F O R T Y - F I V E

LUCINDA.

"It's a dead end. " I mumble under my breath as the woman watch me with a strange expression on her face.

"How may I help you, young lady?" She speaks startling me out of my thoughts, and I bow politely with a small smile on my face.

Stepping back, I say, "I'm so sorry to disturb you, but is there a resident here that goes by the name Darren Hollands?" I know it's a dead end. Judging by this young woman's face; there's no way she could be Darren's mother, and there's no resemblance of her being his family.

"I'm sorry, but I think you got the wrong address. " She says, and I nod. She glances over her shoulder at the voice that calls out, and she responds in what sounds to be French before turning her gaze back to me.

"Is that all, young miss? I have to get back to my family. " She jerks her head to the side, and I nod, bowing again.
