KAHLAN AND ASHLEY I rolled over to my side, putting my face into the extra soft pillow on my bed, trying to hide my sensitive eyes from the sun, which shined through my bedroom window. I groaned, as I was prepared to close my eyes and return back to my deep sleep, but then I remembered I still had school today. Curse Jason Fleming for having a party on a school night, but I guess he took the chance while he could. Not everyone was emancipated and didn't live with their parents. SANDINO AND BROOKE Sandino arrived much later to school than what he usually did. He probably had too many drinks last night. Oh well, he couldn't take it back. Since he was kind of behind schedule, he didn't get a chance to see Kahlan, which is what he really wanted to do. First, he wanted to apologize once more and then follow that, with many thank yous. Kahlan really stuck herself out there for him, for a person that she barely knew. Part of him wondered if there was a reason for that? He had been feeling something for Kahlan, he couldn't explain it. They were small little flutters. Was she feeling them too? He hadn't seen Brooke either. She was most likely overly upset with him. That would be a good thing. It would give her an excuse to avoid him and any feelings he had for her would fade and just maybe, he could analyze the ones he had for Kahlan. CHAD AND SANDINO The next day Chad had waited in the cafeteria for Kahlan and Sandino. They never showed. Kahlan didn't even show up for first period. So, during the six minute passing period, he decided to find Ashley. She and Kahlan seemed like they had built a friendship, and she was the only girl Kahlan talked to, so maybe she knew where she was. "Hey, have you seen Kahlan?" Chad asked Ashley once he had caught up with her. She held a large amount of books in her arms, walking fast to be sure that she wasn't late. Chad, however, was taking the risk. "No." She answered. "Not since yesterday. Why? Are you planning on apologizing and asking for her forgiveness?" She hadn't known the situation word for word, but any person who was smart, and witnessed the argument could catch on quickly. Chad had feelings for Kahlan. The same goes for Sandino. That put a little damper on the boys relationship, but that didn't give Chad the excuse to act and say the things he said. Ashley had a few

KAHLAN I pulled into a driveway, eyes stuck on the blue home that was in front of me. At first, I was scared. My home and happy memories seemed to be ruined. Still, when I thought hard enough, I could push past all the bad and see a light. That light held the moments in life that I treasured. A smile came upon my face. It still looked exactly the same. The light blue paint still looked fresh with the white boarding around the windows and doors. I got out of my beat down red vehicle, taking notice in the FOR SALE sign that was posted up. I was talked into selling the house, though I wasn't sure if I truly wanted to or not. I still had a key. The locks had never been changed, just for this reason, if I wanted to come back someday. The house was lit up brighter than usual because of the rising sun. In a way I felt like I was being invited in. With a deep breath, I made my way to the door. CARLY Carly finally stopped crying. Most of her tears had dried up on her cheeks. Her body was sprawled out against the stairs. Her back and legs stung with pain and any small movement made the pain that much worse. She was too weak to move, to call for help. So she lay there. Her eyes began to close slowly, and then just like that, she was out cold. She had no idea how much time had passed, but it felt like she had been lying there for hours, days even. She tried to fight it, but in the end she was defeated by the tiredness. CHAD AND ASHLEY Chad sat in his third period class, his eyes wandering, darting back and forth. He didn't know why. It was clear that Kahlan was out for the day. Part of him hoped that it would change and she would come in late. Ashley caught his glances towards the door. "Don't even bother looking for her," the young girl spoke, catching his attention, "She's not here. You must've really upset her." Would she really not show up for school because of a little

KAHLAN AND DAMON "So how is school going?" Damon asked me, "I know you've gotten in to some trouble, but you've made friends right? And a boy likes you. How are your grades?" I chuckled to myself. It was like I was in therapy. I guess that would never change. After all, he was my therapist and we were going to be trapped in a car together all day. "One question at a time, jeez. Grades are good, so far, considering I haven't been going there for very long. I guess I have friends...mainly boys, but I think this is better, there is less drama." Less drama? ROBERT Mr. Woods was always the last person to exit the plane. It was standard and respectful for the captain. He had left his daughter two days ago, and now found himself missing her, as he always did, but something was different. He had a gut feeling that he should call and check in. He nodded at future passengers, waved and gave out what few Captain stickers he had in his pants to the children. He loved his job. It was great pay, he met many people and got to see different places. It was a blessing to him, it seemed like a curse for Carly. All she wanted was her father to be home. He wouldn't lie, he had missed some of the important things a young girl goes through; first school dance to her first date, to cheerleading competitions. He wished his wife were here. She had died giving birth to Carly. A risk they were aware of when a child is breech, and having to go into an emergency c-section. The day his daughter was born, he lost the woman he loved. KAHLAN AND CHAD Chad and I sat in the waiting room, alone, in silence. Ashley had left to be at her best friend's bedside, just like I wanted her to be. Though I know it was best for Carly, I wished Ashley hadn't left us. The situation between Chad and I was a bit awkward. I tried not to look his way, as he sat in the chair beside me, but I could feel his eyes on me. He obviously wanted to say something to me, and I did want to talk to him...eventually.
