The Falconeri mansion looked different once the crowd was gone. At the wedding it felt like a stage set. Glitter, champagne, lights. Now it was quiet. Too quiet.

Boxes sat by my bed. I didn’t own much. A suitcase. A box of books. A few framed photos. My half of the closet looked empty compared to the endless space carved out for me. Lavender clung to the sheets. The windows were taller than any I’d ever had. I should have felt lucky. I didn’t. I felt like a guest.

I pushed out into the hall. The place was a maze. Chandeliers. Marble floors. Paintings of Falconeri ancestors glaring down at me. Their eyes followed wherever I went.

“Aurora.”

My mother’s voice called from down the hall. She appeared, smiling, cheeks still flushed. Marcelo’s footsteps echoed behind her.

“Are you settling in?” she asked.

“As much as I can,” I said.

“You’ll love it here. Look at this place.” Her hand touched the banister like it was made of gold. “It’s a fresh start for both of us.”

“Maybe for you.”

Her smile wavered. “You’ll see.”

Marcelo appeared beside her. His hand rested on her shoulder, calm but heavy. “Everything you need is here. You’ll be comfortable.”

“Thanks,” I murmured.

He nodded once. Then they walked off together, laughter trailing behind them.

I kept moving, restless.

The mansion seemed endless. A grand piano polished so bright I could see my face in it. A library stacked with leather books. Too perfect. Like no one really lived here.

Then I heard it. A thud. Another. A sharp exhale.

I followed the sound down a side hall. A pair of double doors were cracked open. The smell of sweat and leather slipped through.

Inside was Ricardo.

He was on the bench, pressing weights above his chest. Muscles straining, jaw tight. Tattoos shifting over his skin. Sweat slicked his shoulders. Every movement was sharp, controlled.

I froze at the door.

The clang of the weights rang out as he dropped them onto the rack. He grabbed a towel, dragging it over his chest. His head turned.

Our eyes locked.

“You lost?” His voice was low, steady.

“I was just… looking around.”

His gaze moved over me slow, sharp. I felt stripped bare. “This wing is private.”

“I didn’t know,” I said quickly. “Sorry.”

“Now you know.”

He stood, broad shoulders filling the room. The towel hung loose in his hand. His eyes never left me.

“I wasn’t sneaking,” I said.

“You’re here.” His tone teased, but his stare didn’t soften.

“It’s a big house.”

“Curiosity is dangerous here.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“Warning you.” His lips curved faintly. Like he liked the way my voice shook.

I gripped the doorframe. “You don’t scare me.”

He stepped closer. Just enough that the heat of his body rolled across the space. “You should be scared.”

“Why?”

“Because you don’t belong here. And people who don’t belong either learn fast… or get chewed up.”

I swallowed. “And which one are you?”

His eyes locked on mine, dark and steady. “I learned.”

Silence stretched. My chest rose and fell too fast. His scent, sweat and faint cologne, wrapped around me.

“I should go,” I muttered.

“You should.”

But he didn’t move.

I turned to leave.

“Aurora.”

The way he said my name made me stop. Slow. Deliberate. Like it tasted different on his tongue.

I looked back. He was still watching. Unblinking.

I left before I could make another mistake.

Back in my room, I slammed the door shut. My back pressed against it. My chest heaved.

I hated the way I felt. Not scared. Something worse. Wanting.

The next morning I came down for breakfast. The dining room was huge. The table could seat twenty. Only three chairs were filled. My mother, glowing as usual. Marcelo, calm with a newspaper in hand. A maid served coffee.

“Morning, sweetheart,” my mother said. “Did you sleep well?”

“Fine.”

Marcelo glanced at me briefly. “The staff can get you anything you need. Don’t hesitate.”

“Thanks.”

Halfway through my toast, the room shifted.

Ricardo walked in. Black shirt, dark jeans. Hair damp like he’d just showered. He pulled out a chair without asking and sat.

“Morning,” he said flatly.

“Morning,” my mother said quickly, her smile tight.

Marcelo gave him a nod. No words.

Ricardo’s eyes flicked to me. Just for a second. Enough to twist my stomach.

My mother jumped in with chatter. “Aurora will start her classes soon. Marcelo, we should get her enrolled properly.”

Marcelo folded his paper. “It will be handled.”

Ricardo sipped his coffee. His eyes lingered on me again, sharp, unreadable.

I dropped my fork. “Excuse me,” I muttered, standing.

My mother frowned. “Aurora—”

“I’m not hungry.”

I left before she could say more.

In the hall, footsteps followed.

“You always run off,” Ricardo’s voice said behind me.

I spun. “Do you always stalk people?”

His mouth curved faintly. “Only the interesting ones.”

I crossed my arms. “What do you want?”

“To know why you look at me like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like you’re curious. But you don’t want to be.”

Heat rushed up my neck. “You’re imagining things.”

“Am I?” He stepped closer. His voice dropped lower. “You saw me last night. And you didn’t run.”

“I told you, I was exploring.”

“You stayed. You watched.”

I clenched my jaw. “You’re arrogant.”

“Or maybe I’m right.”

I hated how steady his eyes were. Dark, unblinking. My pulse skipped.

“Stay away from me,” I said.

He tilted his head. “If that’s what you want.”

But the way he said it, I knew he wouldn’t.

The next morning feels heavier than usual. The house is quiet, but not peaceful — the kind of silence that hides tension beneath it.I sit at the breakfast table, staring at the untouched cup of coffee in front of me.Maria moves around the kitchen like always, humming under her breath, but even that feels forced. She keeps glancing toward the hallway like she’s expecting someone to walk in.He doesn’t.Ricardo hasn’t shown up. Not a word. Not even a message.I scroll through my phone again, pretending I’m checking the time. Nothing.Elena texts me some random meme about school drama, Chiara asks if I’m coming to class, but the one name I want to see isn’t there.I can still feel him , his touch, his breath, the way his voice went soft when he said my name. It’s like it’s imprinted under my skin. And now… nothing. Like he vanished.Maria clears her throat softly. “Miss Aurora? Should I bring your plate?”I blink. “No, I’m fine. I’m not really hungry.”She hesitates before nodding. “Mr

The morning light hits different after a night like that.Soft. Golden. Quiet.Almost like the universe is pretending nothing happened.I blink awake to the sound of my alarm, my body still humming with the memory of him. My sheets smell faintly like cologne and something wilder…Ricardo. For a moment, I lie still, staring at the ceiling.Did I dream it?His hands. His voice. The way he whispered my name like it was a sin he wanted to keep repeating.No. I didn’t dream it.He was here.My heart stutters just thinking about it.He came through the window like some kind of trouble I couldn’t resist. Said nothing for a while—just looked at me with those dark eyes, as if I belonged to him. And I didn’t stop him.I should’ve. I didn’t.Now, the memory burns under my skin, impossible to scrub off.The door creaks open suddenly, snapping me back to reality.Maria, the housemaid, pokes her head in. “Miss Aurora? The text leaves my phone before I can stop myself.Look out your window.I don’t know what I expect. Maybe nothing. Maybe everything. But when her light flickers on a few seconds later and I see her shadow move behind the curtain, it’s like every thought I’ve tried to bury claws its way back up.She pulls the curtain aside, and our eyes lock through the glass. Her face is soft, sleepy, confused and still, she looks like the only thing that’s real.“Aurora,” I whisper, barely audible. She shakes her head slowly, mouthing, What are you doing here?I motion for her to open the window. For a heartbeat, she hesitates. Then, with trembling hands, she unlatches it. The sound of the frame sliding open feels louder than it should.“What are you—Ricardo, you can’t be here,” she whispers.I push myself up and climb through before she can stop me. My shoes hit the floor with a dull thud, and for a second, all I can hear is her breathing. She’s in an oversized shirt, her hair loose around her face

The sunlight cuts through my curtains before I’m ready for it. I pull the blanket higher, pretending the world doesn’t exist. My body feels heavy, like I’ve run miles in a dream I can’t escape. The memories flicker back no matter how hard I try to push them away Ricardo’s breath, his voice, his touch on my body, the way my pulse lost rhythm.I should hate him. Or at least hate myself for letting it happen.Instead, I just feel… hollow.I drag myself out of bed and into the shower, hoping the water will wash it all away. It doesn’t. The heat only brings it back the closeness, the sound of my name on his lips.I grip the edge of the sink and stare at my reflection. My eyes look different, darker. It’s like something shifted inside me last night and I can’t turn it off.“He’s your stepbrother,” I whisper. “Stop this.”My voice shakes.By the time I get to campus, I’m forcing a smile I don’t feel. Chiara waves from across the courtyard, her voice too bright for the ache in my chest.“F

  • SINFUL LOVE   CHAPTER 11: RICARDO’S POV

Three days. That’s how long Aurora had been avoiding me.Three days of cold breakfasts, quiet hallways, and a tension I could feel through the walls of the mansion. She’d stop talking when I entered a room, leave a second before I did, and never look at me long enough for it to mean anything.Tonight, that silence was ending.I stood by the doorway of her room, pretending I wasn’t waiting. We were supposed to go to Matteo’s house—some team party that his father’s staff had set up in their villa outside Palermo. Everyone would be there: Valentina, Dario, the whole loud crowd that called itself a family. And her.The door opened. For a second, I forgot how to breathe.Aurora stepped out in a short black dress that didn’t belong to any world I could protect her from. Her hair was down, soft around her shoulders, eyes lined in a way that made her look older, untouchable.“You’re staring,” she said flatly.“Can you blame me?”“You should stop.”“I’ve tried.”Her mouth tightened, but she br

Morning came heavy, thick with guilt I couldn’t shake.I stared at my reflection, trying to fix the mess inside me with a brush and concealer. It didn’t work. Nothing could hide the fact that I’d let him kiss me again.Ricardo Falconeri. My mother’s new husband’s son.My stepbrother.Even thinking the word made my stomach twist. I told myself to stop, to forget, but the memory wouldn’t go away, the way he’d pulled me close, the sound of his voice when he called me butterfly.I hated how much I wanted to hear it again. My phone buzzed.Chiara: “Get dressed. We’re going shopping. No excuses.”Elena: “Come with us. You’ve been too quiet lately.”Maybe distraction was exactly what I needed.I grabbed my bag, told my mom I was heading out, and left before Ricardo could show up and make things worse.Chiara was waiting outside the gates, oversized sunglasses and a designer tote that screamed confidence. Elena stood beside her, scrolling through her phone, calm as ever.“There she is!” Chiar
