Serafine’s POV

“Aishh!” I hissed as my palm came down hard against my arm. I lifted my hand slowly and saw blood.

A smear of red across my skin and the crushed body of a mosquito stuck in the center of it.

I swallowed, disgust twisting in my stomach. Even the mosquitoes feasted on me without mercy.

I wiped my palm against my dress as the sound of water dropping on water clouded my hearing.

The sound had become a rhythm in this cell.

My gaze shifted to the hollowed dip in the floor where water

Serafine’s POV Hope rode beside me in the back seat.Bane and Lupin sat in front.Through the tinted window, I could see Grayson’s vehicle following close behind ours.Hope kept glancing at me as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. I just stared at my hands resting on the green fabric pooled over my knees. My mind replaying her earlier words. “...Different worlds…different levels. You two can never be together.”Did Bran also think the same way? Was that the reason he chose Saskia even though he wanted me? A deep sigh escaped me. The SUV came to a stop. I looked up and saw my little apartment stood ahead. But something was wrong. Guards who were not the usual pack guards stood in front of the apartment.Their uniforms were dark blue and had an unfamiliar tag, whereas that of the pack guards were just black. Standing in the middle of them was Saskia. She wore white. Not bridal white. But something just as deliberate.“Mm? What's going on?” Hope murmured. “W

Serafine’s POV Three days ago, I was standing in the middle of a corridor at the hospital, looking at the glaring faces of the pack members clustered around me. “That’s her. The rumored Alpha’s mate.”“So it's true.”“I think it is.”Their voice sounded from every corner as they didn’t even bother to lower their voices. The word MATE had echoed in my skull like a drumbeat. But at that moment, my mind was clouded with concern for Bran. And all I could think of was him. So it was difficult for me to understand what the people were saying.Mate? What did they mean?A strong hand grabbed my shoulder. I turned quickly, gasping, and met Grayson. His brows were drawn tight, his eyes scanning my face. “Serafine, what are you doing here?”His voice sounded distant. Warped. Like it was traveling through water.I stared at him, but I wasn’t seeing him. I was seeing the ward door behind him.Bran was inside.“Serafine?” Grayson’s voice sharpened. But it still felt like an echo.Grayson’s hand

Even the mosquitoes feasted on me without mercy.I wiped my palm against my dress as the sound of water dropping on water clouded my hearing. The sound had become a rhythm in this cell. My gaze shifted to the hollowed dip in the floor where water had gathered. The puddle had been there for days, growing darker and thicker. The smell rising from it was stale, clinging to the damp air.I tilted my head back and stared at the roof. And saw the cracked spot in the stone ceiling where water slipped through, bead by bead, falling into the small pool below. It wasn’t just the smell that made it unbearable. It was the mosquitoes it was breeding.I folded my legs and wrapped my arms around my knees, pressing my forehead against them. The dampnes

Alpha Bran’s POVI stepped out of the bathroom, toweling my hair before tossing the towel aside. My suit was already laid out on the bed. Black, tailored to perfection.I dressed quickly. Buttoning my shirt. Putting the cufflinks in order. And then pulled on the black coat. By the time I finished and looked up at my reflection in the mirror, the door opened behind me. And through the mirror, I saw Aric step in.He breathed in relief the moment our eyes met.“Finally,” he muttered under his breath.I smirked and turned around to face him. “How do I look?”He scanned me from head to toe. “Considering you hate suits, you look better in them than any other attire.”A low laugh escaped me. “I suppose some men are simply blessed with extraordinary good looks.”Aric sighed again.“You’re acting like someone who didn’t just wake up from a three-day coma.”I stilled.“Coma?” “That’s what doc called it,” he replied. My gaze sharpened. “What did he say was wrong with me?”“We’ll talk about tha

Alpha Bran’s POVVoices drifted through the darkness.Muffled at first. Then it got clearer.“Bran… please… Please open your eyes.” I heard Saskia say. Her voice was broken.I tried to move, but my body felt like stone.“The pack members are all in the temple. The guests are here. More are on their way.” she sobbed. “They keep asking for you.”A sharp ache pulsed behind my eyes.“The elders are asking questions. The Alphas from the north arrived an hour ago. I told them you were preparing. I said you were meditating. I said you were in a strategy meeting. I’ve run out of excuses, Bran!” Her grip tightened around my hand.“They’re starting to look suspicious.” There was a pause, then her voice dropped. “My family is also waiting to laugh at me.” A tear landed on my knuckles.“Please… Ryker… please help him wake up.” Her voice cracked harder. “It’s our wedding day. The guests are waiting. I can’t tell them the Alpha is unconscious. I can’t.”Wedding day?The words echoed strangely in my

Serafine’s POVIf it wasn’t Grayson, then who would buy flowers and a bracelet for me?“Grayson, are you sure you didn’t…” I asked.“Yes, Serafine,” he looked me in the eye. “Did anyone say I sent them?”“The doctor,” I replied slowly. “He came in smiling… said you brought them as a wellbeing gift to me.”Grayson scoffed under his breath. “Wellbeing gift?”There was silence for a moment before Hope broke it.“Then who would send them, if not you?” Hope asked, folding her arms.Grayson glanced at me, forcing a light tone. “Maybe you have a secret admirer.”“And why did that doctor lie to you?” Hope pressed, her brows knitting together.“Come on, don’t stress yourself over it,” Grayson said gently, helping me ease back against the pillows. His hands were warm on my shoulders. “Just focus on recovering fully. I’ll find out who sent the gifts.”“You will?” I asked. He nodded. “Yes.”I breathed in slowly, trying to quiet the unease curling in my stomach. His fingers brushed my bandaged wri
