MasukChapter 5
~Lucien~• Three days. It had only been three days since Selena started working as my assistant for record keeping, and I had to admit she was exceptional. She learned quickly, worked diligently, and showed a dedication I hadn’t expected from someone so young. I’d even set a trap for her through Rowan, giving her a complex task that would trip up most experienced workers. But she’d handled it perfectly, impressing both me and my beta. Now, I trusted her even more. But trust wasn’t the only thing I felt. I leaned back in my chair. I couldn’t deny it anymore I liked her. Found her attractive. The innocent way she bit her lip when she concentrated, the graceful way she moved, the soft sound of her voice when she spoke. After the death of my wife five years ago, I’d never felt anything like this. I’d closed that part of myself off, focused solely on being Alpha, on leading my pack. But Selena had somehow slipped past my defenses without even trying. But you can’t have her, I reminded myself firmly. Not with the history. Not with Damon. My son had rejected her, humiliated her. Taking an interest in her now would cause chaos within the pack, within my own family. No matter how much my wolf wanted her. The door to my office burst open without warning. I looked up sharply to find Damon striding in, his expression dark with anger. “We need to talk,” he said, not bothering with proper protocol. I raised an eyebrow. “You might want to knock next time.” “This can’t wait.” He crossed his arms. “I want to know why Selena is working so closely with you. Why you’ve given her a position of authority in this pack.” “My reasons are my own,” I replied calmly. “And they have nothing to do with your relationship—or lack thereof— with her.” “Relationship?” Damon scoffed. “There is no relationship. I rejected her. She’s nothing to me.” “Then why do you care where she works?” His jaw clenched. “Because she’s clearly up to something. She’s trying to…” “The girl is good at what she does,” I interrupted, my voice taking on an edge. “That’s all that matters to me. Her work performance is excellent, and that’s the only criteria I use when choosing who serves in my office.” “But Father….” The door opened again, and Rowan entered with Selena following behind him. They’d just returned from the errand I’d sent them on. Rowan stepped forward immediately. “Alpha, the task is complete. And I have to say, Selena’s insight was invaluable. She caught several discrepancies in the border patrol reports that I’d completely missed. She’s incredibly thorough.” I noticed the slight blush coloring Rowan’s cheeks as he spoke about Selena. Interesting. “What is your plan, Selena?” Damon demanded, turning on her suddenly. “What game are you playing?” Selena’s eyes widened with perfect innocence. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Damon. I’m just doing my job.” “Don’t act stupid. You’re clearly trying to….” “Rowan,” I interrupted, my voice cold and commanding. “Escort my son out of my office. Now.” Damon’s head whipped around to stare at me. “What? Father, you can’t be serious….” “I’m deadly serious. Get out.” Rowan moved immediately, gripping Damon’s arm firmly. “Come on. Let’s go.” “This is ridiculous!” Damon protested as Rowan physically guided him toward the door. “You’re actually choosing her side over mine?” “I’m choosing productivity over drama,” I said flatly. “Now leave.” The door closed behind them, and silence fell over my office. “Thank you, Alpha Lucien,” Selena said softly. “You didn’t have to…” “It’s fine.” I stood up from my desk, needing to move, to put some distance between us. But as Selena turned to gather her papers, something slipped from her hands, a pen or maybe a folder and clattered to the floor. She bent down quickly to retrieve it. And my breath caught in my throat. The neckline of her blouse gaped open as she leaned forward, revealing the soft curve of her breasts, the delicate line of her collarbone. I caught just a glimpse before I forced myself to look away, heat rushing through my body. Don’t look. Don’t think about it. My wolf wanted her, but the man in me knew he shouldn’t.Chapter 6~Selena~I smirked to myself as I straightened up from picking up the pen. I had purposely worn this dress today and I had deliberately bowed down like that for the Alpha to see. To get him tempted. And judging by that look in his eyes, the way his jaw clenched and his hands gripped the edge of his desk, he was definitely getting affected. My plan was working perfectly.“I’m so sorry, Alpha,” I said, my voice dripping with false innocence as I pressed a hand to my chest. “I didn’t mean to bow like that. Something felt off.”“It’s… okay.” His voice came out strained, tight, like he was struggling to maintain his composure.Inside, I was celebrating. I loved this. Loved seeing the powerful, commanding Alpha Lucien struggle because of me. Loved knowing that I had this effect on him. It made me feel powerful in a way I hadn’t felt since Damon’s rejection.Perfect, Kyra purred inside my mind. He wants us. I can feel it.I could feel it too. The tension in the room was thick, elec

Chapter 4 ~Selena~• I woke up to sunlight streaming through my window and immediately reached for my phone. 11:07 AM. My heart stopped. “No, no, no!” I shot out of bed so fast I almost fell. The Alpha had told me to resume at 9 AM. I was over two hours late on my very first day! I threw on my clothes as quickly as I could, not even bothering to check if they matched properly. My hair was a mess, but I didn’t have time to fix it. I just ran a brush through it a few times and bolted out of my room. I was halfway down the corridor when I nearly collided with someone. “Whoa, easy there.” I looked up to find a tall man with black short hair and kind eyes watching me with amusement. He wore the official pack beta insignia on his jacket. “Rowan,” I breathed, recognizing him as Alpha Lucien’s beta. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to…” “The Alpha is calling for you,” he said, his expression becoming more serious. “He wants to see you in his office. Now.” My stomach dropp
Chapter 3 ~Selena~• Even though the Alpha had rejected my offer yesterday, I found myself at the training grounds again the next morning. I’d spent the entire night thinking, planning, strategizing. I couldn’t seduce the Alpha in broad daylight with everyone watching. I needed to be smarter than that. I needed to get closer to him first. So today, I had a different plan. A better one. Throughout the training session, I felt the stares. Heard the whispers that followed me like shadows. “That’s the girl Damon rejected.” “Can you imagine? Your own sister…” “She has no shame, showing her face here.” Each word was a knife to my heart, but I kept my chin up. I pretended their words didn’t hurt, even though they cut deep. I had to be strong now. Weakness wouldn’t get me what I wanted. When training finally ended, I didn’t waste time. I went straight to the spot where I’d seen the Alpha yesterday, positioning myself where I knew he’d pass by. My heart hammered in my ches
Chapter 2 ~Selena~• I stumbled backward, my legs finally giving out beneath me. I collapsed right there in front of the Alpha, my body hitting the cold stone floor as sobs tore from my throat. I couldn’t hold it in anymore. The pain of the rejection, the betrayal, the humiliation, it all came crashing down at once. “Are you alright?” The Alpha’s voice was deep, concerned even. But I couldn’t answer. I couldn’t form words past the tears choking me. All I could do was cry, my whole body shaking with the force of it. I heard his footsteps beginning to walk away, and something inside me snapped. I forced myself to stand, my legs wobbling beneath me. “You could do a better job training your son!” The words burst out of me before I could stop them. “Maybe then he’d know how to treat people with respect!” The air went completely still. In an instant, cold steel pressed against my throat. One of the Alpha’s guards had moved faster than I could see, her sword already drawn a
Chapter one~Selena~•I couldn’t stop smiling as I cradled the bouquet of wildflowers in my arms. I’d picked them myself that morning, daisies, lavender, and baby’s breath tied with a simple white ribbon. In three weeks, I would stand before the pack and officially mate with Damon, the Alpha’s son. Tonight was supposed to be special. He’d invited me to dinner in his private chamber, something he rarely did.My heart fluttered with nervous excitement as I climbed the stairs to his wing of the packhouse. The flowers felt light in my hands, but my chest felt full— overflowing with hope and love and all the dreams I’d been building for our future together. But when I reached his door, I froze at the sound that occupied my ears.Moans, low and breathless, filtering through the door.Everything went wrong all at once. My head started pounding. Cold sweat broke out across my skin even as heat flushed through my body. My wolf whimpered inside me, sensing something terrible before my mind coul
