Nick held my coat as I led him out of the room. I gently took his injured hand in mine as we walked downstairs. “What happened up there? Is he okay?” Kyle asked as he walked over to us. “Yes, sir. I'm fine,” Nick replied, quickly pulling his hand away from mine. He winced the moment he did. “How did you hurt your hand?” Kyle asked, noticing the injury. I sighed and took his hand into mine again. “I need a first aid kit,” I said to Kyle. Kyle looked at me for a moment before giving a small nod. We followed him to his office, where he placed the first aid kit on the table. “I've got some business to take care of in the club. I'll check on you later,” Kyle said. I nodded, and he left the room. “I need to check if there are any glass shards in them,” I told Nick. He stayed quiet and just stared at me. I opened the first aid kit and took out the cotton wool and tweezers before carefully removing the pieces of glass. He winced and bit his lip as I gently removed them. “I didn't mean to hurt you,” I said softly. He slowly clenched his injured fist. “Which exactly do you mean?” he asked and I fell silent. I knew what he meant. Even after the kiss we shared, my feelings were still there. They hadn't changed. I turned to him, gently patted his head, and gave him a small smile. I cleaned the cuts on his face with methylated spirit before looking up at him. “Do you want me to take you to the hospital?” I asked and he shook his head. “I'm fine,” he replied quietly, covering his face with his palm. I watched him for a moment before gently pulling his hand away. His eyes were filled with tears. I wrapped my arms around his neck and rested my forehead against his. “Hey,” I whispered and he sniffled softly. “I'm sorry things turned out this way between us,” I said. “But I promise we'll be okay.” He slowly shook his head. “I don't care,” he murmured. “As long as I have you to myself.” I couldn't help but smile. Then I leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. What did I really want? This. I had to protect him because I wanted him by my side now. And if this was truly my choice, then I'd have to make the right decisions in keeping him safe. I pulled him closer, and he snuggled against me before resting his head on my shoulder. “What... What about Vanya and Miss Douglas?” he asked and I stayed quiet. I hadn't even thought about them. Wait a second. I raised a brow slightly and turned to look at him. “Vanya?” I asked and he slowly nodded. A small laugh escaped my lips, but he only stared at me. “What?” he asked. I reached over and ruffled his hair. “So that's who you thought Vanya was?” I asked with a small smile. “My lover?” He nodded again. I chuckled softly and tapped the tip of his nose. “Then who is she?” he asked. “My stepsister,” I replied and his eyes widened. “Your... your stepsister?” I nodded. He covered his face with one hand, and I noticed his ears turning red. He was clearly embarrassed. Before either of us could say anything, the door suddenly flew open. Kyle walked in with a tired sigh. The moment Nick saw him, he quickly stood up and bowed his head. “I'll get going, then,” he said before slipping out of the room without giving me a chance to stop him. I turned to Kyle. “What is the matter?” I asked as I crossed one leg over the other. “Do you have any idea who you injured tonight?” Kyle asked and I simply looked at him. “What were you thinking?” he continued. “He tried to touch Nick,” I said as I picked up the cigar on his table and lit it with the lighter. “Yeah, and that's exactly why this matters,” Kyle said and I let out a quiet sigh. Kyle sat down and rubbed his temple. “His uncle runs several crime syndicates here. If you want to protect Nick, keep him away from danger first,” he said. My breath caught in my throat. Fuck. Was I actually scared? “I'll go talk to him, then,” I said. Just then, Vanya walked in. “No need. I already spoke to him... in my own way,” she said and we both turned to look at her. “If you want to investigate your mother's death before something happens to you,” Vanya said. “Stay away from anything or anyone that makes you forget who you really are,” Vanya said, staring straight into my eyes. “What does that have to do with anything?” I asked. “Nick... he's changing you,” she said with a sigh, trying to hold back her anger. I could tell she was upset, even if her face didn't show it. “I'm going home,” she said before walking out of the office, leaving Kyle and me in silence. What if I didn't survive, and I never found out the truth about my mother's death? This wasn't how I planned for things to go. Mother was the whole reason I came here. “See if you can find anything else, Kyle,” I said. He looked at me for a moment before letting out a sigh. “Don't let her words get to you,” he said and I scoffed and rose to my feet. “I need to get my hands on solid evidence as soon as possible,” I said. He gave a sigh before nodding. I walked toward the door, then stopped and turned back to look at him. “I'm taking Nick home. He needs to take care of his hands,” I told him and he nodded. “I don't disagree with your decision. Just make sure he's safe while he's in your care,” Kyle said. “And be careful, Vadim.” I gave him a small nod and walked out of the office. He was right. I had to be extra careful with Nick. Hearing Kyle call me by my real name reminded me of who I truly was... and why I had to protect the people I cared about. I let out a quiet sigh as I stepped out of the office and made my way downstairs to Nick.NICK WALKER ©I always held Enzo close whenever we were together, and it includes this moment also.I sometimes get the fear that he might run from my arms and I can't explain where that feeling came from.Maybe I wasn't wrong to feel that way. For a moment, it felt like I was about to lose him.But he was here again, his tongue stuck in mine. He pulled away from me and stared at my bleeding wrist. The cloth wrapped around it was already soaked with blood. He let out a sigh and turned to leave, but I quickly grabbed his shirt. He looked back at me and ruffled my hair, giving me a short smile before gently removing my hand from his shirt. Then he walked out of the gym, leaving me alone.I stared down at my wrist. It hurt, but I barely registered the pain.My mind was too focused on Enzo.I couldn't stop thinking about him.I looked across the large gym and noticed cigarettes and ashes scattered across the floor.Everything was a mess. NICK WALKER ©After my conversation with Mr. Kyle that day, I still couldn't get hold of Enzo for another three days.Mr. Kyle wasn't letting me see him because his men kept stopping me. Even when he left his office, one thing or another always stopped me from getting to him.My head was a mess. Back at home, I had planned a small outing for Mira and Mom without telling either of them. But it turned into a failure, just like I expected.Mira and I had a fight before I left home for work.Enzo still wasn't replying to my messages.I pressed my lips together and stared at the entrance of the bar."What's got you thinking?" Shawn asked as he stood in front of the counter."Ah. Nothing, really," I said with a forced smile.I suddenly spotted Mr. Kyle leaving his office upstairs with his men. I quickly grabbed my phone."Where are you going?" Shawn asked as I left my station.“Uh, the bathroom. Cover for me for a while,” I told him before walking outside. Before I could get to him, his men
NICK WALKER ©The exams were over, and the holiday had finally started. But I hadn't been able to reach Enzo for the past three days.He hadn't come to my house, and I hadn't seen him at work either. He wasn't replying to my texts or answering my calls.I couldn't stop worrying.I just wanted to know if he was okay. Was he sick?“Aren't you going to eat?” Avery asked as we sat down for lunch.I sighed as I stared at the food in front of me.“If you're not going to eat it, give it to me,” Avery said, pulling my plate toward herself.Seriously? Before she could take another bite, Mira smacked the back of Avery's hand with her spoon and pulled the plate back to me.“Ow! That hurt.”“Mira, apologize,” I said quickly as I took Avery's hand to check it.“How did you even choose her as your friend?” Mira asked, shaking her head as she continued eating.“He wasn't eating. You didn't have to be so harsh,” Avery said, rubbing the spot where Mira had hit her.“Well... sorry,” Mira mumbled.Avery
LORENZO GRAYSON \ VADIM KERZHAKOV ©My phone had been ringing nonstop the entire drive home. It was still ringing when I walked through the front door. I tossed it across the spacious living room and headed upstairs.I grabbed a travel bag and opened the drawer to get my passport. Then I looked at my reflection before sliding the mirror aside, revealing the weapons hidden behind it.I picked a few of them and reached for my phone again. I'd already sent Kyle a message, asking him to book me a flight back to Russia.I rushed back downstairs and searched for the phone I'd thrown across the living room.“Where the fuck is it?” I yelled as I searched the lounge and the kitchen connected to it.Just then, I heard a car screech to a stop outside the house. It was Kyle.I grabbed my bag and hurried to his car.“The ticket?” I asked as I walked up to him.“What's going on?” he asked.I ran a hand through my hair and let out a frustrated sigh.“Kyle, I fucking need the ticket.”“Not until you

I could wait.“ She said.“You should go. It'll take a while.“ I said.I clenched my hands on the device in my palm as I headed to the office.I needed to know what was on the drive.I unlocked the door, walked over to my laptop, and plugged it in.I searched through the files and found only one video.I clicked play.“Move it,” someone said from the video. It looked like an underground room, with several men standing around. Then I saw my mother.I furrowed my brows and paused the video. Why was Mom in the video?I pressed play and kept watching as they dragged her by the arms while she tried to break free. Then it hit me.This was connected to the day she died. She was wearing the same clothes she had on when they found her body. They threw her onto the floor, and my breath caught in my thr
LORENZO GRAYSON \ VADIM KERZHAKOV©The moment I realized what had happened at the college last night, my thoughts went straight to my father.Antonio must never find out about this. The college was large and prestigious. If the video leaked, it would spread fast. Thinking about the footage of Nick and I made me wonder if Antonio already knew.Nick had to stay safe.I promised I would protect him, and I had no intention of breaking that promise.Kyle found out about the situation before reaching out to me. Then Professor Douglas, Alina, called me when the video started spreading around the college.I found someone who hacked the college account and got the video taken down, though it took some time.I handled the college board the same way I did when I first came here to work as a professor.Somehow, my thoughts drifted back to Nick once more, and I let out a quiet sigh.If Father had already found out about him, I had to move fast. There was still so much to do, especially finding the
