Mag-log inAllison's POV:
I exited the house, lost in thoughts about Jacob Hayes, and hailed a cab. Kenton town was unfamiliar territory for me since I had moved to Dallas. It was quite a distance from my previous residence and workplace, but I was determined to go wherever necessary to uncover information about the enigmatic young billionaire. It struck me as odd that despite being in the headlines for days, he refused to give interviews. This behavior strongly suggested that he was involved in some illicit dealings and didn't want to be questioned about his wealth. But if he was engaged in shady business, why draw attention to himself? Why make headlines? He could have conducted his affairs covertly. These questions troubled me, and I couldn't wait to find answers.
Upon reaching Kenton town, the driver turned and asked, "Where are you headed?"
"Um, I... I don't know," I murmured, scanning my surroundings in confusion. "Uh, you can stop here," I said restlessly, and he immediately halted the car. After paying the driver, I hastily stepped out, glancing around in search of an under-construction building. However, I couldn't spot any. Suddenly, my phone rang, and I saw it was Josiah calling.
"I can't answer right now," I said, sliding the phone back into my pocket. I didn't want Josiah to know that I was investigating Jacob Hayes like that, as I knew he wouldn't approve.
"Um, excuse me?" I halted a passerby on the street and began, "Um, do you know of any place in this town where there is an under-construction building?"
"Well, there might be several under-construction buildings... Which one are you looking for?" the person inquired.
"Um, I'm not exactly sure," I replied, struggling to recall the details from the news channel. "Oh, wait," I said, retrieving my phone to access the website of that news channel. I searched through the recorded headlines and found the one about Jacob Hayes.
"Look, here... This area," I said, showing the news to the person, who examined it closely. "Are you familiar with this area?" I asked anxiously.
"Um, yeah... It's two blocks away. You need to go straight from here and take a left after two blocks. The area is quite deserted. There are no houses or buildings... Only one building under construction there," the person informed me.
"Oh, I see," I said, nodding.
"Be careful when you go there, considering how quiet that area is," the person warned, and I nodded slowly, swallowing nervously.
"Thanks," I said, smiling nervously as the person walked away. "There's definitely something suspicious... Why would he enter a building under construction in such a secluded area?" I questioned myself, taking a deep breath before embarking on my journey towards the building.
I briskly walked for two blocks, wondering if he would still be there, and hoped to find some information about him. As I crossed the two blocks and turned left, I finally arrived at a barren area with no signs of human life except for the under-construction building. I gulped as I stood there, contemplating whether to proceed with my plan. However, my eagerness to uncover the truth got the better of me. I wanted to prove my abilities to Josiah and advance my career.
Taking a deep breath, I slowly approached the building while unlocking my phone and opening the camera app. After locking it again, I stowed it in my pocket. I continued walking until I reached closer to the building when suddenly I spotted two burly men exiting. They appeared muscular and intimidating. I immediately darted toward the backside of the building to remain inconspicuous.
"Oh God, please help," I whispered, my heart racing. I didn't want them to catch me, as I knew the consequences could be dire for spying on them. They were clearly dangerous individuals.
As I waited for the bulky men to move away, I heard a noise behind me. Turning around in confusion, I listened intently and realized that some people were talking. Breathing heavily, I moved further towards the backside of the building, following the direction of the voices. Steadily, I reached a large pile of sand with a lot of bricks piled up in front, close to the building, and the voices became clearer. I looked up and discovered that the voices were coming from the first floor of the building. I wondered how I could reach there. After contemplating for a moment, I placed my hand on the bricks, and an idea struck me. With a smile, I began climbing the bricks carefully to ascend towards the first floor of the building. As soon as I reached the top, I could see some people conversing while surrounded by cartons. I discreetly observed them, trying to make sense of their activities. Suddenly, the young billionaire, Jacob Hayes, walked into the midst of those people, and I found myself staring at him, awestruck. He was even more stunning in person.
"We need to take action now," Jacob Hayes said in his deep, masculine, and captivating voice. "We can't let those people discover anything," he added. Determined to record this evidence, I aimed to take out my phone from my pocket, but to my frustration, my office ID card came out along with it. I sighed, attempting to secure it properly. Just as I was about to start recording, my phone unexpectedly rang, causing me to skip a beat.
"Oh no," I muttered, trying to silence it.
"What the hell...?" I heard Jacob Hayes' voice, and fear coursed through me as I looked up at him, his gaze fixed on me. "Catch that girl," he commanded his men. Trembling, I instinctively stepped back, unaware that I was standing on the bricks, which caused me to lose balance and fall. I screamed and landed in the heap of sand.
"Stop her!" some of his men shouted, but I shook my head and quickly got up, running away from the scene. As I sprinted, my legs trembling, I heard a gunshot behind me and screamed...
Jacob’s POV:I watched with my eyes wide open as Kai leaned down to plant a kiss on Allison’s hand. It never bothered me that much whenever Neil tried to get close to Allison, but this time it was different. It was Kai, who knew how to charm women. For the first time in my life, I felt threatened by a man because he was trying to get close to her. His lips touching Allison’s bare hand sent shivers down my spine, and I could feel my heart racing, my jaw clenching, and my fingers curling into a fist.I couldn’t hold it in anymore. With my left hand still clenched in a fist, I walked forward towards them, grabbed Kai’s elbow, and pulled it, causing Allison’s hand to slip from his.“Can we go down and have dinner now?” I asked Kai.“Uh, yeah, of course,” Kai replied, glancing back at Allison who was looking at me.“And…” Neil stepped forward, walking towards Allison and Kai while I took a breath, releasing my fist and looking away, gulping. “She’s my girl. So be careful with your moves,”
*Few hours ago*Jacob’s POV:It was almost 6 in the evening when I was in my bathroom, under the shower, letting the cool drops of water touch my bare skin, calming each nerve and soothing me. I couldn’t stop thinking about Allison and her engagement to Neil. I couldn’t believe that this time everything was not in my power. Something was supposed to get ruined. Either it could be my feelings for Allison, or it could be my relationship with Neil or the promise I made to my mother. Something bad was going to happen to me and there was nothing I could do about it for the first time in my life.Sliding all my hair back, I turned off the shower and wrapped the towel around my waist, before coming out of the bathroom.“Jacob Hayes!” A loud voice reached my ears and I rolled my eyeballs up, recognizing the voice.“Where are you?” The voice reached me again and I sighed.“Enzo, what did you do!” I murmured and grabbed my pants to put them on when there came a knock on my door.“Yes?” I asked
Jacob’s POV:He looked at me for a few seconds before taking a breath and looking away. “What?” he chuckled and shook his head. “What are you saying?” He asked in disbelief.“Answer me, Neil!” I said.“Of course not, Jacob. How can I be involved in this?” He argued and stepped back before adding further, “You are getting me married to Allison. You’re doing what I want. Why would I ruin all this? And how can you suspect me, brother? It can be Enzo, also. Why are you not suspecting him?”“Woah, woah!” Enzo started loudly and walked forward with his eyes wide open. “Excuse me?” Enzo asked Neil in disbelief. “Why would you drag me in this? Keep this drama up to you and your brother here. Don’t take me into this,” he added resentfully and looked away.“You don’t suspect him then why me?” Neil questioned me in frustration.“Because you were constantly receiving calls from someone, not him!” I added loudly.“That was just my friend, Leon,” he argued back and slid down his hand in his pocket
Allison’s POV:My hands kept shaking as I pointed the gun at the man who was trying to strangle Jacob. I couldn’t believe I was doing this. The first time I had pointed a gun at Jacob, it was just to have a way out of his house. However, this time, it was different. I knew I’d have to pull the trigger because that man was not going to stop. I could see Jacob struggling, trying to pull the chain away from his neck while grunting. I noticed his feet sliding on the ground as he was losing his balance.Anger rose inside me as I watched the man harming Jacob in that way. I breathed heavily, tightening my grip on the gun, although my hands continued to shake because I had no idea how to shoot. I didn’t even know how to aim precisely at his hand to make him move away from Jacob. Nonetheless, I fixed my eyes on his arm and breathed heavily again to gather myself to pull the trigger. But I realized how difficult it was to shoot someone. Despite my anger at the man, I couldn’t manage to pull th
Allison’s POV:It felt like I was part of a movie scene. A mafia action movie. Where there are guns, armed men and their mafia boss. Typically, in such movies, sometimes there’s also a girl who is either the part of the gang or the boss’s girlfriend and is tough and fearless. However, in my version of the story, that girl was me. The twist? I wasn't the confident, fierce fighter portrayed in the movies; instead, I was terrified, timid, and prone to running away. When I heard the sound of the gunshot behind me, for a moment I felt like it was the climax of the movie where everybody ends up being dead. A movie with a sad ending. But much to my surprise, the scene didn't fade to black. It continued. Enzo tried to control the car but couldn’t, causing the car to veer dangerously to the side, jolting me around violently. Just as I was about to collide with the front seat, a hand reached out, grabbing me and pulling me back. Suddenly, I found myself in someone's arms and it was none other t
Allison’s POV:I found myself eagerly waiting for him to slide that ring onto my finger. Yet, deep within my heart, I knew the hopes I harbored were not right because it was my kidnapper for whom I was feeling something. It shouldn’t have been happening, but to my surprise, it was. I was eager and desperate. I had never been like that before. I could now understand what Isaac must have gone through. To feel something for someone and then strongly wish for them to reciprocate those feelings is the worst thing ever.I kept looking at him intently as he held my hand gently and then took a deep breath before turning around. What? What are you doing? I asked him in my mind.“Neil,” he said and then glanced back at me while I looked at him in disbelief. What the hell? Why is he calling his brother? I asked myself.“Come here!” He said to Neil who walked forward immediately while Jacob’s eyes were fixed on me.“Yes?” Neil asked him upon reaching.“Check the size!” Jacob ordered, handing the
