CHAPTER 28

CARLY

Carly lay in her bed, staring up at the ceiling. She had finally stopped her pacing. She was able to shower and get comfortable in bed, but still, James was in the back of her mind. She hadn't heard from him. It was strange. Just maybe she'd be lucky and he wouldn't contact her. Even if he did, maybe this time she could get away with her lie. He could always tell when she was lying and she hated it. But, she could always tell when he was lying as well. Maybe things would turn out differently this time. If he didn't reach out tonight, it would give her time to be convincing about her father still being home. Her cell rang. She sat up quickly, looking at her screen. It was James. She was a little too hopeful. If she ignored his call, she'd be in more trouble, so she picked it up.
