How could Thomas be dead? Gerald repeated to himself a thousand times. He was fine yesterday. What could have happened in the space of hours to have warranted his death? Gerald was well drunk by the time Scarlett came to visit. She had asked from the butler about him and he'd relayed everything to her. She was surprised to hear how badly Gerald was taking everything but was glad to know Serena was no longer in the mansion. No one would be able to disturb her now. Knocking at his study room, she called out his name, awaiting a reply. " Go away." Came the slurred reply. Scarlett grimaced, walking in anyway. The room reeked of alcohol and whiskey and Gerald sat on his chair, his head on his hands. One wouldn't know he was drunk form his posture but the empty bottles said otherwise. Scrunching up her nose, she pulled up her gown as she made her way towards him. " Gerald, what is the meaning of this?" She called out as she got closer to him. He didn't budge. " What did you say?" Gerald asked, His low voice cutting through the silence of the room. John took a deep breath and continued with his explanation. He told Gerald that the cigarette had a toxic poison which once ingested, leads to chronic coughing and eventually, death. Gerald listened to his explanation, growing more confused. " So, you're telling me, Thomas didn't die of natural causes but someone tried to kill him?" He asked and john nodded. Burrowing his brows, he thought about it for a while. A lot of things didn't make sense to him. Why would someone want to kill Thomas and why? Who was it? He really needs to pay that police station another visit. " Okay, I've heard you. You're dismissed." Gerald muttered with a wave of his hand. John bowed and left. Straightening on seat, he palmed his throbbing head. A lot of things didn't make sense to him, unfortunately he wasn't in the mood to think about anything. Tomorrow was another day.

Scarlett visited again and this time Gerald was in a much better shape, although Serena hadn't yet returned. That, more than anything made her happy. It means her plan today would go without a hitch. She saw him in his office, working but he looked gloomy as ever. Only for a little while, she thought to herself. " I told you not see me anymore." Gerald muttered the moment she walked in. " Well, I can't help it. I'm worried about you." She muttered, going ahead to seat anyway. " She hasn't returned as she?" She asked, settling down to the seat in front of him. Scarlett awoke from her slumber, groaning as she stirred. She blinked her eyes open, the blurriness fading away. Her lips twitched but didn't quite form a smile as she remembered the night before. Sure, she had gotten what she wanted but it was at the expense of her dignity. She just hopes it will all be worth it. It had to be. She rose from the bed, her eyes darting around the large, empty room. Gerald was nowhere to be found. Her heart broke at the thought but then, what was she expecting? She grimaced as she stepped out of the bed, her sore muscles reminding her of the night she desperately wanted to forget right now. Wrapping a towel around herself, she proceeded to the bathroom to have a bath. She would find Gerald immediately after. It took a while for her to be through and she stepped out, drying herself out and wearing some light clothing. Taking a deep breath, she walked out of the room.
