LOGINThe facility was silent as a tomb.
Concrete walls, no windows, air that tasted like disinfectant an old fear. I had been in places like this before. They all smelled the same when you stripped away the bleach. Earlier Kael had come and he took Theo away to another room. The front doors blew inward with a roar of splintered metal and alarms, security scrambled, weapons raised, deep down I knew it was Lucien. He moved through them like a storm fast, brutal, precise. An S-class Alpha not on Suppressants was a natural disaster. I followed in his wake, keeping low, using the chaos to slip past, my mask was gone, my hoodie was too big, I looked like a kid who didn't belong in a firefight. Good they underestimated me. "Rian!". Lucien's voice cut through the noise, he had found me in under sixty seconds, of course you had, my scent was probably a bacon to him now. "Over here!". I shouted back, grabbing his arms as he passed. "Theo's in holding, level B2 and Kael's here". Lucien's jaw clenched at the name. "I know", he said. We took the stairs two at a time, the building shook as another blew, Voss Biotech had sent his private securities, he was not playing defense anymore. Level B2 was quieter, too quiet. Holding cell lined the hall, most were empty laced with something metallic and hot. "Heat, it's starting early". I said, voice tight. Lucien's expression darkened. "Stress trigger, they did this on purpose". I slammed my shoulder into the lock, it did not budge. "Move" Lucien said. He did not punch it, he didn't need to, his hand pressed against the panel and the metal groaned, warping under pressure no human should have. The lock spark died, the door swung open. Theo was on the floor, curled around yourself, shaking, sweat plastered his hair to his forehead. His scent was overwhelming-sweet, desperate, calling. Kael was in the cell with him. Kael stood when we entered, blocking Theo with his body, his eyes were wild, not with rut but with something worse. Control fraying at the edges. "Get out, now", Kael said to Lucien, voice low and dangerous. Lucien didn't move,"You triggered his heat". "I didn't have a choice", Kael said. He was going to die in there, I stabilized him". "By locking him in a cell with you?", I snapped, "You are not helping Kael, you are making it worse". Kael's eyes flickered to me, Recognition,Guilt, then anger. "You don't understand", he said "If I leave him his heat we will kill him, if I stay I will _". He Cut himself off, he didn't need to finish. An unbonded Alpha in a room with a heat stricken omega was a time bomb. Lucien stepped forward. "Then leave I will take him". Kael laughed, short and better. "You?, you would just replace me with yourself". "At least I won't pretend it's for his own good" Lucien said coldly. That was true he would not pretend, they were about to fight I could see it in the way their shoulders squared, scent clashing in the air like lightning, one thing was for sure, Kael was jealous but why, what kind of history does these two have. "Stop", Theo whispered. Both Alpha froze. Theo pushed himself up on shaky arms, face flushed, ice glassing. "Don't..... Don't fight over me". Kael knelt immediately, voice dropping. "Theo look at me, breathe". Theo shook his head, tears slipping down his cheeks. "It hurts, make it stop". Kael looked up at me, desperate cracking his composure. "You are a Enigma , you can help". I hesitated, helping meant getting close, getting close meant scenting and scenting meant risking a bond I couldn't control. But Theo was shaking so hard, I scared he would die. "Fine, but you both should stay back without fighting". I said, looking at Lucien, he was boiling with anger. I moved past Kael, kneeling in front of Theo. He flinched when I reached for him, but didn't pull away. "Hey, it's me Rian, I am here". I said softly. His eyes focused on me for a second, relief flickered through the pain. "Cold, I am cold", he whispered. "It's the heat, I know, I am going to help, okay?, just breathe with me". I let my own scent bleed out, carefully, controlled, Enigmas pheromones were not like Alpha or Omega, they didn't Force, the calmed and soothed. Theo's breathing evened out, the tremors eased. Behind me, Lucien made a low sound in his throat, possessive and unsettled. Kael watched with a look I couldn't read. "It's working", Kael said. "Thank you ". I did not answer, I was focused on Theo, on keeping my own instincts in check. "Get him out of here, now". I said without looking back. Lucien moved first, He swept Theo into his arms like he weighed nothing, Theo didn't resist, he was too far gone. Kael followed, but stopped at the door. "Rian" he called. I did not turn. "I owe you, both of you". he said "You can pay me back by staying out of our way". I said. He didn't argue, the door closed behind him. I stayed on the floor for a long moment, head in my hands, my own heat was low, persistent, ache now. Being around to heat stricken people wasn't helping. Footsteps, Lucien was back alone, of course he would come back. "Where is Theo?", I asked. "Secure with my medic, he will be fine". He knelt in front of me, close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off him. "Are you okay?". "No, I am not", I said honestly. His hands came up, hesitating before brushing my cheek, "Do you want me to stop?". I looked at him, cold eyes, dark with need and restraint. "Don't ask me that, you know what I will say", I whispered. He did not touch him, he did not kiss me, he just stayed there breathing with me, letting his scent wrap around me like a shield. That was not what I wanted, but I could not say anything. "Then we wait, together". he said.I nodded, resting my back on the couch. His hand was warm, he went still when he felt it.A small flutter under his palm.Rian's eyes closed, when he opend them they were wet."Hi," he whispered to my stomach. "I'm your dad and I will always protect you and papa, I love you both, always remember that."I smiled because he always say that anytime the baby kicks, then my nose twistched, my hole body did."Damn,"I said, my voice came out rough. "You're standing too close and your scent is-""What? Bad?""Overwhelming," I turned my face away, my ears were red. "What am I supposed to do."Rian laughed and leaned in just a little more, just enough that his scent wrapped around me completely."Sorry," Rian whispered, but he didn't sound sorry, he pressed a kiss on the top of my belly. "I will stop if you want me to."I didn't answer.Victory lit up Rian's face, he settled properly between my legs on the floor, arms around my belly now, talking nonsense."So, kid, your papa is still going to
"Don't," I backed away. "You're the head, you lied to me, you let me think you were just- just some agent, you let me think-" "I know," Rian said, he looked wrecked. "I know." "Did you plan it?" the question tore out of me. "The attacks? The dangers? Did you put yourself in danger just to keep me close." Rian flinched. "Some of it," he admitted, voice raw. "I made choices, bad ones, to keep you close and also to keep you safe." "And the rest?" "The rest was Ilyana," Rian said. "I tried to tell you many times but I couldn't tell you, I was scared of you hating me for taking your place as the head and also me being a top, but if you want the ring back I will return it, it has always been yours but please don't leave me." I shook my head, tears were burning. "You idiot, do you even remember what we went through, we almost died because of your stupid game, do you think I'm angry because my father gave you the ring and made you the head of the council and Voss Biotech? Damn
"Rian," I said. "Don't scare the doctor."He looked at me then the rage bled out of him, leaving only fear."Yes," he whispered. It was only when we were leaving that I noticed it.How the nurses stepped aside, how the security guards bowed their heads. Everyone in R.L. Sanctum looked at Rian like he owned the place. But I was too tired to ask.In the car, Rian's hand never left my stomach."What should we name our baby," he asked. "And I want twins?"I huffed a laugh despite everything. "Should we go back and ask the doctor to give us twins?"Rian smiled, small and real. "No, but I'm not opposed to trying for them but we can go home and make it two.""You are crazy," I said with a smile. The car stopped at a red light."Why were you following me?" I asked.Rian opened his mouth-Six black SUVs cut us off."Out of the vehicle, hands up. You are under arrest by order of the council."Task Force.Rian didn't even look surprised."Rian, run," I whispered. "Please."He turned to me, squee
"I'm going alone." I met his eyes. "Please."For a long moment he just stared at me, that muscle in his jaw was jumping, when Rian was angry or scared, he got very quiet."Fine," he said finally, "R.L. Sanctum hospital, I want you to go there."I frowned. "Why R.L?""They are the best private care in the city.""Fine."Rian's hands came up to frame my face, his thumb brushed under my eyes."You look terrible, love," he whispered."Don't say that.""I'm joking, you are the cutest Alpha I have ever met." he said.I frowned, he kissed my forehead then my temple then the spot behind my ear, his teeth grazed me and I shivered."Go," he said against my skin. "Before I change my mind and tie you to the bed."I left before he could see how much I liked that idea. The car ride was hell.Every pothole made my stomach roll, every billboard smell made me gag, by the time I pulled into R.L sanctum's parking garage, I was sweating and pale. Why would someone name a hospital R.L sanctum? The hospita
Our pheromones tangled in the air, mine sharp and steady, his hot and wild.It wrapped around us and we were still kissing until I couldn't tell where I ended."Rian," I gasped. He pulled back, breathing hard. "Should I stop."He looked at me, sweaty, desperate and eyes begging me, and I thought about Eli. About partial bonds tearing people apart, about how tired I was of running from this."I'm not in the mood to fight it anymore," I said. "I've accepted it."Rian blinked. "Accepted what?""The bond and all that comes with you," I said, flat and honest.Rian expression cracked, relief, something softer and a smirk that says. I know, you already accepted a long time ago.He leaned in and pressed his forehead to mine."Then...""Mark me," I said. "Again, this time I'm aware of it."Rian nodded. His teeth found the spot on my neck, right where my scent gland was, he bit down, not to hurt but to claim.Warmth flooded through me, the bond snapped into place, faint and frayed.I cried out
The chopper touched down on the roof of my house and I swear my knees almost gave out the second the rotors stopped.Kael carried Theo out of the chopper, he hadn't let go of his hand the entire flight."Get him inside," Dr. Selene said, the moment we hit the roof. "Now."We moved. My living room turned into a makeshift clinic in 30 seconds, monitors, bags, that sharp hospital smell. Dr. Selene was already cutting Theo's sleeve to get an IV, while Kael paced like a caged animal."Talk to me," Kael said. His voice was low but I heard the panic under it. "What did they do to him?""He's breathing," Dr. Selene said without looking up. "His vitals are stable but I need to check the compound levels."Rian's jaw ticked. "The suppressant reversal.""Yeah," Dr. Selene said. "That shit is nasty, it forces the body to burn through suppressants and floods the system with raw hormones, for an Omega, especially one who's-"She stopped, looked up then looked directly at Theo's stomach. The room we
RIAN POV Dawn came too fast. No sunrise through the safehouse windows, just the artificial grey of pre-dawn and the low hum of the city waking up without us. Lucien had the car idling out back by 5:12 Kael was already checking out the main exits, moving like a man who had slept with one eye o
The safehouse did not feel safe. It was too small, too bare - one bed, one bathroom, a kitchenette that looked like it had not been used in years, Voss Biotech owned a dozen of places like this. Lucien called it off-grid and I called it a gilded cage with better locks. Theo was two rooms down, s
The safehouse smelled like bleach and blood. I knew that smell, it meant someone had tried to clean up a mess but had not been fast enough, my hands were bound behind my back with zip ties that bit into my skin, but i did not struggle, struggling only made it worse and I was expecting this. Two
RIAN POV The alarm didn't scream, it humed. I was awake before it finished its first cycle, that's what years of running does to you. Lucien was already on his feet, gun in hand, moving toward the door. Kael was outside, shouting orders I couldn't hear through the reinforced steel. "Stay
