Guests began to arrive around 8pm. Although this was going to be dinner, the vibe was fancy. Everyone was dressed in suits and nice dresses.

Patricia and Brian welcomed the guests at the front door and ushered them into the drawing room. Harold was running late. Brian claimed that he was rounding off a meeting and was bound to return within the hour.

I’d changed into my new dress and heels and my stomach was alight with butterflies, anticipating the exact moment in which Harold would walk in and see me in the dress he’d bought me.

Would he be taken aback? Would he feel the primal urge to want to take it off me.

Gods knew I’d let him if he tried.

“You look stunning,” Patricia came up next to me. She was beaming as she admired my dress. “That dress looks brand new, almost as if you’ve never worn it before.”

“Yeah. It’s new,” I cleared my throat and changed the subject. “You’re playing the part of host quite nicely. You’re indeed your father’s daughter.”
