Serena's Pov

The air burned in my lungs like acid.

His hand was still around my throat, the pressure relentless. I clawed at his wrist, my nails raking against his skin, but he didn't even flinch. He just stared down at me through those cold metallic eyes, watching me struggle like I was some insect pinned to a board.

"Please." I choked out, the word barely a whisper.

He released me.

I collapsed to the floor, gasping, coughing, sucking in air like I had been drowning. My hand went to my throat, feeling the raw tenderness where his fingers had been. Tears streamed down my face, but I refused to sob. I refused to give him that satisfaction.

Dimitrio De Luca stood over me like a dark angel of death. His face was unreadable, but his eyes—those terrible, beautiful eyes—were fixed on me with an intensity that made my blood run cold.

"Stand up," he said.

I didn't move. I couldn't. My legs had turned to jelly.

"I said stand up." His voice was ice. "Take off your clothes."

My head snapped up. "What?"

"You heard me." He stepped closer, his expensive shoes appearing in my blurry vision. "Take off the dress. Now."

"No."

The word came out before I could stop it. I watched his expression shift—a flicker of surprise, quickly masked by something darker. Dangerous.

"You want to say that again?" He crouched down in front of me, bringing his face level with mine. His cologne filled my nostrils, something expensive and masculine that made my stomach twist.

"I said no." My voice shook, but I forced the words out. "I won't do it. I won't be your plaything."

"Plaything?" He laughed, but there was no humor in it. "You think I want to touch you? You think I want to soil my hands on a slave?"

"Then why—"

"Because you belong to me now." His eyes bore into mine. "Everything you are, everything you have, everything you will ever be—it's mine. I bought you. I own you. And I can do whatever I want with you."

I felt the tears spilling over, hot and shameful against my cheeks. "Please," I whispered. "Please just let me go."

"Let you go?" He tilted his head, studying me like I was a puzzle he was trying to solve. "You really don't understand, do you? There's no going back for you, Capelli Rossi. This is your life now."

"Don't call me that."

He raised an eyebrow. "Why? It's what you are. A little red-haired thing that everyone seems to want."

"I hate it."

"Good." He grabbed the collar of my dress and yanked.

The fabric tore with a sickening rip, exposing my shoulder, my collarbone, the curve of my breast. I screamed and tried to scramble away, but he caught my ankle and dragged me back.

"Let go of me!" I kicked, my heel connecting with his chest.

He grunted but didn't release me. Instead, he pinned me against the wall, one hand gripping my wrists above my head while the other pressed against my hip, holding me in place.

I was trapped. Helpless. Completely at his mercy.

And I hated him for it.

"Fight me," he murmured, his lips brushing against my ear. "Fight me all you want. It only makes this more entertaining."

"I'll kill you," I hissed through my teeth. "I swear to God, I'll kill you."

He pulled back, his eyes widening slightly. And then—impossibly—he smiled. A cold, calculated smile that sent shivers down my spine.

"You have fire," he said, his thumb tracing the curve of my jaw. "I'll give you that. Most of them break within the first hour. But you… you're different, aren't you?"

"Let. Me. Go."

"Why would I do that?" He tilted my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze. "You're the most interesting thing that's happened to me in years. I want to see what you'll do next."

I spat in his face.

The glob of saliva landed on his cheek, sliding down his perfect skin. For a moment, he didn't move. Didn't blink. Just stood there, frozen, with my spit dripping off his face.

Then his hand tightened around my wrists, and I felt the bones grind together. I bit my lip to keep from screaming.

"You have no idea what you've just started, Capelli Rossi."

The words were soft. Gentle almost. But they carried a weight that made my blood turn to ice.

He released me abruptly and stepped back. I slid down the wall, my legs too weak to hold me up.

"Take her to the slave quarters," he called out, his voice returning to its cold, commanding tone. "And tell Mariette to prepare her. I want her trained by morning."

Two men appeared in the doorway—Malak and another soldier I didn't recognize. They grabbed my arms and hauled me to my feet.

"Wait—" I tried to protest, but my voice cracked.

Dimitrio was already turning away, dismissing me like I was nothing. Like the last few minutes hadn't happened.

"Sir!" I called out. "Please—"

He stopped at the door, his back still to me. "What?"

"I didn't do anything wrong," I said, the words tumbling out in a rush. "I was sold. I was betrayed. I didn't ask for this. Please, just—"

"Take her away," he said flatly.

And then he was gone.

********

The slave quarters were exactly what I expected.

A long corridor lined with tiny rooms, each one barely big enough for a cot and a small chest. The walls were damp, the air thick with the smell of mildew and something else—something I didn't want to identify.

Mariette met me at the entrance. She was a plump woman in her forties with kind eyes and a no-nonsense attitude.

"Let me see," she said, taking in my torn dress, my disheveled hair, the red marks on my wrists. "Tsk. He went after you already?"

"I refused him," I said, my voice hollow.

Mariette's eyes widened. "You refused the don?"

"He wanted me to undress. I said no."

"Oh, child." She shook her head, a mixture of pity and fear in her eyes. "You don't say no to him. You learn that now, or you won't last the week."

"Then I won't last the week." I lifted my chin, trying to hold onto the last shreds of my pride. "I'd rather die than be his whore."

Mariette sighed. "We'll see if you still feel that way tomorrow. I'll be back.”

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   Watching and Waiting

Serena's Pov I saw her everywhere. Nadia walked through the estate like she already owned it. She wore a red dress that matched the one I used to wear. Her hair was perfectly styled, her makeup was flawless. She smiled at the guards, she nodded at the servants. She looked like a queen inspecting her kingdom. And I hated it. I watched from the garden as she strolled past the fountain. Malak was standing a few feet behind me. He didn't say anything. He didn't have to. He knew what I was thinking. "She's been like this all morning," Elena said. She had come to bring me lunch. A plate of bread and cheese that I hadn't touched. "Like what?" "Like she's already the don's wife. She told one of the kitchen girls that the wedding is being planned. She said it's only a matter of time before the announcement." I felt something twist in my stomach. I told myself it was anger. Not jealousy. It couldn't be jealousy. I had walked away from Dimitrio. I had told him I was done. I didn't care

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Don's Wife

Nadia's Pov I was in my room when my father came to find me. I had been pacing for hours. Waiting. Hoping. Serena was gone. She had walked out of Dimitrio's room and gone back to the slave quarters. The guards were talking about it. The servants were whispering. The red-haired slave had fallen from favor. It was my chance. My moment. And I wasn't going to waste it. The door opened. My father walked in. His face was calm, but there was something in his eyes. Something that looked almost like triumph. "It's done," he said. "What's done?" "I spoke to the don. About you." My heart started beating faster. "And?" "He didn't say no." I stared at him. "What does that mean?" "It means he's considering it. He's vulnerable right now. The slave girl hurt him. He's alone. And in that state, he's more open to suggestion." "So he agreed to marry me?" "He didn't agree. But he didn't refuse either. In our world, that's as good as a yes." I felt a smile spreading across my face. Finally.

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Proposal

Dimitrio's Pov I woke up with Rossi's name on my lips. The dream had been the same as always. The throne room. Giacomo's smile. Rossi on the floor with blood spreading across her dress. But this time, when I ran to her, it wasn't Rossi's face I saw. It was Serena's. I sat up in bed. My chest was heaving. My skin was cold with sweat. The room was dark. Empty. Serena was gone. She had walked away from me hours ago. She had slapped me. She had told me she was done. I deserved it. I got out of bed and walked to the window. The sun was barely up. The estate was quiet. Somewhere in the slave quarters, Serena was probably awake. Probably still angry. Probably still believing every lie Antonio had told her. I had tried to explain. I had told her the truth. But it hadn't been enough. She didn't trust me. And I couldn't blame her. I poured myself a glass of whiskey. It was too early for drinking. I didn't care. I drank it in one swallow and poured another. Three days had passed since t

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   The Truth Hurts

Serena's Pov I walked back into the estate just as the sun was rising. My legs were tired. My head was pounding. The things Antonio had told me kept repeating in my mind. "You're not Rossi. You'll never be Rossi and when Dimitrio realizes that, you'll mean nothing to him." I wanted to believe it wasn't true. I wanted to believe that Dimitrio cared about me. Not because I looked like someone he used to know. But because of who I was. But the doubt was there. It had been there since the beginning. And now Antonio had made it worse. I walked through the garden toward the main house. The guards saw me, they looked surprised. One of them spoke into his radio but I ignored them and kept walking. Dimitrio was in the hallway when I entered. He was dressed. His hair was messy. His eyes were wild. He had been looking for me. "Where were you?" His voice was rough. Angry. "I went to meet my father." "I know. I found the note." "Then you know where I was." He stepped closer. "You went

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   An Empty Bed

Dimitrio's Pov I woke up to an empty bed. My hand reached for her before my eyes opened. The sheets were cold. She had been gone for a while. I sat up and looked around the room. The bathroom door was open, the lights were off, but it wasn't there. "Serena?" No answer. I got out of bed and checked the closet. Empty. The balcony. Empty. I walked to the door and pulled it open. The guards at the end of the hallway straightened when they saw me. "The girl," I said. "Where is she?" The guards looked at each other. The taller one spoke first. "We haven't seen her, Don. Not since last night." "She didn't leave the room?" "No, Don. At least not through this door." I turned back into the room. My chest was tight. Something was wrong. Serena didn't leave in the middle of the night. Not without telling me. Not unless something had happened. I checked the room again. Her clothes were still in the closet. Her shoes were by the bed. But her dark dress was missing. The one she wore when

  • SOLD TO THE RUTHLESS MAFIA LORD   Villa dei Sette

Serena's Pov I couldn't sleep. The note was in my pocket. I kept taking it out and reading it. "Your father wants to meet you. Come to the Villa dei Sette at midnight." The symbol at the bottom. The circle with three lines. I knew it from somewhere. From my childhood. From a necklace I used to wear. My mother had given it to me. She said it belonged to my father. I needed to know why my father left. Why my mother had struggled alone. Why I had grown up in a house without love. I needed to hear it from him. Not from Dimitrio. Not from anyone else. I turned over and looked at Dimitrio. He was asleep. His face was peaceful. No nightmares tonight. I didn't want to wake him. I didn't want to lie to him either. But I didn't know what else to do. I thought about what Elena had said. "Being close to the don puts a target on your back." Maybe that was true. Maybe the only way to protect myself was to get answers on my own. I made my decision. Slowly, carefully, I slipped out of bed. D
