Ghost of Rossi

Dimitrio’s Pov

The taste of her defiance still lingered on my tongue.

I sat alone in my chambers, staring at the wall, replaying every moment of our encounter. The way her eyes had blazed with hatred. The way she had fought back, scratched me, spat in my face.

No one had ever done that to me.

Not since—

I stopped the thought before it could fully form. I didn't want to think about the past. Didn't want to remember the other red-haired girl who had looked at me with something other than fear.

Rossi.

Her face flashed in my mind, unbidden. That gentle smile. Those kind eyes. The way she had risked everything to bring me food in that dungeon, knowing she would be killed if she was caught.

And then Giacomo had—

I slammed my fist against the desk.

I wasn't going to think about it. I wasn't going to let the memories drag me down. That was the past. This was the present. And Serena Marino was not Rossi. She was just a slave. A tool. Something to be used and discarded.

But her defiance...

I had seen the way she looked at me when she spat in my face. Not just fear. Not just hatred. There was something else there. Something that made me want to break her, but also made me want to keep her.

I couldn't decide which impulse was stronger.

I forced her to her knees in my chamber, making her kneel before me like the slave she was. Her body trembled, but her eyes still held that fire. Those beautiful, defiant caramel eyes.

"Kneel," I told her, my voice flat.

She refused at first. Of course she did. It took me pushing her down myself, my hand on her shoulder, forcing her to obey.

"You're no different from the rest," I told her, crouching down so I could see her face. "You're just another whore I bought."

"I'm nobody's whore," she spat.

I chuckled despite myself. "We'll see about that."

But I didn't touch her. Couldn't. Not because I didn't want to—God knows I did. Her body was perfect, her skin like porcelain, her curves begging to be explored.

But I wanted her to come to me willingly.

I wanted to watch her break.

I wanted her to beg me.

Because that would be the real victory. Not forcing myself on her like some common street thug. Not taking what I could have taken the moment she arrived. No—I wanted her to choose me. To want me. And then, when she was fully under my spell, I would destroy her.

Just like Giacomo destroyed Rossi.

The thought made my blood run cold.

No. That was different. Serena was different. She was just a tool, a pawn in a game that I didn't fully understand yet.

"Take her to the slave quarters," I ordered Malak, turning away from her. The sight of her on her knees, still defiant, still fighting—it was too much. It reminded me too much of—

"I'd rather die than be his whore."

Her voice drifted back to me through the halls as they dragged her away. I heard her scream, heard her fight, heard the pleading in her voice that she tried so hard to hide.

And then silence.

I sank into my chair, my head falling into my hands.

What was wrong with me? Why couldn't I stop thinking about her? She was just a slave. Just another faceless body in a long line of bodies I had bought and sold. I had seen hundreds of girls pass through this estate. Thousands, maybe.

But none of them had looked at me the way she did.

None of them had fought back.

None of them had made me feel like this.

I poured myself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid sloshing against the crystal. I drained it in one gulp, welcoming the burn that spread through my chest.

I needed to get a grip.

I needed to remember who I was.

I was Dimitrio De Luca, Don of the most powerful mafia family in Lazio. I had killed men with my bare hands. I had burned rival families to the ground. I had built an empire from the ashes of my father's death and Giacomo's betrayal.

I was not going to let some red-haired slave bring me to my knees.

And yet...

I thought about Rossi.

I thought about the way she had looked at me in that dungeon, her eyes filled with a kindness I didn't deserve. The way she had brought me food when no one else would. The way she had whispered my name like a prayer.

The way she had died because of me.

Because of Giacomo.

Because I hadn't been strong enough to save her.

I closed my eyes, trying to push the memories away. But they came anyway—Rossi's face, bloodied and broken. The light fading from her eyes. The way she had smiled at me in the end, telling me it wasn't my fault.

But it was my fault.

It had always been my fault.

And now, watching Serena fight, watching her refuse to break, it was like watching Rossi all over again. The same fire. The same refusal to give up.

The same doomed fate.

A knock on my door snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Enter," I called, my voice rough.

The door opened to reveal Giovanni Monera. My consigliere. My most trusted advisor.

And the father of the woman who wanted to be my wife.

"Don Dimitrio," Giovanni said, stepping inside. "I apologize for disturbing you at this hour."

"You're not disturbing me." I gestured for him to sit. "What is it?"

Giovanni settled into the chair across from me, his expression carefully neutral. "I've come to discuss the future of the family."

"The future?"

He nodded. "You're the Don now, Dimitrio. You've led us well. But to secure our legacy, to ensure that no one can ever threaten our position again—you need a strong alliance."

I already knew where this conversation was going.

"The Zakhars are defeated," I said flatly. "We have no enemies."

"We have always had enemies," Giovanni said. "And we always will. The only way to ensure our survival is to build a network of alliances. A family that will stand by us through thick and thin."

"I have alliances."

"Business alliances." He leaned forward. "I'm talking about something stronger. A marriage alliance."

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   Unwelcome Guest

Dimitrio's Pov Nadia was sitting on my bed. She was wearing a red dress. Her hair was carefully arranged. Her legs were crossed, she looked like she belonged there. She didn't. "What are you doing in my room?" My voice was low. Controlled. The kind of voice I used before something bad happened. Nadia stood up. She smiled. It was a confident smile. The smile of someone who thought they had already won. "My father said you agreed," she said. "About the marriage." "Your father lied." The smile faltered. "He said you took the ring. He said you were thinking about it." "I took the ring because he put it on my desk. I didn't say yes. I didn't agree to anything." "But you didn't say no." "That wasn't a yes." She stepped toward me. Her hand reached out to touch my chest. I grabbed her wrist before she could make contact. "You moved your things into my room," I said. "Without my permission. You told the servants we were engaged, without my permission. You sat on my bed. Without my

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   Watching and Waiting

Serena's Pov I saw her everywhere. Nadia walked through the estate like she already owned it. She wore a red dress that matched the one I used to wear. Her hair was perfectly styled, her makeup was flawless. She smiled at the guards, she nodded at the servants. She looked like a queen inspecting her kingdom. And I hated it. I watched from the garden as she strolled past the fountain. Malak was standing a few feet behind me. He didn't say anything. He didn't have to. He knew what I was thinking. "She's been like this all morning," Elena said. She had come to bring me lunch. A plate of bread and cheese that I hadn't touched. "Like what?" "Like she's already the don's wife. She told one of the kitchen girls that the wedding is being planned. She said it's only a matter of time before the announcement." I felt something twist in my stomach. I told myself it was anger. Not jealousy. It couldn't be jealousy. I had walked away from Dimitrio. I had told him I was done. I didn't care

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Don's Wife

Nadia's Pov I was in my room when my father came to find me. I had been pacing for hours. Waiting. Hoping. Serena was gone. She had walked out of Dimitrio's room and gone back to the slave quarters. The guards were talking about it. The servants were whispering. The red-haired slave had fallen from favor. It was my chance. My moment. And I wasn't going to waste it. The door opened. My father walked in. His face was calm, but there was something in his eyes. Something that looked almost like triumph. "It's done," he said. "What's done?" "I spoke to the don. About you." My heart started beating faster. "And?" "He didn't say no." I stared at him. "What does that mean?" "It means he's considering it. He's vulnerable right now. The slave girl hurt him. He's alone. And in that state, he's more open to suggestion." "So he agreed to marry me?" "He didn't agree. But he didn't refuse either. In our world, that's as good as a yes." I felt a smile spreading across my face. Finally.

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Proposal

Dimitrio's Pov I woke up with Rossi's name on my lips. The dream had been the same as always. The throne room. Giacomo's smile. Rossi on the floor with blood spreading across her dress. But this time, when I ran to her, it wasn't Rossi's face I saw. It was Serena's. I sat up in bed. My chest was heaving. My skin was cold with sweat. The room was dark. Empty. Serena was gone. She had walked away from me hours ago. She had slapped me. She had told me she was done. I deserved it. I got out of bed and walked to the window. The sun was barely up. The estate was quiet. Somewhere in the slave quarters, Serena was probably awake. Probably still angry. Probably still believing every lie Antonio had told her. I had tried to explain. I had told her the truth. But it hadn't been enough. She didn't trust me. And I couldn't blame her. I poured myself a glass of whiskey. It was too early for drinking. I didn't care. I drank it in one swallow and poured another. Three days had passed since t

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Truth Hurts

Serena's Pov I walked back into the estate just as the sun was rising. My legs were tired. My head was pounding. The things Antonio had told me kept repeating in my mind. "You're not Rossi. You'll never be Rossi and when Dimitrio realizes that, you'll mean nothing to him." I wanted to believe it wasn't true. I wanted to believe that Dimitrio cared about me. Not because I looked like someone he used to know. But because of who I was. But the doubt was there. It had been there since the beginning. And now Antonio had made it worse. I walked through the garden toward the main house. The guards saw me, they looked surprised. One of them spoke into his radio but I ignored them and kept walking. Dimitrio was in the hallway when I entered. He was dressed. His hair was messy. His eyes were wild. He had been looking for me. "Where were you?" His voice was rough. Angry. "I went to meet my father." "I know. I found the note." "Then you know where I was." He stepped closer. "You went

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   An Empty Bed

Dimitrio's Pov I woke up to an empty bed. My hand reached for her before my eyes opened. The sheets were cold. She had been gone for a while. I sat up and looked around the room. The bathroom door was open, the lights were off, but it wasn't there. "Serena?" No answer. I got out of bed and checked the closet. Empty. The balcony. Empty. I walked to the door and pulled it open. The guards at the end of the hallway straightened when they saw me. "The girl," I said. "Where is she?" The guards looked at each other. The taller one spoke first. "We haven't seen her, Don. Not since last night." "She didn't leave the room?" "No, Don. At least not through this door." I turned back into the room. My chest was tight. Something was wrong. Serena didn't leave in the middle of the night. Not without telling me. Not unless something had happened. I checked the room again. Her clothes were still in the closet. Her shoes were by the bed. But her dark dress was missing. The one she wore when
