DON'T MAKE A SOUND

Valerie looked at the letter that was sent to her and walked into the hospital. Just as she was approaching the door, she saw the director coming out and stared at him in surprise. "Oh, Director Knorr, he has the power to hire me."

An idea came to her head, and she ran to him, saying, "Good morning, sir. Please excuse me, sir. Can I speak to you?"

"Yes, what can I do for you?" he asked.

"Emmmm... actually, I just graduated from medical school, and I applied for a job in..." Valerie began.

"Oh, please, no, I can't do this right now. I'm in a hurry," the director interrupted, gently pushing her out of the way.

"Please sir," I won't take much of your time," Valerie promised.

He said, "I cannot do this right now, young lady. Are you not listening to me?"

"Please, just listen to me," she insisted "I'm begging you, I won't take much of your time."

"What is your name?" he asked.

"My name is Valerie."

"Valerie, move out of my way or I'll have security throw you out."

Valerie partially went on her knees and said, "Please, sir, just listen to me, sir."

The director looked at the men he was walking with and said, "Please, just a second."

He stared at her as she began, "Sir, I graduated at the top of my class from medical school. I don't have anyone working here, but this hospital has been my dream since I was a child.

I submitted my application letter, aced the interview, and was even told in the room that I performed very well. Everything went smoothly, but when the results arrived today, I didn't get the job. I don't understand, sir. Please, I really need this job. This job is my life."

"Why do you think I have the ability to give you this job?" He asked. "Listen, that is not my area of specialization."

"But, sir, you can recommend me." She persisted.

"Listen, I am not in charge of hiring, okay? Go take it up with them."

"Please, sir, I'm begging you. Just help me and I'll forever be indebted to you."

The director sighed, "Alright, fine. You want to be a doctor? What kind of doctor do you want to be?"

"A surgeon," Valerie replied.

The director nodded, "Basic first aid; what do you do when you see a child who has been run over by a car?"

Valerie explained and the director went ahead to ask her questions and different instances of injury. Valerie explained what to do in each of the situations.

The director finally asked, "How will you administer first aid to someone who has been shot with a gun?"

Valerie explained, how to stop the bleeding, get the person's history if possible, prep him for s surgery to remove the bullet and fix damaged structures, and so on.

After explaining and demonstrating, the director said, "Impressive but I still need to see you in action. What is your name again?"

"Valerie Bush." She replied.

He said, "Hmmm, let me see your resume'. Are you with it?"

"Yes, I came with it, sir." She gave him her resume' as well as the letter of rejection.

The director went through her resume' and said, "This is impressive. You say you didn't get the job?"

"No, I didn't get the job," she replied.

He nodded, "Okay, hold on."

He took out his phone and called someone, "Come out and see me briefly."

Valerie stood there, her heart racing, as she prayed inwardly for a miracle.

After a while, a man came out. She recognized him as one of the men who was present during her interview.

He had merely looked at her before turning his face away on that day, but it seemed the interviewers all answered to him.

He came to the director and said, "Yes, sir."

The director said, "This girl is my candidate. I want her to be given this job."

The man looked at her and said, "Oh, I recognize her. I think I saw her on the day of the interview and exam. Her performance was good."

"Alright, in that case, I want her to be hired." The director handed her resume' to the man and said, "Valerie, I hope you're happy now, and I hope you won't disappoint me."

"No, I won't," she said. "Thank you so much sir, thank you, thank you, thank you," she exclaimed.

The director continued to his car but paused briefly when he noticed a man standing by the gate. He seemed to be injured but the director ignored him and got into his car.

Valerie smiled at the man who had come out and said, "Thank you very much, sir."

He smiled, "Valerie, I liked your performance."

She replied, "But I didn't get the job, which is why I had to go to..."

"Oh, you could have just said you knew the director from the start," the man interrupted. "Alright, we have your email, so I will send a letter of acceptance to you."

Valerie thought inwardly, "Oh yeah, make it more painful for those you reject and send a postman to them."

.

The man continued, "Okay, we are going to proceed with some documentation. There's a document that is missing here; it must have been given to you on the day of the interview."

Valerie exclaimed, "Oh, shoot! I left it at home."

The man assured her, "Okay, you've already gotten the job, though. You can bring it either today or tomorrow. Once we have the document, we will inform you when to start working."

Valerie eagerly responded, "Okay, I'll just get it today so I can start working tomorrow."

The man smiled and asked, "Are you that eager?"

She nodded, "Sir, you have no idea. I've wanted to work here all my life."

He said, "Alright, then go get the document and come back."

Valerie happily ran out to the gate. She took out her phone from her pocket and was about to call her brother's number when someone pointed a gun at her and said, "Don't make a sound."

He forcefully took her phone while she begged, "Please, don't hurt me. I will do whatever you want."

After being forced into Andre's car, he took her into his safe house but Valerie picked up his gun which slipped from his hand and pointed it at him.

However, he looked at her and smiled, "If I die here, you will be trapped in this place for the rest of your life. There's no signal here, and no matter what, you cannot contact anyone on the outside.

Of course, you have enough food to last a few years, but what happens when you run out? I'm the only one who knows the code to this place. No one else can access it. So listen Valerie, if you want to leave here alive, you need to save my life. So, what is it going to be?"
