~THE TWINS~
Amy waited and waited. She stared at the black screen of the television set, wondering if she should turn it on to pass the time. It had been thirty minutes since Amy went and made Mya get ready to go out. It usually didn’t take her that long. Amy gave her the benefit of the doubt. With everything going on, she may just be lacking in energy and motivation, therefore moving at a slower pace. How long was she going to wait? Not too much longer. Another five minutes passed and still nothing. Amy found herself stomping up the wooden stairs to the second floor, going straight to Mya’s door. “Mya!” Amy yelled, “Open the door.” She kicked the bedroom door with her foot.
“I’m not going!” Mya yelled back. Amy let out a growl and began knocking non-stop. Mya finally snatched open the door.
~THE GROUP~“You did good!” Carly said, “At first I honestly thought you would crash and burn.” I chuckled. We headed out of the stadium towards the school parking lot. The game was over and we won. Now that I looked back, I had no reason to be nervous. The crowd was there for the game and that’s where most of their attention was for the night. “Carly, wait up!” Ashley yelled running over to us. She breathed, trying to catch her breath. She must have had a hard time making her way through the crowd to catch up to us. “Do you guys know where we’re celebrating?” I shrugged. It was the first time I was hearing something about a celebration. But we’re teens. Of course we want to celebrate anything and everything. We like the idea of drinking, smoking and sex. At our age it was normal. “I have no idea. Justin told us to meet him at the parking lot.” Ashley stared at Carly. It was like she refused to make any eye contact with me. At that moment Brandon pulled up in his dad’s truck. “Lad
~KAHLAN AND SANDINO~Silence. That was all I was getting from Sandino. When I took him away from the victory party and suggested a walk I thought he would be an open book. I was wrong. He kept his hands hidden in his pants pockets, his lanky body swayed slightly from side to side with every step, and his brown eyes stared out in front of us. There was nothing out there but calm waves, a dark sky and sand that was still warm from the heat of the day. It was clear that I was going to have to be the one to start the conversation. "So, what’s going on with you?" I asked."Not much," he responded, not making the effort to look at me. "What about you?""Nothing," I answered with the shake of my head. There was more silence. "How are Brooke and the baby?" Sandino glanced over at me with a smile.
~KAHLAN, CARLY AND KATE~ Kate stayed out of view from Carly, but still followed behind her, waiting for her to lead her to Kahlan; her daughter. And eventually she did. She saw Carly talking to a young girl in a cheerleading uniform. She had her hair up in a high ponytail, and white bangs lay in front of her left eye. Kate's mouth dropped. Her daughter had grown and she was beautiful."Hey there," I said to Carly when she came up behind me. She gave a smile, staring around at their fellow peers. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Their football team has won previous games, but something about this one was different. Something about this entire night was different. “What took you so long?”"Dad made me meet his girlfriend," she b
~KAHLAN AND DAMON~Carly and I were in mid conversation when Damon and his little brother walked up. I quickly zipped my lip, and there was an awkward silence. Carly felt it as well, but she was quick to try and start a conversation to take away some of the silence and awkwardness."Hey Damon," Carly replied, "How are you?" Damon put his hands in his jean pockets. He wore a red long sleeve T-shirt."I'm good, you?" Before Carly could even answer, I butted in."What are you even doing here?" I asked. Mike flashed an uncomfortable look. Carly stared me in the face as if I were being rude. It was rude for Damon to walk up to me and interrupt the conversation that I was having with Carly."Well, Mikey and I heard about the part
~KAHLAN~I lay in bed, going over everything Damon had just told me in the car. First off, my mother was alive and well and in Florida. Second, Damon had lied to me. It now made sense why he believed I broke things off with him because of my mother. Why does everyone I love lie to me? When Damon dropped me off, the last thing he said was “I’m sorry”. I never responded. I jumped out of the car and ran into my house. He of course followed me, but there was no way in hell I was going to let him in. Now what? What was my next move? I knew Kate Mercer was alive, but where did she go? Is she shacked up in some old broken down hotel? Is she staying with a friend? And how was I going to find her? ~CARLY AND KATE~Carly quietly crept into her house. She didn’t want to wake anyone up, and she didn’t want her father to know that she came home three long hours after her 12:00 am curfew. She was about to head upstairs, when she spotted the kitchen light on. She made her way down the hallway, and
~CARLY~ As Carly drove to Kahlan’s house, she went over last night’s party in her mind. It was a great party, one of the first ones she had been to alone, without a date, and without James Blake. And she had fun. There was no walking on eggshells, or being careful about pissing people off, or wondering who it was ok to socialize with. Her mind felt at ease, until Micheal Meir showed up. She thought that everything that happened would just be a distant memory, something that would never be brought up and hopefully forgotten in time, but it wasn’t. Micheal brought it up. It was a secret she had to tell now in order to figure out what she was going to do next. She had to tell Kahlan. It was bad enough that in some odd way she felt guilty that she did what she did, but in another way, it felt as if she had finally gotten her revenge. Was that wrong? Yes it was. Micheal was innocent and yet he cou
~KAHLAN AND CARLY~Carly repeatedly knocked on Kahlan’s door. It's days like this that she wished she still had a key to Kahlan’s home. By the time she answered Carly’s knuckles hurt slightly from all the pounding.“Carly, what do you want?” Kahlan swung the door open with such force. The young woman was wrapped in a towel and dripping wet. Carly must have disturbed her swimming.“Oh, don’t be a grouch,” Carly replied, taking in the redness of her friend's eyes. Could that be from the chlorine, could she not have gotten a good night's rest, or had she been crying? “I need to talk to you.” Carly stares waiting for Kahlan to let her in. Kahlan took a deep breath.“Car
~KAHLAN, KATE, AND CARLY~“I can't… I can’t believe,” my voice trailed off as I stared at my mother. I dreamed of this moment, and what I would say. Dreamed? I dreamed of this… this surprise that was supposed to be happy… but that’s not what I was feeling. I thought that when this moment occurred, I’d run into my mother’s arms, hug her tightly, and tell her how much I missed and loved her. But none of those actions had entered my mind. I was supposed to be happy, but instead I was furious. “You have some nerve showing up here.” Kate stares. Carly stood by and watched, trying to understand.“I know I haven’t been around,” Kate started, “And believe me when I say I am sorry. But it doesn’t matter where I’ve been, what does matter is that I am here now.” I stood tall.
