds. He studies her for half a second. Stay behind me. “No.” He doesn’t argue. They move, Together. — The stairwell reeks of smoke and burned wiring. Two guards lie crumpled near the landing. Aaron signals three men forward. Kael doesn’t slow. Vera moves to the side wall, scanning angles before Kael does. He notices. Says nothing. They hit the lower corridor at the same time. One attacker rounds the corner— Vera fires first. Clean shot. Center mass. He drops. Kael doesn’t look surprised. He shifts left, takes down another before the man can raise his weapon. Aaron’s team flanks. Bodies fall. The smoke thinns enough to see the holding wing door hanging off its hinges. Kael’s instincts sharpen. Positions, he orders. They move in. — Lina stands in the center of the corridor. Two attackers lie at her feet. One of them isn’t dead, He’s crawling toward her. Kael shoots him without breaking stride. Lina flinches, But not the way someone surprised would. Her eyes flick past Kael, To the exit. Quick Almost hopeful Then gone. Vera sees it. So does Aaron. The remaining attackers retreat deeper into the maintenance tunnels. Not fleeing. Repositioning. Kael signals pursuit. Aaron takes half the men and disappears into the smoke. Kael steps toward Lina. “You’re not hurt.” She shakes her head. “They came fast, she says. I didn’t even hear—” Kael studies her. You heard something, Vera says quietly. Lina’s gaze snaps at her. “I—no. I was asleep.” Another explosion shakes the building. Not outside, Inside the ventilation shafts. Diversion. Kael’s jaw tightens. They’re trying to split us, Vera says. He nods once. Upstairs, he orders two guards. Seal every access point.” They drag the wounded attackers away. Lina’s breathing grows uneven Kael sees it, “Move her,” he says. They escort Lina toward the secured wing. Halfway up the stairs— Gunfire erupts from behind. Aaron’s voice over comms. “Tunnel breach. They’re falling back. Leaving something behind.” Kael doesn’t like the sound of that, they reach the main hall. Smoke thins. Bodies scattered, Estate security regaining control. Vera steps closer to him, Close enough to speak without being heard. They weren’t here to win, she says. “I know.” They were testing, “Yes.” And confirming, His eyes flick to her Confirming what? That she’s still here. He looks toward Lina. She stands between two guards. Head down. Aaron reappears from the lower corridor, face tight, Most of them are dead, Two escaped through the maintenance exit. Kael nods once. Aaron’s gaze shifts to Lina. Something unsettled there. “What?” Kael asks. Aaron hesitates, How? I mean how?.... They were so coordinated, the tactics, where to go,the building exist, Is just as if they've been here before, how.....how is it possible? Kael steps forward. Everyone quiets. Search her, he says calmly. Lina’s head snaps up, What?......“Why?” I don't understand why should they search me.....I.....I....I didn't do anything..... He doesn’t answer. Two guards move in. She takes a step back. “Kael—” “Now.” They begin checking her jacket. Her boots. Her sleeves. Nothing. Lina exhales slightly, Relief. Too soon. Aaron crouches near her left side. His fingers press along the inner seam of her shirt. He pauses. Looks up at Kael. Then carefully tears the stitching open. Something small drops into his palm. Metal. Black. Blinking. A transmitter. The hall goes still. No one speaks. Lina’s face drains color. wait.... i...I can explain—” Kael raises his hand. Silence. He steps closer, Not rushed, Not angry How long? he asks. She shakes her head. “It wasn’t supposed to—” How long? he repeats. Her eyes fill, But not with guilt. Vera watches her carefully. The earlier whisper. It’s too soon. Now it makes sense. They weren’t rescuing Lina. They were activating her. Aaron straightens slowly. “They never lost her,” he says quietly. Kael’s gaze never leaves Lina’s face. “No,” he agrees. “They didn’t.” The transmitter blinks once. Twice. Active. Broadcasting. Location confirmed. Inside his walls. Lina’s voice cracks. “They said they wouldn’t hurt anyone if I just—” Kael steps closer. Close enough that she has to tilt her head up to meet his eyes. “And you believed them?” She doesn’t answer. Because there isn’t one. Around them, the estate hums back to life. Power stabilizing. Security locking down. Too late for secrecy. The confirmation has already gone out. Kael turns to Aaron. “Shut every signal in this building down. I want silence.” Aaron moves instantly. Kael looks back at Lina. The softness she once relied on isn’t there. You brought them to my door,” he says. She shakes her head. “I didn’t know they’d breach—” “But you knew they were coming.” Silence. Heavy. Truth setting in... Vera steps forward slightly. Not defending, Not accusing, Lina’s shoulders shake. “They told me if I didn’t cooperate they would come for her next.” And u believed them?....after everything we've been through.... or did u forget??? Vera asked Kael’s voice drops lower. “They already came.” He takes the transmitter from Aaron’s hand. Crushes it beneath his boot The blinking dies. But the damage doesn’t. He looks at Lina one last time. Cold. “Take her to the basement" he orders. Two guards move to escort her. She doesn’t resist. She doesn’t fight. Because now she understands something she didn’t before. She isn’t their property. And she isn’t his. She’s leverage, And leverage breaks. As she’s led away, Aaron speaks quietly. “We need to Move” Kael watches the corridor where she disappeared. “Yes.” Vera stands beside him. The air between them charged. Different now. No longer just survival, Something different, something she can't put hand on yet. He turns slightly toward her. They were never here for you "I know.” What no Kael’s expression hardens. “Now, We prepare for them In the silence that follows, everyone understands. The first attack wasn’t meant to win. And Lina—, She....she was never the hostage, but I don't understand...how did they get to her? "Vera asked"Vera’s POVIt had been a few days since everything happened between me, Kael, Lucian, Aaron… all of it.And everyone was pretending to be normal.Pretending. That was the best word for it.I was avoiding Kael.So I kept myself busy. From the garden in the morning, to the library in the afternoon, to the kitchen at night like cooking would somehow silence my head.It didn’t.And Lina…I wasn’t sure about Lina. One moment I felt like she was just a girl stuck in the middle of chaos she didn’t ask for.The next moment I remembered what she did.So I kept my distance.Safer that way.Or at least I told myself it was safer.Aaron was the bigger silence though. He had left with Lucian days ago and nobody really spoke about it after. No updates. No jokes. No annoying presence in the hallways.Just gone. And I hated that I noticed. That morning I was in the kitchen again, baking something I wasn’t even planning to eat, just because the heat and smell distracted me from thinking too much.Flou
Aaron’s POVI should’ve stayed in my room. That thought hit me halfway down the hallway, just before Lucian’s office door came into view. Too late now. The door was already open.He was inside, standing by the window, back to me, sleeves rolled up, phone in his hand. Calm. Controlled. Like he didn’t just spend the morning dismantling me piece by piece without raising his voice.I stepped in anyway.“Close the door.”I did. The click echoed louder than it should have.He didn’t turn immediately. Just finished whatever he was reading, set the phone down, then finally looked at me. And just like that—everything from last night came rushing back again.Talk, he said.I let out a breath, You didn’t answer me.His brow lifted slightly, You didn’t give me the chance.I stepped closer, frustration building fast now. “I said something I’ve been holding in for thirteen years, Lucian. Thirteen. And your response is to drag me to the gym, ignore me for an hour, and act like—”“Like what?” he cut
Aaron’s POV I woke up with my heart in my throat. Wrong ceiling. Wrong sheets. Wrong everything. Lucian’s room. And Lucian. He was on his side facing me, one arm under the pillow, breathing slowly and Shirtless. That dragon tattoo on his ribs rose and fell inches from my face. The one I’d stared at for thirteen years and never touched. _No. No no no._ Last night hit me like a freight train. The club. The car ride. The whiskey I never should’ve touched because I’m a lightweight idiot. His hand on my knee. “Talk to me, Aaron. You’ve been off all night.” And me — me with a mouth full of alcohol and years of shit I’d swallowed — just _breaking_. _I’ve loved you for Thirteen fucking years, Lucian. Since I was 11 and stupid. Since before I knew what it felt like to want someone who looks right through me. You happy? You got what you wanted?”_ I didn’t even remember his reaction. Because I passed out. Right there. In his arms. Like a damn amateur. Now it was morning. I
Vera’s POV The third shot hit different. Or maybe it was the bass. Or the way Aaron had stopped pretending he wasn’t scanning the crowd every 30 seconds like he was waiting for hell to walk through the door. Lina was already gone. Passed out on the leather couch, hair fanned out, mouth open. Dead to the world. “Lightweight,” Vera muttered, taking another sip. The alcohol burned, but not enough. Aaron smirked, but it didn’t land. His jaw was tight. He hadn’t touched his drink in 10 minutes. “We shouldn’t have left the house" “Too late,” Vera said. “You made your point.” He looked at her then. Really looked. “Did I?” Before she could answer, the air changed. You feel it in places like this. When the predator enters the room. The crowd doesn’t know why they’re parting — they just do. Aaron went rigid. Vera didn’t need to turn around. She knew. Kael. And Lucian. With their bodyguards. Lucian & Aaron Lucian didn’t say anything at first. He just walked up to the table, eyes
Vera’s POV The moment the guard left, the room went quiet again. Aaron leaned back slightly, watching her. Vera tilted her head just a little. That same look passed between them again. Lina saw it and immediately shook her head. “No.” Neither of them answered. “…No,” she repeated, stepping back like distance alone would save her. “I don’t like that silence. That silence means something stupid is about to happen.” Aaron exhaled slowly, dragging a hand over his jaw. “You say ‘stupid’ like it’s not relative.” “It’s not relative,” Lina shot back. “With you two, it’s always stupid.” Vera pushed off the chair, stretching slightly like she was just getting comfortable instead of planning something illegal under house arrest. “Relax.” “I don’t trust that word when it comes from you,” Lina replied immediately. “That sounds personal.” “It is personal,” Lina said flatly. “I just got my life back. I’m trying to keep it.” Aaron huffed out a quiet laugh, then glanced at Vera. “We can’
Vera's POV Vera stood near the window, arms folded, staring out at the compound. Guards everywhere. “Yeah,” Aaron’s voice came from behind her, lazy but sharp underneath, “I counted twelve just from here.” She didn’t turn. “There were six earlier.” “Exactly.” She exhaled slowly. “So we’re officially prisoners now.” “Soft version,” he said. “With better furniture.” That pulled a small breath out of her. Not quite a laugh. She turned, leaning her shoulder against the wall. “You tried leaving?” He tilted his head slightly. “I looked like I was going to try leaving.” “And?” “They stopped me before I even got close to the gate.” She raised a brow. “Stopped you how?” Aaron sat up a little straighter, mimicking the guard’s tone. “Sir, with all due respect, you’re not permitted beyond this point.” She folded her arms tighter. “And you listened?” He gave her a look. “Do I look like I listened?” That almost made her smile. “What did you do?” she asked. “I as
Kael doesn’t sit.He stands a few feet away from Vera, far enough to watch her fully, close enough to feel the tension shift when she breathes.“You don’t flinch,” he says quietly.Vera doesn’t answer.“Not when men raise their voices. Not when doors slam.” His
The room was silent except for the occasional drip from a broken pipe. Vera pressed herself against the far wall, every bruise throbbing, every movement sharp with pain. Lina crouched beside her, arms wrapped around herself, trembling, afraid to make a sound. Neither dared speak. A
Kael’s phone buzzed quietly. Aaron’s voice came through, clipped, controlled. “I checked her apartment.”Kael didn’t react immediately. He stood by the window, arms crossed, eyes narrowing at the city lights. “Give me the details.”Aaron inhaled. “At first glance… it looked normal. Clean. Organized
Kael’s fingers hovered over the city map. Every red dot pulsed in his system. One moved differently. Slow, deliberate, dangerous—but not random. He didn’t need Aaron to point it out. Something was off. Aaron leaned closer, whispering, “Kael… it’s this building. Underground, minimal traffic. Whoeve
