(Adriana’s POV)

Mornings in Hunter’s house didn’t used to feel like this.

They used to feel like waiting rooms~silent, heavy, tense with whatever unspoken thing might come next. Now, though, the quiet was softer. It didn’t press against my chest like a weight. It settled gently, like a lullaby I didn’t know I needed.

I was curled up in bed, Hunter’s side already cold. Sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, spilling gold over the pale bedding and the soft bump of my stomach. I ran my hand over it absently, still getting used to the slight curve. The babies—our babies—were growing. I hadn’t felt a kick yet, but I could feel them. In the fatigue that hit faster, the way my body stretched without asking, and in the fierce way Hunter watched me, like if he blinked too long, I might disappear.

I reached for my new phone, the one he gave me a few weeks ago. My fingers still hesitated every time I unlocked it. Like freedom wasn’t something I’d earned yet. But it wasn’t about freedom an

  • SOLD TO THE GANG LEADER    Chapter 27: Letters to the Future

(Adriana’s POV)It had been exactly eight and a half months since everything changed.Eight and a half months since my father signed the contract that handed me over. Since Hunter pulled me from one world and dropped my heart first into another. Eight and a half months since I became his. Since I found out I was carrying his children. Since I stopped fighting and started… living. Now, I was full-term. Nine months pregnant. The twins could come at any moment. Every little cramp, every shift, every odd ache sent a ripple through me—was this it? Were they ready?I wasn’t afraid.I used to think of that girl I once was, the one with shaking hands, wide eyes, and no answers. But she had grown. She had become someone who wrote love letters to the future. So that’s what I was doing this morning, curled up in the sitting area of our bedroom, the sun flooding through the windows, making the white curtains glow like silk. I had my journal open across my lap, a pale pink leather-bound one with s

(Adriana’s POV)Hunter finally answered. He didn’t get up. He didn’t leave the room. He just pressed the phone to his ear, jaw still tight, muscles tense under the white cotton of his shirt. But his eyes… they flicked to mine. Like he was making sure I saw.Like he wanted me to know: he wasn’t hiding anything.“Rayna,” he said quietly.I shifted upright, legs curled under me. My hands found my bump—almost instinctively now—rubbing soft circles across the curve as I watched him. There was a pause on the line. Then Hunter frowned slightly, the tension in his shoulders slowly, barely, unwinding.“What?” he asked, voice still gruff. “No. She’s fine. Why would you—”Another pause. And then, his expression changed. Subtle, but I saw it. Something had knocked the edge off his anger. His grip on the phone loosened just a bit.“Okay,” he murmured. “That’s… unexpected.”He went quiet again, just listening. I sat still, my heart knocking against my ribs. I didn’t want to interrupt, but I couldn’

(Hunter’s POV)It was supposed to be a simple thing handing her that phone.Just a gift. A way to say I trust you now. A way to say I see you.But when she looked at it like it was more than just a screen like it was a key to a part of herself she hadn’t touched in a while I realized how much it mattered. And how much she mattered.I drove to the warehouse that evening trying to shake off the tightness in my chest, but it didn’t leave. It hadn’t, not since the day I saw the grainy outlines of our kids on a monitor. Two tiny heartbeats, two futures I hadn’t expected. It scared the hell out of me.Not because I didn’t want them. But because I did.More than I’ve ever wanted anything.I parked in my usual spot behind the loading docks, the engine humming under my hand. For a minute, I just sat there headlights off, rain misting the windshield, knuckles tight on the steering wheel. She wore my mother’s necklace now.I hadn’t even told Ma. Hadn’t planned to. If she asked about it, I’d tell

  • SOLD TO THE GANG LEADER    Chapter 25: Phone in Her Hands

(Adriana’s POV)It started like an ordinary morning.Sunlight slanted through the windows, spilling gold across the hardwood floors of the bedroom. Outside, birds chirped faintly over the distant hum of city traffic, softened by layers of manicured hedges and wrought iron gates. Inside, the world felt still — safe. Almost too quiet for a house that belonged to the most feared man in Deal Dynasty. But safety had taken a different shape lately.Hunter had been… different. It had been weeks since he told me he loved me. Weeks since those three words cracked something wide open between us. He hadn’t stopped saying them since sometimes in whispers, sometimes in heated murmurs when he thought I was asleep, sometimes just with his eyes. That same man, the one who took me from my parents — was now the one who carried my prenatal vitamins in his back pocket and checked in every few hours like it was the most natural thing in the world.I didn’t know what today would hold. But I could feel it.

  • SOLD TO THE GANG LEADER    Chapter 24: Heartbeats and Confessions

(Adriana’s POV)It had been over a month since the clinic. Since the sound of two tiny heartbeats changed everything.I didn’t think things would shift so fast between us, but they did quietly, tenderly, like petals unfurling in spring after a brutal winter. And what surprised me most was that it didn’t feel like a sharp turn. It felt like a steady unraveling. Like Hunter had been holding back a part of himself for so long, and now… he was letting it in.Letting me in.Every day since the scan, he’d become more protective. Not just in the way he barked orders at his men or installed more security cameras. That wasn’t new. No, it was the softer things. The way he started waking up before me just to make sure I ate something. The way he studied the ingredients on labels before letting me touch anything. The way he snapped at one of the guards for opening a door too fast near me. The way he held my hand under the table during breakfast, thumb moving gently over my knuckles.Hunter Rivers
