The drive was silent, but not uncomfortable. Aaron navigated smoothly, familiar with every hidden turn, every private path that led them to Kael’s estates. Vera’s hands were clenched in her lap, jaw tight, eyes burning with barely-contained fury. Kael’s presence beside her was like a shadow pressing close, calm, steady, unyielding.

She tried to meet his gaze once. He didn’t look at her. Not a flicker. Just quiet, his hand resting lightly on the console as if claiming the space without a word. Her chest tightened. She hated it. Hated him. Yet a part of her, the part that refused to admit weakness, was acutely aware of the tension coiling between them.

Aaron glanced at her briefly. “You’re really not going to say anything?” he asked, voice low. “About… well, him.”

“I… don’t want to.” Vera’s tone was clipped, almost a hiss. “Don’t even start.”

Aaron shook his head. “Fair. But just… brace yourself.”

She could feel the weight of his words, the inevitability of what was coming.

The mansion loomed ahead, enormous and imposing under the moonlight. Its black wrought-iron gates swung open silently at Aaron’s signal. The driveway stretched wide, lined with manicured gardens, lanterns casting soft pools of gold against the marble stonework. Vera’s breath caught — every detail precise, impossible, intimidating.

Kael didn’t speak. He stepped out first, coat brushing the tops of his polished shoes, movement deliberate, almost predatory in its stillness. Vera’s eyes followed him instinctively. He didn’t even to look at her — the quiet dominance radiated from him like heat. She hated that it made her heart skip.

Aaron moved ahead to unlock the doors. We’re clear, he murmured. Kael… ready?

Kael’s voice was calm, low. “Bring her in.”

Vera stiffened, fists tightening. Aaron gently guided her forward, — yet the weight of every step closer to the mansion’s threshold pressed deeper into her, like she was slipping into his orbit.

The doors opened. Inside, the mansion was breathtaking: soaring ceilings, dark mahogany floors polished to a mirror shine, gilded accents catching the warm glow of antique lamps. The scent of cedar, sandalwood, and faint leather filled the air, rich and intoxicating. Vera’s eyes widened despite herself. She wasn’t naïve — she had expected luxury — but this was something intimate, personal, private.

Kael moved beside her, close but not touching, yet she could feel his presence brushing against her awareness. He guided her with subtle gestures — a hand brushing along her back, a finger adjusting a sleeve that had shifted. Each touch, unspoken, deliberate, sent shivers she refused to acknowledge.

Aaron, moving ahead, called out practical instructions about rooms and security, but Vera hardly heard him. She was hyper-aware of Kael’s proximity, the way his coat brushed hers, the confidence in the tilt of his head, the silent assertion of control.

“You’re not putting your hands on me,” she said sharply.

He let the brush linger just a fraction. We will see about that darling he said quietly, though the weight of his presence said otherwise.

Aaron trailed behind, muttering, “I don’t know why I agreed to this…”

Kael guided her to the room he’d selected. The door opened to a space that was lavish and intimate. Cream-colored walls, a massive canopy bed draped in silk, a sitting area with plush chairs, a fireplace already lit. Shoes neatly aligned, handbags glinting gold-trimmed, clothes folded perfectly — every item her size. An iPad, her phone, and a few other personal touches neatly set on the desk.

Vera froze. “You… you even know my size?” Her voice was incredulous, tension and something else bubbling under her skin.

Kael’s lips curved faintly, just a hint. “I pay attention,” he said simply, stepping in, closing the door behind them. The air between them shrank, charged.

Aaron cleared his throat at the doorway. “I—I’ll be downstairs. Don’t… uh, don’t burn the place down or whatever.”

Thanks for the advice she whispered, barely audible.

Kael’s thumb brushed her jaw, tilting her face slightly toward him. “One moment,” he murmured, voice soft, intimate.

Her pulse spiked. Her mind screamed to move, resist, yet every inch of her was drawn closer despite herself.

Aaron’s voice cracked from the hallway again. “Uh… Kael? I, uh… I think there’s a problem downstairs with the—”

Kael’s head snapped, eyes narrowing sharply.

Aaron stumbled back, hands raised. “Not now,” Kael said, voice low but carrying authority that made Vera’s stomach twist. Aaron muttered and retreated.

Vera blinked, caught between relief and the lingering tension of Kael’s closeness. He leaned in, thumb brushing along her cheek, lips so near she felt the faint warmth of his breath. The world outside vanished.

Her fingers twitched at her sides. Uncertainty battled desire, resistance battled the draw toward him.

“Kael…” she whispered, voice trembling.

He tilted his head, moving just fractions closer. Lips hovered near hers, air taut, like a live wire. Heat and danger radiated from him in slow, deliberate waves.

Her heart pounded. She wanted to push, shove, scream — all at once. His gaze held her, unyielding, commanding, a silent claim without words.

He brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. His fingers lingered on her skin. Vera’s chest constricted, breaths shallow, her body betraying her, leaning slightly despite herself.

The tension stretched, thick, intimate, every nerve alive. Then a soft chime from her phone broke the spell. Vera flinched. Kael’s eyes flicked toward it, narrowing ever so slightly.

She looked down. iPad, phone, every detail laid out. More than she imagined. More than she expected.

A whisper escaped her: “How… how did you—”

Kael’s lips curved faintly. He leaned close, breath brushing hers.

Aaron’s voice echoed faintly again. I’m… I’m going to check the security feeds…

kael Don’t,” she whispered, barely audible.

He tilted her chin gently, thumb brushing against her jaw. “Do not say a word again”

Her pulse spiked. Every nerve screamed. Her body betrayed her will, leaning into him despite her determination to resist. Kael’s presence was a force she couldn’t ignore. His gaze dropped to her lips, tracing the subtle flush on her cheeks, the tremor in her breath.

“This… isn’t fair,” she whispered, voice trembling.

“Life rarely is,” he murmured, fingers brushing the strand of hair at her neck, dominance and intimacy coiling together.

Aaron’s voice came again, faint, hesitant. “Uh… Kael, something’s… at the gate.”

Kael froze, just slightly. Vera followed his gaze toward the balcony and then back to him, heart hammering. His jaw tightened, hand pressing lightly at her back, firm, steady, undeniable.

“Do not step out of this room,” he whispered, low, growling almost. The sensation wrapped her, suffocating and thrilling, making her knees weak, stomach twisting.

A soft thud echoed — another. Someone was inside.

Aaron’s voice, panicked, distant: “Uh… Kael, it’s—”

Kael silenced him with a subtle lift of his hand. Vera’s eyes stayed on him, racing, aware of every precise motion, every line of tension. Her own pulse thundered in response.

Something moved in the shadows outside the door, She swallowed hard, caught between fear.

Kael leaned slightly closer, lips brushing her temple. “Settle in… mi amore, we will finish this later,” he murmured, soft, intimate.

The words made her shiver from head to toe.

And just like that, he walked out, closing the door behind him.

Vera’s knees weakened, hands pressed against the wall for support. What just happened…? Her mind reeled. Her chest burned with frustration, anger, and something else she refused to name.

“I… I hate him…” she whispered through gritted teeth.

Her eyes darted to the balcony, to the vast grounds bathed in moonlight, the estate impossibly quiet. Then her gaze snapped toward the main gate.

Wait… who is at the gate? she asked herself, a chill crawling down her spine.

Vera’s POVIt had been a few days since everything happened between me, Kael, Lucian, Aaron… all of it.And everyone was pretending to be normal.Pretending. That was the best word for it.I was avoiding Kael.So I kept myself busy. From the garden in the morning, to the library in the afternoon, to the kitchen at night like cooking would somehow silence my head.It didn’t.And Lina…I wasn’t sure about Lina. One moment I felt like she was just a girl stuck in the middle of chaos she didn’t ask for.The next moment I remembered what she did.So I kept my distance.Safer that way.Or at least I told myself it was safer.Aaron was the bigger silence though. He had left with Lucian days ago and nobody really spoke about it after. No updates. No jokes. No annoying presence in the hallways.Just gone. And I hated that I noticed. That morning I was in the kitchen again, baking something I wasn’t even planning to eat, just because the heat and smell distracted me from thinking too much.Flou

Aaron’s POVI should’ve stayed in my room. That thought hit me halfway down the hallway, just before Lucian’s office door came into view. Too late now. The door was already open.He was inside, standing by the window, back to me, sleeves rolled up, phone in his hand. Calm. Controlled. Like he didn’t just spend the morning dismantling me piece by piece without raising his voice.I stepped in anyway.“Close the door.”I did. The click echoed louder than it should have.He didn’t turn immediately. Just finished whatever he was reading, set the phone down, then finally looked at me. And just like that—everything from last night came rushing back again.Talk, he said.I let out a breath, You didn’t answer me.His brow lifted slightly, You didn’t give me the chance.I stepped closer, frustration building fast now. “I said something I’ve been holding in for thirteen years, Lucian. Thirteen. And your response is to drag me to the gym, ignore me for an hour, and act like—”“Like what?” he cut

  • SAY MY NAME, WHEN YOU BREAK    CHAPTER 58

Aaron’s POV I woke up with my heart in my throat. Wrong ceiling. Wrong sheets. Wrong everything. Lucian’s room. And Lucian. He was on his side facing me, one arm under the pillow, breathing slowly and Shirtless. That dragon tattoo on his ribs rose and fell inches from my face. The one I’d stared at for thirteen years and never touched. _No. No no no._ Last night hit me like a freight train. The club. The car ride. The whiskey I never should’ve touched because I’m a lightweight idiot. His hand on my knee. “Talk to me, Aaron. You’ve been off all night.” And me — me with a mouth full of alcohol and years of shit I’d swallowed — just _breaking_. _I’ve loved you for Thirteen fucking years, Lucian. Since I was 11 and stupid. Since before I knew what it felt like to want someone who looks right through me. You happy? You got what you wanted?”_ I didn’t even remember his reaction. Because I passed out. Right there. In his arms. Like a damn amateur. Now it was morning. I

Vera’s POV The third shot hit different. Or maybe it was the bass. Or the way Aaron had stopped pretending he wasn’t scanning the crowd every 30 seconds like he was waiting for hell to walk through the door. Lina was already gone. Passed out on the leather couch, hair fanned out, mouth open. Dead to the world. “Lightweight,” Vera muttered, taking another sip. The alcohol burned, but not enough. Aaron smirked, but it didn’t land. His jaw was tight. He hadn’t touched his drink in 10 minutes. “We shouldn’t have left the house" “Too late,” Vera said. “You made your point.” He looked at her then. Really looked. “Did I?” Before she could answer, the air changed. You feel it in places like this. When the predator enters the room. The crowd doesn’t know why they’re parting — they just do. Aaron went rigid. Vera didn’t need to turn around. She knew. Kael. And Lucian. With their bodyguards. Lucian & Aaron Lucian didn’t say anything at first. He just walked up to the table, eyes

  • SAY MY NAME, WHEN YOU BREAK    CHAPTER 56

Vera’s POV The moment the guard left, the room went quiet again. Aaron leaned back slightly, watching her. Vera tilted her head just a little. That same look passed between them again. Lina saw it and immediately shook her head. “No.” Neither of them answered. “…No,” she repeated, stepping back like distance alone would save her. “I don’t like that silence. That silence means something stupid is about to happen.” Aaron exhaled slowly, dragging a hand over his jaw. “You say ‘stupid’ like it’s not relative.” “It’s not relative,” Lina shot back. “With you two, it’s always stupid.” Vera pushed off the chair, stretching slightly like she was just getting comfortable instead of planning something illegal under house arrest. “Relax.” “I don’t trust that word when it comes from you,” Lina replied immediately. “That sounds personal.” “It is personal,” Lina said flatly. “I just got my life back. I’m trying to keep it.” Aaron huffed out a quiet laugh, then glanced at Vera. “We can’

Vera's POV Vera stood near the window, arms folded, staring out at the compound. Guards everywhere. “Yeah,” Aaron’s voice came from behind her, lazy but sharp underneath, “I counted twelve just from here.” She didn’t turn. “There were six earlier.” “Exactly.” She exhaled slowly. “So we’re officially prisoners now.” “Soft version,” he said. “With better furniture.” That pulled a small breath out of her. Not quite a laugh. She turned, leaning her shoulder against the wall. “You tried leaving?” He tilted his head slightly. “I looked like I was going to try leaving.” “And?” “They stopped me before I even got close to the gate.” She raised a brow. “Stopped you how?” Aaron sat up a little straighter, mimicking the guard’s tone. “Sir, with all due respect, you’re not permitted beyond this point.” She folded her arms tighter. “And you listened?” He gave her a look. “Do I look like I listened?” That almost made her smile. “What did you do?” she asked. “I as

The school gates disappeared behind us as we drove, the afternoon sun dipping low, painting the campus in gold.
