Chaise

“How is she?” I asked doctor Crane. “Were you able to save her?”

“She’s stable now. Good thing you brought her at the time you did. We were able to stop the bleeding in time. Any minute later, she could have died.”

My heavy chest finally relaxed and I felt like I could breathe. I wasn't allowed to treat her since we had deep emotional attachments. I have been on edge since last night and even took a day off because I couldn’t attend to anyone like this.

I regretted not texting her back o

  • SORRY MR. CROWNELL YOU'RE TOO LATE    Chapter 31

Chapter Thirty-OneChaiseHas she always been this bold?Seeing her defend herself so confidently felt like a breath of fresh air. I didn't feel the need to step in because it seemed like everything was under her control.Honestly, I couldn't care less who the real researcher was. I just wanted to see this version of Lily a little longer. She was breathtaking, Rachelle, on the other hand, was a totally different story. I have never seen this side of her. I wanted to believe she was acting out of character because she was hurt over her stolen work. Calming her down was my only option. I didn't want her to make things more difficult for Lily. Besides, she did save my grandmother’s life with the said research but I also didn't believe the board would make such the mistake of giving credit for someone else's work to another. Over the years, they had been very strict and thorough in their selection. But it also meant if Lily was indeed L’s Mindset, the improvement in my grandmother's he

LilyAs soon as he got off the stage, Rachelle hurried back to him. “You can't let them do that!” She blurted, stopping him from returning to his seat. He stared at her with a confused expression. “You said you were going to defend me. That you won't let anyone take credit for my work but that's what you said up there.”He looked even more confused. I tried to keep from cackling. This was seriously going to be the most fun I've had in ages. “What do you mean?” He asked. “Everything I said up there will prove the truth, will it not?” His eyes narrowed at her, suspicion crossing his features. Rachelle quickly regained her composure. “I understand what you mean but I already showed you proof. You saw my signature, didn't you? Saying things like that on stage, anyone would think you don't believe me.”Her eyes darted towards me. “And I really didn't want to cause a scene. Doing all of that will only blow things out of proportion and ruin Lily's reputation and career for life. If she wi

Chapter Twenty-NineLilyHer face went beet red upon hearing those words. She turned towards Chaise who was staring expectantly at her. Seeing she couldn't just deny it or she would look bad in front of him, the silly woman decided to keep up with the lies. “And who says I'm not?” She shot back. My lips twitched in amusement as murmurs echoed all around us. The host looked even more confused now.“Everyone, I assure you that I am not just making baseless accusations. I believe none of us would sit back and watch an impostor claim our hard-work,” her voice dropped into an emotional tone. “I laboured hard, researched day and night, I had to take multiple trips to the countryside, just to broaden my knowledge on how to help people…”Her voice cracked with heavy emotion so she paused for a second to take deep breaths. “You can imagine my shock to see a work I poured my heart into being tagged to someone else. I came here tonight as a guest, completely unaware that I was about to watch

LilyWhy was I here? The question hit me hard. I knew he wasn't just asking that to degrade me or make me feel stupid. He wanted me to voice my goals, to affirm the path I was choosing for myself. “I'm here because I want to save as many lives as I can, professor. I want to grow as a doctor and become someone my patients can trust.”My voice was shaky at first, but with every word, it grew steadier. My eyes watered, heavy with all the emotions swirling inside of me.“I know I walked away from medicine. I know I threw away opportunities people would have done anything to have. I can't change that anymore.” I swallowed the lump in my throat. “But I can change what I do from today onward.”The table fell silent.“I don't expect you to forgive me immediately. I don't even expect you to believe me.” I forced a bitter smile. “Truth be told, if I were you, I probably wouldn't.”Professor Davison stared at me without saying a word. I sucked in a deep breath.“But if you'll give me another ch

LilyPigs must be flying in the sky somewhere. There was no way, absolutely no way, Chaise just defended me. That too against Rachelle. Shouldn't he be supporting her? Scolding me and telling me to be more reasonable like her?So what the hell just happened?Rachelle had the same shock on her face. I bet she was counting on him taking her side. It felt good to see her look stupid.Refusing to give up, she scooted closer to Chaise, acting like she wanted to talk to him privately, when she in fact made sure to raise her voice so everyone would hear. “You don't have to defend her, Chaise. Spoiling her will not do you any good. It will only push her to take advantage of you,” she said.Spoiling me?I was tempted to correct her right there and then but I controlled myself. I refuse to stoop to her level.“What is wrong with you? Have you forgotten you are in a public space?” Chaise retorted. Rachelle blinked. “This is an international event, not a panel to discuss my marital affairs.” I

ChaiseShe is beautiful. Elegant. Seeing her walk in, in that stunning red dress was a sight I never thought I'd see ever. For a brief second, everything around me disappeared. The conversations. The music. The annoying clinking of champagne glasses. There was only her.She moved with a confidence, one that didn't exist in the last three years of marriage. She was only in plain clothes, looking exhausted and trying way too hard to please me. Her chin was lifted, her shoulders straight despite the nervousness I could read in the way her fingers clutched her purse. It was impossible not to notice her.My gaze drifted over the stoned gown, stopping at the silver embroidery hugging her waist before rising to her face. Her smile slowly faded the second she locked eyes with me. She looked... guarded. When did she become this beautiful? No.She had always been beautiful.I had simply stopped looking. The realization left a bitter taste in my mouth. What was she doing here anyway? This was
